That's another name I can remember my mum talking about...Mrs Higgins !! My mum has passed away now, but I can remember her telling me about all the neighbours sitting in each others houses. Helping each other when their babies were due to be born....even helping to lay the deceased out !! I think my mum was the 16th child in her family...wow!! In a two up two down house...How did they manage?? cal.

Hi, Thank you, but I don't think it was Morfitt...I now think it may have been Hicks or Higgingbottom. On that side of the road was also Mr and Mrs Cook, Mrs Wikeley. and Mr and Mrs Turner. My gramdma and grandad were called Farrand, and lived at No. 43. Next door to them was Mr and Mrs Liversidge. Regards .. Cal.

Hi I worked there in 1959, A bit before your time. My dad ( Arnold Crookes ) worked there in the polishing shop, until the 70's I worked on a little press; stamping the name on nailfiles. I think the piecework rate was 7d a gross. I remember getting quite good wages for that time. Cal

When I was a teenager, I used to borrow my mum's Cream Puff by Max Factor, and her perfume was alway's Goya's Black Rose frozen push up stick.

Hi, My parents moved into a prefab just after the war. It was on Errington Avenue, at Arbourthorne. Ater living in rented rooms, they said it was a wonderful little house. All mod cons. Even a fridge, and their very own garden. I don't remember it being cold at all. It had a solid fuel burner, that heated the bathroom up. I have still got the cutting from The Star newspaper that mentions how much all the housewives loved them.(My mum kept it because she was mentioned !) Unfortunatly the Sheffield Gales flattened the one that we lived in, in 1962. Cal.

I remember eating the very first fish fingers that came on the market. They were far better than the ones we get today. Also getting a television in 1953, and it was all ready for ITV to be tuned in. Later on getting a hair drier for Xmas, and not having to stay in until my hair dried naturally.

I think Buck Croft and Talbot Rd were the same place. It's called Tilford Rd now.
