You'll never know whether or not that's true though will you?  Children and grandchildren can be a pain at times but to know and care for someone far more than you care for yourself is an incredible gift.

Nah, not for me at all. This world isn't a nice place and it will only get worse. I also prefer to work less hours and travel.

Does anyone know if they are still open on sharow vale road!

I’ve noticed a new place on ecelsfield road with similar name

I might be wrong, but I think they now only do takeaways.

If it costs him £2 in petrol there and back to the rank and £1 overhead costs (maintenance, insurance etc) plus 10% VAT that's £3.30. £7-£3.30 = £3.70 profit. That's not bad for 10 minutes' work. It's the equivalent of £22.20 per hour, almost double minimum wage.

When you're self employed £22.20 per hour isn't enough, even if you got a guaranteed 8 hours at that rate. You've got to cover sickness, van, fuel, holidays, pension, tools, clothes, accountants etc. I know cleaners who charge more than that... and rightly so. As a tradesman,  I'd look at minimum of £250/day and ideally £300-£400 / day. The minimum wage shouldn't be used as a barometer for good pay... it isn't.  It's an absolute minimum and most people will need support from the state if they are living on that sort of money.

I can’t see it revitalising the city centre, or who it’s potential clients will be, but having said that I wish it well. 🤙

I think it looks tremendous.  I'm gonna book a night in a room overlooking Peace Gardens and have a weekend pretending to be a tourist in Sheffield.

The Museum Public House & Restaurant is frequently packed and tables are in high demand. Ditto for The Penny Black, another Greene King establishment.

IMO The Museum is bloody awful... dreadful drink options. Miserable staff.  I'll never go again. Greene King is a terrible brewery run by accountants who no idea about decent beers.

We don't want residential buildings in the city centre. We want leisure venues, retail outlets, bars & restaurants.

Maybe you don't. But I like an appropriate, strategic balance of residential, commercial and industrial properties within the city centre... People living in the centre contribute towards a dynamic and lively city, otherwise we just have a souless downtown USA type places that's are quiet after 9pm.

    Real ale.
    No intrusive loud music.

No TV screens for sport, news or anything for that matter.

    No kids indoor playground.

Almost nailed it for me. Just delete the last 2 words and it's perfect.

I like a changing selection of cask and keg of different styles and strengths.

The Manor and Arundel clubs on City road both do well ,No middle classes though  ,   Just down to Earth working class people .

I had a pint of Sam Smith's bitter in Arundel about a year ago. Cheap as hell, but absolutely chuffin' awful. Club seemed friendly enough,  all blokes though, no ladies.

  9. My favourite pubs are The Union Hotel, Gareth and Sarah and all the staff doing a cracking job. No kids either.

The Itchy Pigs, both have a tremendous, ever changing selection of different beers, both cask and keg.

The Rising Sun at Fulwood, great choice of beers from Abbeydale Brewery and others.

Sheaf View also good, Fat Cat, Kelham Island Tav. Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow.

I like pubs where the staff remember your name and what your preferences are for a booze. Not keen on boozing in town although the Head of Steam is OK for pre theatre drinks.  Fagans, The Grapes and Dog and Partridge good for Guinness.

I've always been told the Hen and Chickens was a bit rough but I've never been in so can't really comment. Not even sure it's still open.

I tried Manzil for a takeaway recently and it was to be honest very good, although it could have done with a bit more heat for me. The guy in there said the chefs were from the Mangla so they should know what they are doing.

Perhaps a bit pricey for a takeaway but then my favourite Kashmiri Aroma is too.

Chefs from the Mangla? Really? I wonder if it was the chefs from before it changed hands or after? It was never anything like as good after the new owners took over.

I have heard a rumour that Manzil got a new chef(s), maybe this sort of  backs it up.  If we've got the old Mangla style food on Eccy Road then I'd be a happy man.  The old Mangla snap was quite spicy so from what trin said in previous comment maybe they've changed their old recipes.

I've just done nearly 4 weeks backpacking in India so I'll be giving curries a swerve for a while in the UK.

about time  they got back on the streets on foot as well as car

Think they'll struggle to put bobbies out on foot due to lack of resources and funding cuts. They can be more efficient in a car... although I agree not much good if they're all parked up at the station.
