  1. No, further down, almost on Hillsboro Park tram stop. I think they may do take away too.
  2. S8's a funny area isn't it? I lived in Greenhill for some years, before marriage breakdown, where it was all detached, or "link detached" (love that phrase, aka 'my neighbour's built an extension so close that the cat can't get down the side of the house'), pensioners and/or new money. The Holy Grail was (still is, I guess) membership of Abbeydale Golf Club. 2 or 3 cars per house. But then just over the hill you have LE. I think the catalyst is the pubs - the Whites Swan and Hart. Used to find those who'd been barred from the Mower on LE. And the Magpie, back in the day.
  3. The tram replacement bus period in S6 was great! Plenty of buses, always got a seat, fast service, quiet journey, no talking and nice drop-off point near Cathedral. Now we're back to normal - Hillsboro tram stop like Piccadilly Circus, crowded trams, constant recorded announcements, conductors yelling about tickets and passes, total lack of etiquette about letting people off the tram....
  4. TS Eliot (I think) said that "April is the cruellest month". Think it's certainly May, this year.
  5. What the bloody hell is wrong with CASH? In that time, you could have gone to one of many nearby cash points and got some NOTES! It is like these bloody hipsters in Wetherspoons, each paying for their own pint of shandy by card.
  6. Let's go further - played in Europe, slaughtered Spora, unfairly ko'd by Kaiserslauten.
  7. The Lancaster. I well remember making the Airfix model. Does anyone do that any more? The gun turrets were always tricky to fit and operate. And no fun in real life. As a British Legion member, I'm conscious of commemorating the loss of life at this time.....The public ceremonies are right and proper.
  8. They are called Aye Carumba (I think) and might be based at Nether Green. They deliver bread to my corner shop in S6 and it's fantastic. Real good stuff.
  9. What's he hanging on to, is it the wipers? I suppose it's about the only blind spot for the tram crew, or someone could have switched them on
  10. Everyone wobbles about now. Apart from Chelski. And Bristol City. And Floyd Mayweather.
  11. No, and look at that Bournemouth! Johnny come latelys in the Championship, no tradition, small ground with no capacity, can't see them....OOPS!
  12. Anyone remember Dean Reynolds? He's been in the Bankers quite a bit during the tournament......
  13. Totally agree with this - went in early doors last week; good beers (Exit 33 and Raw) and a warm welcome. But why those massive tables and really uncomfortable seating?
  14. There was still a strong police presence in Hills yesterday morning: car and big van both parked in Hillsboro Road about 09:30; van driving around and around Holme Lane/Middlewood/Taplin later; police CSI van also on Langsett. So if they've caught him.....? ---------- Post added 18-04-2015 at 11:49 ---------- What point are you making, exactly? ---------- Post added 18-04-2015 at 11:53 ---------- A successor to Albert Pierrepoint?
  15. We may be of the same generation. My uncle and other family members served in WW2. Lots more in WW1. I can see where you're coming from. And I apologise for the "Dr Google" post, which was patronising.
  16. Alchemist, I do appreciate your intervention! mj does have decided views, and I respect that. I think I did rather object to the term "tosspot", but in the great scheme of things, it's neither here nor there. I have to conclude that, unlike politics, the monarchy won't allow any meeting of minds. One is either for or against. My ex-partner's cousin subscribed to the view of the RF as " a bunch of Germans, living rent-free in central London". Clearly, we didn't agree. We still enjoyed each other's company. So I hope that we can generate more light than heat...
  17. Wow, thanks for your interest LOL. I must defer to the academic weight of Dr Google - however, not on my own position. I don't grovel or touch forelock to anyone who has not been validated by the Internet. Err....that is everyone in your frame, isn't it?
  18. Mmmm, let's look at how "real democracies" might have fared during the unbroken succession of our monarchy. France? Thousands executed during the terror; guillotines working overtime; nutcase "Worship of Reason" regime. Germany? Adolf. He loved his old mum - but otherwise.....Defence rests.
  19. A fuss about nothing. At Mansfield, we've "entertained" the Codheads in the Conference a few times, with no more than the predicted bovver. They probably got a bit excited at having free time in a big city, as suggested earlier. Alfreton wouldn't offer much scope (or resistance).
  20. Hope it will be a "real ale pub" rather than a "pub that serves real ale". This is a good distinction, made in (I think) North Notts CAMRA magazine, in a survey of Worksop pubs, between places where the ale is 1st and food 2nd, and vice versa. The Broadfield is an example of vice versa. Good luck if you just wander in there, innocently wanting a pint!
  21. Probably because I never go to Meadowhell unless I can help it. I have been once in last 12 months, to buy my daughter a Blott pencil case from the only Blott shop in Sheffield area.
  22. But who can predict the vagaries of football? Or the club/manager "chemistry"? I'm sure Stockport County fans would have a different view of Jones, who guided to national Cup semi finals, a club which has now dropped into regional fooball and is presumably envying the progress of North Ferriby United to a Trophy win. At Mansfield Town, we have the youngest League manager. A great ex player for us; but we can't defend, nor can we score goals. A bit of a problem, going into Easter not far off the trap door.
