  1. Went to Tenerife last year Friday to Tuesday, 9 of us and it was a fantastic place for a stag do. We dressed up the guy who was getting married as something different every day firstly a a woman, then as a porn star (don't ask) but best as a smurf - white shorts, white wellies, a santa hat (painted white) and then painted him blue. Awesome.
  2. I know there were a couple who showed the 3pm matches live but Sky clamped down on them pretty hard I think. Its a pity because I loved it when we went to Tenerife last year and all the matches were on, and nearly all pirated.
  3. I'm off the same time as hyabeing, 2 weeks in Dominican Republic can't wait. Went to Tenerife January last year for 4 days. Nightlife is excellent, we ended up in Linekers Bar most nights. Only trouble is the touts, they pester the life out of you when you are walking past bars at night.
  4. Now also stopped at the southern outpost of Barlborough :-(( Having fun watching the cars skid all over the place on the (ungritted) road on our industrial estate. Trouble is I'll be heading down there in an hour or so? What's the traffic like in Sheffield? Any news?
  5. I think the biggest problem is the policy of sending 50% of all school leavers to University. This obviously leads to a huge increase in funding requirement so the big discussion about how this should be met....general taxation, top up fees - fixed or variable? But surely it cannot be that 50% of the school leavers now are academically capable of achieving degree status. All that is happening is that degrees are being devalued and a generation of students are leaving education so indebted that it will be years before this debt can ever be paid off. I think the answer is to limit the numbers of university places to, say, 15 to 20% of school leavers who then could be more easily funded through general taxation. The limit should be on acadmic ability not ability to pay.
  6. We have a pretty good firewall here at work and I have still had about 10 emails with (probably) virus attachments get through to me today. Regular email seems to be really slow today, maybe the virus is just slowing everything down.
  7. Sorry to buck the trend but got through to the council tax people within about 30 seconds when I needed to call a couple of weeks ago. Guess I got lucky. But when I was trying to sort out my mortgage with Woolwich it was a nightmare the longest I had to wait was 23 mins I would say average about 15. They are definately the worst i have ever dealt with.
  8. Please could you tell me where this is? Thanx Marco at Milanos is on Archer Road, just off Abbydale road going past the Millhouses pub heading out of Sheffield.
  9. We just bought a house in November. Standard 3 bed semi in decent area of Sheffield. We had to pay 15% over the asking price and we did not have the highest bid but becasue we were first time buyers then they chose us. Over 40 people viewed the house and there were 5 left in at the final bidding stage. We looked at several other houses and the story was always the same. I think the reason is because there is limited new housing coming onto the market, the demographics are leading to more housing required and there are a large number of people wanting to buy but cannot afford to. As soon as prices slow down it brings more potential buyers to the market so prices bounce back up again. However as soon as interest rates rise byond a certain point then affordability becomes the issue for the people renting but wanting to buy.
  10. My girlfriend and I went to Marco at Milano's on Saturday night and I have to say it was fantastic. The service was excellent, just the right pace. Although the menu was limited if like me you are not a seafood fan the food was brilliant. And didn't break the bank. Rates as best meal I've had if Sheffield. Anybody else have best (or worst) meals?
  11. My brother lives in Kirklees and they have several small wheely bins of different colours for different types of waste. Paper/plastic/metal/glass are all seperated and recycled and one is for "general waste". I think this is a great idea. He only needs the "general waste" bin putting out every 3 or 4 weeks. I am sure there would be some practical difficulties is some places due to space etc. but in principle I think its an excellent idea. Existing land fills won't last forever and nobody wants a new one next door.
  12. One thing the Cockeyed reported established was that 97% of the "work from home" fliers posted in Sacramento were put up by independent Herbalife distributors. Has anyone ever tried the numbers on the fliers posted around Sheffield? Do these all lead (eventually) to Herbalife I wonder?
  13. I looked at the Herbalife website and the Cockeyed report links and read both with an open mind. I have to say the cockeyed report is a lot more convincing, as for it being satire.....is that comment for real??
  14. Hi. One of the most interesting threads i've seen around. Question for Brian per your post: p.s. regarding the products - they're safe, they're naturally derived and they work a treat When you say they work a treat, what do they do? I tried the link but couldn't see any clear inforamtion, can you summarise?
  15. Hi. I work in nearby Barlborough and drive through Renishaw each day. On the up side the new housing developments, close access to the motorway and countryside, lower but rising housing costs. Downside is it is probably just a bit too far out to be really part of Sheffield. Poor public transport means a car journey for everything. On balance i would say a good place to live so long as you don't want to go pubbing and clubbing in Sheffield every weekend.
