  1. Happens very often on Abbeydale road, 75, 76, 97 & 98, often get buses showing as "Due" that never arrive, ones that were supposed to be running and just get cancelled and disappear off the screens and ones that go past the stop(s) earlier than they were meant to. Think I've had one day in 4 months of travelling to and from Abbeydale road when the buses have actually run as they were supposed to :s
  2. IMO Saying the music is garbage is making a wild assumption that no-one enjoys it. You may think it's garbage and thats fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but just because you think it's garbage not everyone else will. I agree it's normally quiet until around midnight, but as you pointed out that's pretty much the same with all the gay venues in Sheffield. As with a lot of venues it has peaks and troughs, but I've always enjoyed a night at Lions. I think Lions deserves credit for what they have managed to achieve. I'll freely admit, there is room for improvement and a few issues that need looking at, but on the whole I think they are doing all they can to make the best of Lions. James - Nice to see that you're still the same OLD arrogant, bitter, nasty queen you always have been.
  3. I definately agree and think it's important to have exclusive gay venues, myself, sometimes you just wanna be surrounded by other LGBT people. I acknowledge as well that some LGBT people perhaps will never feel confident enough to visit a straight venue. I just feel it's important to have mixed venues such as Lions, Affinity & Sanctuary (for the moment) where LGBT and straight people happily mix and enjoy themselves. If we avoid straight people, we are never going to find acceptance and straight people are never going to come to realise that we are just people like them, out for a good night
  4. Blimey to say some people make comments about Dempseys playing the same song several times a night, some people just never change their own record do they.....Yawn! I do understand and agree with the idea that sometimes some LGBT people will only feel comfortable in the company of other LGBT people, and I think it will always be important that there are venues that provide a safe and "exclusive" (as much as possible) LGBT crowd. I do even more so though, feel it's of greater importance to have venues where LGBT and straight people can mix, have a great time/drink/dance etc......One of the biggest problems that the LGBT community face is those who now segregate themselves when there is no longer any need to. When I think about back-in-the-day of Gatecrasher's glory days, sexuality was never even really thought about, we all went because we loved the music and the experience that was Gatecrasher and it didn't matter what anyone was. I actually think we have now taken steps backwards, segregation between straights and LGBT is creeping back in and IMO it's a lot of LGBT people who are instigating it. With regards to getting beaten up/caught up in trouble, I can't say I have ever been beaten up in nearly 15 years of going out in Sheffield (been caught with a few stray punches), but my attitude doesn't prompt people to want to give me a slap. I will say I've just as much trouble kick off in Dempseys as I have in most West/Division Street venues, the amount of times I've seen fights break out/ been caught by stray punches in there :s With any venue, it's always about personal choice, YOU either like somewhere or you don't, so you decide if you wish to visit a venue or not. E.g. I personally don't like Club Xes, Dempseys, can't stand Players, hate Embrace!! However I didn't think right because I don't like these places, I have to make sure everyone knows that I don't like them and what I think is wrong with all these places, I must make sure everyone knows every little thing I think is wrong with them and I must make it my mission to make people think the same as me and deter them from going........WHY!? To what end? God if you carry on waffling like that, trying to get everyone to listen to how bad you think somewhere is, then you just become one of those annoying bores who bugs people with their thoughts and opinions in a desperate attempt to try and get you to agree with them. Easiest thing to do is listen to no-one, as all you are getting is their own personal view, visit a venue, try it out and decide for yourself.
  5. Somebody's had a bit too much Christmas Sherry I think
  6. Think I'd much rather go for the H20 network rather than this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8139015.stm
  7. I don't think Religion should be banned in any way, I think people should be free to follow/believe in all that if they want to. I think what really should happen is that Religion plays no part in education, politics or anything that has any influence/power/control over the general population. If someone chooses to seek out religion and be a part of it then I think that's fine, but I don't think any part of religion should be thrust upon us all or have any involvement in our lives unless we want it too.
