  1. Hi Jess, Iā€™d recommend Richard Porter 07950 282859. Heā€™s done an excellent job on my house, inside and out. Great can-do attitude, alway punctual and real attention to detail. Only issue might be that because heā€™s so good, heā€™ll be booked up, but worth asking! Cheers.
  2. Jeff the joiner saves the day! Iā€™d like to make a recommendation for Jeff the joiner (07861 379796). Iā€™d had some damp work done by another company, and needed some bespoke skirting fitted - so it matched the rest of the house. The other company kept promising they were sending ā€œtheir guyā€ as it was included in the price, but eventually I gave up waiting and called trusty Jeff! My deadline was quite tight (given the delays caused by the other company) but Jeff fitted me in, kept me informed of when he was coming and came when he said he would (a miracle these days!) The damp work had meant the wall stuck-out into the room more than it used to, which meant doors needed planing, and the skirting needed expert fitting- planing the back of the board so it chamfered into the door casing. Jeff also understood that the damp proofing meant different fixings to standard needed to be used. While Jeff was there, he also chopped out a new lock for the front door. Whilst working on the door he noticed the source of my wet carpet (water coming in under the door) and fixed that at the same time too. Thatā€™s whatā€™s really reassuring when you have Jeff on your job, he obviously does the job you want him too, but if he finds other issues, he cracks on and gets them fixed at the same time, as he wants the whole job to be a good one. He even squeezed in an hour or so to help my decorator with a rotten bit of bay window, replacing the rotten pine with a lovely piece of hard wood - excellent job! Cheers Jeff, you really saved me on this one. Will be seeing you again soon! Claire
  3. Oakbrook Chimney Services Just wanted to say a big thank you to Oakbrook Chimney Services for a first rate job and getting me out of a pickle after a job from another tradesman left me in the lurch! Lewis and this team were always very polite, punctual, helpful and some of the tidiest workmen Iā€™ve ever known! Always taking off their shoes, mixing up outside to minimise the dust and always swept up after each day. We had damp issues with an old, decrepit open coal fireplace, and, to be frank, my old bones were getting very tired of all the maintenance it entailed. Iā€™d had enough of the fire and wanted it gone. I called Oakbrook Chimneys to see what could be done about the damp in the chimney and if they knew anyone who could remove the fireplace. Lewis popped round a few days later and swept the chimney for me so I could use it one last time at Christmas. He gave me a full assessment of the chimney, the stack and what removal would entail. He said that he and his team could carry out all the works and it would be completed in a matter of days ā€“ I was thrilled! After the festive season Lewis and his team came back; the fireplace was removed, an air brick was installed where the old fireplace once stood to allow the chimney to still breathe, and a new chimney pot and cowl was installed on the roof so no more rain could fall down the chimney. All the damaged and wet plaster was removed, and, although he said he would ā€˜make goodā€™ the plaster around where the old fireplace had come out, I was thrilled to walk into my siting room with a cup of tea for him, to find that he hadnā€™t just patched round the fireplace, but heā€™d skimmed the whole wall! It was a beautiful job, finished off with a piece of custom made skirting that exactly matched the old so youā€™d never even have known what once stood there. A few weeks later, I had a bit of a catastrophe; I was having new windows installed and although the windows were great, all the interior plaster fell off around them! Oh no! The window fitters couldnā€™t plaster and the decorator was coming in two weeks! A quick (pleading) call to Lewis and all was ok again; he put himself out and squeezed me in for some emergency plastering. I canā€™t thank Lewis and his team enough and would highly recommend them to anyone! Thanks, Mrs N, in the 1930 house
  4. Hi Looking for recommendations for landscapers / fencers to: Replace our old traditional fence with new concrete foundations, gravel boards (plain not brick effect) and sturdy timber fencing ā€“ at least 6 foot high (preferably higher) The old fence is made up of approximately 20x 6ft wide panels which is bedded on soil and held up by wooden posts and metal spikes Level out the land next to the fence (may need mini digger) Remove tree stumps Turf the land up to the fence and extend the lawn into the garden boarder (making the boarder smaller and more manageable) Thanks
  5. Recommendation for Jeff Smith the fabulous joiner! I first found Jeff here on Sheffield forum. I needed someone to construct a banister in a difficult space, repair some stair treads that had broken off and fit some skirting board in an attic room. The job was fantastic! He even rehung a door that was on a wonk in with the job, when I mentioned it on the day. I was so please with the work that I had him come back and do some more skirting board and architrave work, on some skirting that my dad had originally custom spinal moulded, but was taken to ill to fit for me. The care, attention and respect Jeff gave my dads work was first class, and the job is beautiful. Attention to detail is second to none. Thank you Jeff- see you next week for some kitchen fitting work!
  6. Hi there all you creature lovers. I've wanted a kitten for so many years but allergies prevented me getting one, or so I thought. Last year I discovered the Siberian breed which is meant be be much lower in the enzyme that causes allergies. I went to a reputable breeder and did two allergy sittings. I had no reaction. Yesterday I brought home my beautiful Siberian male kitten. He's goergous, very polite, litter trained and very social (but obviously still missing mum and litter mates). I started off with a bit of a sniff and thought I could cope but tragically I got rushed to the hospital last night not being able to breathe properly, I had to have an adrenalin injection to reopen my airways. Now I'm totally distraught - what should I do? I've spoken to the breeder and she will take him back, but it's a long trip for him and she would agree to me giving him to another person after she (and me) did some checks to make sure he'd be looked after... Is there anyone out there who would love my little boy as much as I do, without the risk of them pegging it at any point? He is so beautiful and it breaks my heart to write this.
