  1. Have you removed leaves from the plants? This provides more light to the tomatoes and the plant can focus on fruit production. They should be ok on the plant until the first frost You could try putting a banana skin near the green tomatoes as gases given off buy the decaying banana skin are supposed to quicken the ripening process. I've read this can be done whilst the toms are on the plant or pick them and put them in a draw with the banana skin.
  2. I'd be up for some timber, I'm looking at building some wooden plant pots. Is what you've got suitable? I'm in Dodworth so will be able to collect when ever. Cheers
  3. Don't know if is a bit short notice - but I'm working in that area tomorrow and would love a few bags for my veggies. If there is still any available please let me know. I can bring down bags to replace however many I take away. Thanks
  4. I might be interested if you could let me know where you are?
  5. I've not got any myself yet..........I work on building sites most days so I'm still on the look out for free(ish) ones.
  6. I contacted Darnall Hire on Friday and they very quickly replied to me with: "the price for second hand 13ft scaffolding boards is £8.00 plus the usual VAT" So £9.40 for 13 foot.
  7. Thanks for the replies - I've contacted Darnall and await their response.
  8. Hi, Anybody know where i might be able to get hold of some used scaffold boards for a raised bed? I've spoken to a couple of local builders with no luck. I've looked on ebay, but they ain't cheap on there. Any one used/know of some one who might be able to help. I've got a van so collection is no problem. Thanks
  9. We were planing on going to a car boot this weekend but due to the girlfriend not feeling well we missed out. As such, all the pond/bog plants I was hoping to sell are now sat in my back yard. If anyone is interested I'd love to swap with other pond/bog plants or anything else you might have for swaps. I've got: Umbrella plant/Nut sedge - Cyperuss eragrostis x11 Double meadow buttercup - Ranunculus acrisss 'Flore Pleno' x11 Gardener's Garters/Ribbon Grass - Phalaris Arundinacea Picta x1 Purple loosestrife - Lythrum salicaria x3 Arrowhead - Sagittaria latifolia x3 Marsh Forget -Me-Not - Myosotis Palustriss x1 Lizard's Tail - Saururus cernuus x3 I've also go some excess: Frog bit - Hydrocharis morsus-ranae And various oxygenators All these are self seeded/split and grown on by myself, from a fish free pond. I'm in Dodworth (a bit out of the way for most people on here I know). I was going to sell them for 50p-£1 on the car boot. Any questions or if I'm not allowed to do this sort of thing here please let me know. Cheers Ric
  10. Winter flowering pansies and violas spring to mind, bit "common" but they do give nice colour in the darkest of days. Most garden centres have them in now, also B&Q etc.
  11. P.S. I tried PMing you but it says your mail box is full.
  12. hi there, the last lost of "raw" manure i got off you has just been spread over my garden, so the chance of some well rotted stuff sounds great. If it's still available please let me know and I'll pop by in the next week. Cheers Ric
  13. I've been thinking of getting a few hens to home in the quite area in the bottom of our garden, a shaded wooded area behind some large hedges. I've read info all over the net and think we would be able to keep them with no problems, after building a run (i might have to ask the neighbours if they had any problems with potential noise). But does anyone know if there is any type of legal reasons to stop me keeping hens in a domestic garden (I'm in Dodworth - so its hardly city centre), such as restrictive covenants etc. and to who would i direct the questions if i needed to find out? HenHugger - do you still have any manure left? I'dd love a few bags for my veggie patch. Thanks
  14. I got a canon 350d a few years ago when they were the new kid on the block and I still love it. When i first got it was my first slr and I tried to take some pics - hey all came out rubbish and I thought that was the best part of 1k wasted. But i soon got a detailed book and dvd on how to use it and what a difference it made. As to what camera to get........have a look around, read reviews and decide what you want it for then splash the cash and enjoy!
