  1. oh yeah got some bacon but thats in the fridge for me for now
  2. ok guys, bin out and got poison and traps, rentokill ones. now poison as a counter measure, as its a city centre 2nd floor apartment, so prolly other residents attracting them as my flat is clean n nice! (rules out the vole) have melted a cadburys button (no thorntons as it were a 5er for a box! ) onto the trap and its very sensitive, mounted at back of the loo. mixed in some broken up choccy into the poison and placed a tray behind the sink, behind the cooker, and behind the fridge,,so bring it on,,whatever the hell it is!? any bets to be placed (should i catch owt) ?
  3. we have google'd images on the subject of: mouse, english mouse, mouse breeds, rat, black rat, brown rat, gerbil, russian gerbil, hamster, brown hamster, gerboa, bat, frog, toad, - just had me landlord on the phone, he was well freaked out and is getting the management agency to look into it tomorrow, found a hole under a pipe in the bathroom,, so no one is goin the loo for a while
  4. well i know this sounds funny and all but its perplexed me n the missus,,,we r still trying to think wot kind of escaped small rodent round like animal it was! think we r just to freaked out,,,dunno!

  6. ah the brown bear, sticky carpets galour! though, i like the place as samuel smiths beer is top, and at 1.29 for a pint of cask ale, its top! not rough either, just full of mostly old rotting men who smoke cigars,,
  7. lol forget XP on it then. though u cud try windows 2000,, depends what u want to do with the puter. @NUCAD i will bear that in mind then as may need some property maintenance at some point
  8. well i was going to say it sounds like it could be something else that u have accidently damaged whilst 'cleaning' as motherboards normally emit such a noise if the memory or cpu has been hurt in some way or if its getting too hot. but u say its coming from the hard drive and its that making the noise. buy another one, they r cheap enough, install windows onto the new one and use that, then put old one back in and see what u can do with getting it to work again and if u can, copy all data over as it sounds like it could be on its way out. or it could just be u dint quite put it back correctly and the cable isnt correctly seated in the hard drive and the mobo, and the same goes for the rest of the cables and components... get some one else to do it if u aint to confident, and get them to show u as they do it so u can learn
  9. sounds like the best way,,get some one else to do it for free if not!! where is this wonderful warehouse u talk of? u sell computer stuff then?? Could be a potential customer
  10. puter doesnt boot up at all? nothing on the screen, and long beeep beeep beeps?
  11. @mel that wont work, the booting into dos with a old ME floppy. trust me ive tried. It did for other older versions of windows. if it did then there would be no need for the rest of the disks,, answers are in all the posts above!
  12. yes, as i said in my post, becareful to select the right file on the site, because if u get boot disks for SP1 ( Service Pack ) and u have a SP2 disk, then it maynot work, similarly on Home and Professional editions. There are hacked/alternative versions of this about and they tend to be smaller and require less disks just seen your reply, the boot up disks tell your puter to not look to install from a floppy but to install from a cd, so provided u have the XP disk in the drive, the floppy shud then invoke setup from your CD rom drive.
  13. on my Asus a7v8x - i can boot from the sata drive, but when i have IDE devices things get more complicated. Windows XP WANTS to put a file on2 the IDE drive for booting purposes, even though its isnt C and primary. Solution: unplug IDE drives when re-formatting, set windows up on the single sata drive, as it happly does on my sata ( have some sata booting settings enabled in my bios) boots up ok on its own after re-installation,, then when its all hunky dory, add the IDE drives after and sweet as!
  14. yeah u can, i do. but becareful if u want to actually boot from the SATA drive(the windows drive), it can pose some problems on some boards, mine for example!
  15. in order to boot from CD from the BIOS level theres a few things u need to take into mind. The computer needs to be told to boot from CD, u can do that a number of ways, of which varies on Motherboard manufacturers. Main thing is to go into the BIOS (press Del when booting in most instances) and set boot options, ie boot device 1 - set to CD drive, boot device 2 - IDE 1 hard drive etc,, then, save and exit,,,make sure the WinXP disk is in the drive when turning on and make sure the Disk u have is bootable?! secondly, some pcs require u to press a key at boot time to select what to boot, sometimes a F key, on my laptop its F12, on a machine i once had (asus) it was ESC,,,then u select the CD rom drive. thirdly, the machine maybe so old n naff that u can boot from cd at BIOS level and can only boot from floppy. in which case u need to substitute above settings for floppy and then go to bootdisk.com or the windows site, and download the file to make floppy bootables,,thing is u will need something like 6 floppys.. lol have fun, hope this helps
