  1. Where's the shocking level of vitriol ???? Agreed some of the posts have highlighted elements of student behaviour that probably go slightly beyond youthful exhuberance but on the whole I think most people recognise the positive impact students have on the economic and cultural life of the city. For me...Freshers always seems to be a great time of year.........long may it continue..! p.s. - Not sure that your assertion that it is students who are responsible for the increase in Sheffield's population is actually correct............I suspect that there are likely to be a number of factors at play..........immigration being the most obvious one as is the fact that we have an ageing population....
  2. Many theories abound.....most think it is at the behest of the Police...apparently....there are manpower concerns with it clashing with the huge SY derby between donny and the dingles....Honest....you couldn't make it up.... I keep telling myself we don't live in a Police state....just yet...
  3. I remember Dad telling me and my 2 brothers that we couldn't go to the Liverpool game coz there was likely to be crowd trouble...not only was there no trouble but missed Gary Hamson's 35 yard screamer that beat the all-conquering LFC...........bizarrely...Dad did let us go to the Leeds game....now at that match there WAS trouble....I remember being on the 27 bus outside the train station when there looked to be a 1,000 aside fight going off and Leeds fans tried to overturn our bus.....they also managed to smash all the windows on the top deck...cue chilly journey back to Dyke Vale..... Happy days......
  4. Sabella.........jeez that brings back memories........me and my 2 brothers used to spend all Friday night making bags and bags of ticker tape to throw round the old kids pen on the kop on match day..!! Agree that he was FAR too good for the players we had and the league we were in at the time.............. As an aside - Did anyone elese go the match against River Plate at the 'Lane?? - If I remember rightly - River had about 7 members of the '78 World Cup winning team in their squad ! Sabella and Edwards were my boy-hood heroes...........!! UTB
  5. I have moments when I miss one particular person so much it feels like I can't breathe......
  6. Brilliant Memories.......Skeggy with the Woodhouse West End Club...! Shame there are very few WMC's left these days..........
  7. I can honestly say those were great days with some VERY understanding teachers......I sometimes wonder how they coped...(probably with industrial quantities of alcohol, ciggies and temazepan) I can still remember loads of their names... Mr Swift (Swifty) Mr & Mrs Brown Mr Gelder & Mr Butler Neal Lovell Miss Shimmin Miss Townsend St John & Tingle Kita & Paulson Sando Debes Bob Parsonage (RIP) Ann Rigby (RIP) I also took a walk down the Shirebrook Valley today past where I used to walk to school and where I spent an awful lot of my youth......Can't believe how much it has all changed....then again....it is about 25 years since I last went there !!!
  8. Yeah with the names you have mentioned - yours must have been the year below ours...
  9. If you hung around with the idiots then you will have bumped into me...by the way....Weren't Shep, Maddock and John Garrett in CS ?!
  10. Damn this freekin keyboard! Sharon...if you were in my year....you must remember Shep, Pat Maddock, Pex, Connors and the like...... !!! Happy Dayz Indeed
  11. My form was 2FS (FS for "Full Stop") - Summed our lot up really - I always thought most of em in our class were an afterthought (if you know what I mean) !! If
  12. Wow ! Reading these post has the memories flooding back....I went to City from 1980 - 1985 - the last 2 years in the 6th form. RIP - Bob Parsonage - He was my old form tutor......A truly nice bloke....Taught German when he wasn't keeping an eye on us trying to nick his fags ! RIP Anne Rigby.....I kept in touch with her long after she left City and moved to Scotland...a truly sad loss.......a great person and friend
  13. LOL! Aqua-Aerobics is also being considered I believe ......
