  1. I hope you never find yourself on the streets...it's always closer than you think. ---------- Post added 17-10-2017 at 14:13 ---------- The black - Afro Caribb? guy with grey hair who attempts the friendly handshake.....he's back. seen on 76 bus and tram. His folly is that he doesn't realise that people have memories. ---------- Post added 17-10-2017 at 17:09 ---------- Do you not read the news? Prisons are full of serious offfenders; don't think shoplifters are facing porridge these days!!
  2. Sounds like fake news. But, even if not, if there is a religious aspect to the control of body hair, and that religious aspect may be linked to extremist sympathies, then I'd consider it perfectly in order to ask those questions.
  3. Dutch, I am re-reading this remarkable work. A marvellous chapter in which Owen explains capitalism - the "Great Money Trick" - to his fellow workers. Should be required reading in schools.
  4. The best practice is to have a strong, straight-sided, heavy-based HALF pint glass...as at Barrow Hill. Very few if any weak points, unlike the goblets. One of the BH glasses fell out of a high kitchen cupboard recently and just bounced!
  5. I hope there will be proper, no-nonsense half pint glasses this year (as at, e.g., Barrow Hill...a good strong festival glass). Sheffield for the last couple of years has provided thin goblet-type things which just isn't what many of us look for at a traditional fest...
  6. Well, there's a day out for you!! I'm sure the novelty will wear off. And it's handy for Carbrook tram stop. If you can get a sofa onto the tram.
  7. think it would to do a survey based on budget: e.g., if you can afford £2.50 - £3.00 per pint, where do you go? And so on.
  8. £4.25?! Tha's paying hipster prices Jemmo. We could have a session in Wetherspoons for that, and still have change for a kebab..... ---------- Post added 07-10-2017 at 08:57 ---------- They travel, the bearded ones....you're never far from one:o
  9. is this Guzzle? Not a propitious name!! Presumably populated by overpaid hipsters.....
  10. These are finally carrying passengers, so was interested to make my first journey last night. Rubbish! Hard seats, totally cretinous design, poor use of space, even narrower gangways ( well- built conductors will find it even harder to avoid whacking commuters around the ears with their various satchels and machines l )
  11. If they provide porters to load flat-pack furniture onto the tram (and off at the other end) then I might consider it. Their teddy bears are good (my daughter has one 12 years old, still loved) hot dogs too...
  12. From the tram on Thursday night, it looked like the fall of Babylon on West Street. Some sort of regional drinking competition had been advertised. Bless 'em! We'd have done the same in my day, but without advertising or 'themes'!
  13. there are big issue sellers round every corner it seems; orchard square, town hall, chapel walk, outside costa on division street, near showroom cinema, central library/tudor square...and not just being there, shouting at and 'door-stepping' passers-by. If you refuse nicely, they have clearly been trained up to say "have a nice day" in attempt to give you a guilt trip.
  14. Isn't it amazing how the mention of a name brings back a whole memory?! I can't remember the opposition; but I remember Watson going three or four paces before plummeting to the deck!
  15. We could go on for days about this. How about Nigel Pearson "Captain...Leader...Legend" We have to give first place to the only Owls captain to lift serious silverware in modern times.
  16. Viv Anderson. Tony Adams (article in "Times" today) puts him alongside the greats. Mind you, he also tells how they targeted Hirsty in 1992. ---------- Post added 03-06-2017 at 12:48 ---------- I remember the penalty he took at the Kop end - was it for Oldham? No celebration at all, total class. A far cry from the one he missed against Oxford in the promotion year....loads of abuse, didn't we lose three in a week and Palmer sent off at Pompey? Please confirm, as I now need my pills...
  17. You have to worry about fans draining their meagre resources on inter-city strife. Don't think it will be a problem for Huddersfield next year. In Wilder and Carlos, the city clubs have potentially the best managers in a generation. Both of us going up is not unrealistic.
  18. yeah I have seen a guy like this in Hillsborough, maroon robe looking like somebody's cast-off curtains. When I was growing up in a mining town in the 1960s, priests dressed in traditional Anglican / Catholic wear to go parish visiting. But we knew who they were, despite the outfit. Give him a "God Bless" and pass by.
  19. It becomes all about money...Owls could have been the next Hull City - up...down...&c. And look at their managerial record. The model is probably Bournemouth. Stability (I nearly said "Strong and stable") and a mid-term strategy.
  20. Rundle Road in S7...it contains the latter day Bates Motel ---------- Post added 24-05-2017 at 21:03 ---------- A kinder end than being dumped minus mattress!
  21. Were Owls not too defensive in the first leg? Not one shot on target? He was clearly relying on home form to take them through...but I think Wagner would have presented to his team "here is a negative side, we can press and press and they will make a mistake".
  22. I would love Muslims to knock on my door. We need to know more about how faith influences life. The Muslims I work with observe Ramadan strictly; the Christians observe Lent for a couple of days and then...off the wagon (like me).
  23. Glad to report I am back at work, looking less like Anthony Joshua's sparring partner and still grateful to the good people who looked out for me. Still have a bit of a shudder every time I go though Shalesmoor.
  24. The area where Abbeydale Road merges into Nether Edge is nice, and I agree about Bragazzi's - but if you like great coffee you will know that anyway! I lived on Woodstock, Empire and Sheldon back in the day and enjoyed it. Greenhill and Bradway is all new money or pensioners with mortgages paid off and time to play golf or use their bus passes to get to the polling station and vote Leave