  8. Maybe 'God' was bored and asked Grahame if he fancied a couple at this little place he had found the other day!? *Visual of Grahame sat in Dempseys, on his own talking to himself, drinking a white wine spritzer and looking horrified at the men 'hugging' each other*
  9. Of course he has a right to believe and so do you, but do you not find Grahame's posts condecending, patronising and arrogant in his pursuit of refusing to accept that everyone doesn't think and feel like he does!? When he posts things such as 'I'm tuned into Almighty God thank you. I don't need anything else, least of all a corrupt world.', so basically because anyone who thinks and believes things different to him is corrupt. Not exactly a Christian attitude is it!? Who is he to judge anyone as being corrupt. How's it go 'Judge not lest ye be judged.'? The bible is interesting, like many other books, but I have only ever been able to see it as fictional, ok I'll admit there are a number of historical accuracies and real events, but in many works of fiction this is common. There are parts that make me think too, but factual books e.g. The Mind: A User's Guide, Spirituality and Psychiatry stimulate my mind in a far greater way. Definitely it's going to be a difficult task to apply the writings of the bible to life today due to the time, but also the fact that we know that the bible today is nothing like the original due to translation, distortion over time we know it to have changed a great deal from how it first started, like any book, parts get re-written, changed, amended. If the bible was truely the word of god that was meant for all mankind to see, would god not have made sure the translaters did the job right, rather than making mistakes that have meant the direction/meaning/message of passages becomes something diferent!? Hmmm, I suppose if one needs help to get on in life, be accountable for themselves, aware of our surroundings, people etc etc etc. I can see why the bible may perhaps help those who are unable to do it for themselves. I can understand that some people may need something like the bible to get through life. I could go on to reference research and findings of studies of people who follow the bible and religion, but I think it would appear condecending, insulting and patronising, which I am trying to refrain from. Myself I've never needed anyone or anything to tell me how to get on in life, I feel totally accountable for my own existence and what I do with it, I am aware of my surroundings, nature, environment and my fellow man. I've spent time overseas as volunteer helping my fellow man, I've commited many years to helping those less fortunate than myself and protecting and fighting for nature, our planet and our animal brothers as well, I see the entire planet as a collective family, no exceptions. None of this though I gained from the bible or any religion, this is my conviction and belief alone, nothing that anyone has had to tell me or that I've gotten from some book. Maybe you should have said that some of us struggle on a daily basis. I know many people who do, and I know many who are unable to beat that struggle without some external guidance, inspiration, instruction. If the bible gives those people whatever it is they need, as they can't do whatever is needed so they are no longer struggling, then I can see why some people may need the bible. I can't say I have ever struggled a day in my life, no matter what has been thrown at me (and there has been some big one's over the years), I have never struggled with any of it, I have always had the strong conviction that I am the only person that can shape my life and so I need nothing else but myself. For that reason I never struggle as I am always available, I don't have to trying and find some guidance to help me through anything, I don't have to pray to something that I am not really aware of in the hope that things will get better, I simply decide what I need to do in any given situation and take action, no struggle in that at all. I totally agree, many people are selfish and to be honest many religious people are selfish. I donate every month to a number of charities that feed the hungry and I have so many times been distributing food to those in need around the world, it is totally about compassion. I am fortunate enough to be able to give compassion and support to those who need it at their most desperate time, a current example, although can be destressing at times is to help homosexual prostitutes, who are suffering the terminal effects of diseases they have contracted. They have not had the best of lives and now at young ages, they are facing death and I help in every way I can to mentally prepare for the symptoms to come of their illness(es) and death. I would be interested in Grahame's and many other religious persons 'compassion' for these men and boys!? I trained as a Chef, so sorry, not much ends up in the bin I know what you mean though. I do agree that many many people could do with allowing their conscience to be pricked, a lot of religious people could do with it. I don't need anything to give me an insight to do that though, least of all the bible. In my experience the most judgemental, unhelpful, cold, uncompassionate people I have met have been religious people, I never understand how a lot of them can pick and choose who deserves to be loved and supported, given compassion on the basis of their sexuality, how they live their life, if they believe the same things as them, surely compassion, not judging others should be unconditionally whomever or whatever they are!? I will say though, from your post you appear to be different from persons such as Grahame Got another one for you - Blinded Information Based on Lack of Evidence
  10. You completely avoid answering any of the questions put to you Grahame, and just make a few comments that are your own unverifiable and unsubstantiated opinion. You offer nothing that is provable, verified or substantiated. The tooth fairy came to see me yesterday, said she'd had lunch with Santa Clause and he would be popping round to see my new friends Archie. Nobody can see archie, not even me, but he was really helpful yesterday, he turned some old treacle into a really nice glass of single malt whiskey, he healed my dogs broken leg and said if I followed his instructions and accepted him into my life, then I'd goto fluffy marshmellow land when I die See that as verifable and substantiated as anything you have said so far.
  11. So what is you stand on homosexuality and homosexuals Grahame?
  12. So if there is nothing to prove which part of the bible are parables and which parts are 'factual history' as you say, I am interested how these verified archaeology findings and manuscripts offer any proof that the bible is factual history. Perhaps you could provide us with some peer reviewed and agreed findings?
  13. So how does this fit in with the Genesis 6 day creation account:- Day 1: Light; day and night Day 2: Sea and Heavens Day 3: Land and vegetation Day 4: Sun, moon and stars Day 5: Sea creatures; birds Day 6: Land creatures; man Where in the bible does it say that there is a period of 4.5 billion years between the creation of the Earth? Facts have shown the earth to be approx 4.5 billions years old, never seen where the bible even suggests this gap.
  14. Hmmm but this leads onto that we don't actually know for sure which parts are parables and which aren't, so again the bible only has basis in fiction.
