  1. Are there any car boots within 20 miles in January at all? Is the first one Pedlars in Feb? Got loads of stuff to get rid of after Christmas.
  2. Was there an accident around there tonight? I heard you couldn't get onto Leppings Lane from either direction and Penistone Road was closed past the Wednesday ground.
  3. No right turn onto Leppings Lane tonight. Wonder if the lights aren't set up right. If they are right, thats dodgy. I guess getting rid of the left turn up Herries Road means you can have a safe pedestrian and cycle crossing there. Annoying for people coming out of the football car park or who missed the earlier turn onto Herries Road South but I can't imagine thats a huge amount of traffic.
  4. I go past this at least once every day by bus, bike, shanks' pony and canalboat (my wallowy, diesel-glugging old car). Its been a faff for ages. The lights for A61 through-traffic do seem to take an age at the moment but maybe they will tinker with the timings. Traffic was backed up to Kilner Way at 8.15am this morning, as it was with the roundabout, but it didn't actually seem to take longer to get through to the Wednesday ground. You just sit there for ages, then all go at once. I'd love to see actual timings and the modelling for this. Maybe sitting at idle and then going through means less emissions than loads of stop-start creeping as well. It might not be better for going straight through, but maybe its better for going across from Leppings to Herries Road or vice-versa. We will see if its better for pedestrians and cyclists when its done. Damned whatever you do in planning and highway design though.
  5. Thanks for the info. Never heard of the Trust but nice work on getting funding to fix up the Non-conformist chapel (the one with neo-classical columns). I see the Anglican chapel (one with big spire) had a planning application in ten years ago to convert it to four apartments, ref 04/00109/UL, but this was withdrawn. Despite its listed status, I guess the fact it is privately owned means we have no right to know what they're doing.
  6. Anglican Chapel in Sheffield General Cemetery on Cemetery Road seems to be getting a new roof and stuff. Anyone know more detail, such as who owns it and what they might be planning on doing with it? Looks good anyway Any info appreciated
  7. Yep, looks like them to me. http://www.barr.co.uk http://www.barr-construction.co.uk Maybe they're also related to the company that makes Irn-Bru from girders http://www.agbarr.co.uk ---------- Post added 21-04-2014 at 16:41 ---------- Emailed Sainsburys from their website and just got a response: 'Our new store in Clay Wheels Lane, Sheffield will be opening sometime in the autumn of 2014. The precise date has yet to be finalised.'
  8. Finally doing groundworks and stuff. Seems to be a construction company called Barr...
  9. I was totally wrong - there is going to be another Iceland on Bradfield Road. See this thread: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1191236&page=2 Also, I've heard the underground bit of the old Mecca bingo is going to be a CrossFit gym
  10. Sainsbury's submitted another planning application 13/02378/NMA for minor changes to the design including raising the ground level a metre but lowering the roof by the same amount, amending the car park layout and some pedestrian ramp a bit. This was approved 23/10/13.
  11. Hmm, yeah maybe two Iceland's and two Home Bargains close by. I heard something about Holland and Barratt too but do they do big shops that you drive to? A cheap clothes shop seems ideal. The underground car park here also has permission to be converted for leisure use 0630 and 2300 hours on Mondays to Fridays and between 0630 and 2000 hours on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Wonder if that will be some kind of kids play centre or something. Can't imagine it being bingo and can't open late enough for a casino. Any ideas?
  12. Sainsbury's is planning to build a big store near Lepping's Lane roundabout so I don't think M&S would want to a food place to compete. I wonder if the new buildings will end up being rented by places selling home stuff or renting out power tools or something.
  13. Iceland is going into the old Mecca Bingo in between Langsett and Penistone Road. They've put signs up outside. The Iceland logo was used for a visualisation on the Bradfield Road planning application but the application was nothing to do with them.
  14. Sainsbury's still appear to be faffing about. I've had email response from the case planner at Sheffield Council, the case planner at Sainsbury's planning agent and some annoyingly chirpy PR-type from Sainbury's. My understanding is that the Sheffield Council planners said 'Yeah, you can build it but the onus is one you to prove its gonna be ok'. Sainbury's have managed to get permission to go ahead without complying with condition on archaeology and drainage, but still need to do show they have fully investigated and considered the state of the site, flooding, boiler emissions etc. They've also asked if they can change the building design a bit but not hugely. I wonder why they're taking so long. Maybe this is just something for them to have in the pipeline or maybe it is genuinely a tricky one.
  15. In case anyone's still interested, the outline application for 69 houses did get passed. However, to get full planning permission, the Council and the developer need to agree on a couple of conditions including how much 'affordable' housing will be given to non-profit housing associations on the cheap (Councils don't do much housing themselves anymore). The developer's surveyors said the scheme wasn't financially viable with any affordable housing, but the Council's (and HMRC's, amongst others) surveyor said it was. It'll probably go to an inquiry as the developer and Council don't seem to be on good terms. Check back here in 2017 to see if anything's changed.
