Coal did not and has not run out, there is hundreds of millions of tons left under britain. -
What is the big attraction to it?,Grown men singing like children?. It also amazes me that in wharncliffe side the vast majority of people who attend the carols in the wharncliffe arms dont use the pub for the rest of the year but are the first ones to start moaning if it shuts like it has done frequently in the past.Maybe support the pub by using it more than 4 times a year:huh:

Thanks for the info,im well aware of the rememberance service on the nearest sunday to the 22nd of february,i started a thread on here a few years ago regarding this,in my opinion the memorial is not very fitting bearing in mind its where 10 people lost their lives,a half ton chunk of of stone with a tiny brass plaque on it,no story to let visitors to the park know why its there, maybe its just me who is too respectful.

There is also a place within sheffield which is not a war grave as such but it is the place where 10 young men met their end, Endcliffe park is where the B17 american bomber crashed in 1944.They should be honoured a damn sight more than the present on site memorial in my very humble opinion.

Bradfield church has a few R.A.F mens graves in it.One belongs to a lad called victor willis who was a bomb aimer on a 9 squadron lancaster bomber returning to R.A.F bardney in lincolnshire after a mission to germany which crashed in the vicinity of bardney. He was 22 years old,me and my lad go up when we can to place some flowers on his grave.

Needs some info on Oughtibridge please
steelman79 replied to dee1's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Oughtibridge is a lovely area and a very friendly place to live. Although it hasnt got any shops where you can do your weekly shopping the village shop sells most everyday items, theres a post office, doctors surgery, italian restaurant and several pubs.It also has a decent bus service to connect to stocksbridge or hillsborough for bigger shops. I dont think your parents will go far wrong by moving to oughtibridge. -
Even if it is true that a tornado crashed in sheffield that night in 1997 the bits you have discovered almost certainly are not from it,there was certainly something going on that night (sea king search helicopters, chinook helicopters police, fire brigade) and indeed low flying aircraft but all this activity was centred around the moors around here (wharncliffe side/stocksbridge) and howden NOT grenoside woods.

And a bit of knowing what you are talking about would not go amiss either.
