  1. The moment you link to "The Canary" you've lost the argument. Same rule also applies to Breitbart.
  2. Also worth looking in the Hop Hideout and also Turner's. Both on Abbeydale Road.
  3. Named after the proprietor's love of pork scratchings.
  4. Went in today and was very impressed. Beers from Blue Bee, Exit 33 & Hopcraft. Chap who runs it is from Kent and is clearly trying to best of Kentish Micropubs to Sheffield. I really like it.
  5. More information in the all new all singing all dancing Dronfield CAMRA magazine "Peel Ale"! https://issuu.com/dronfieldcamra/docs/2016-02_summer/1
  6. I identified this during the referendum campaign, in which I was active for "Stonger In". It became clear from talking to Labour folk that there are major issues with the way the party is (or isn't) being run. Issues that go beyond left and right such as communication and teamwork.
  7. The problem I see with Corbyn is not left wingery. It's the ability to lead a large, fractious organisation like the Labour party. It's something much more basic than a belief that the railways would be better if they were run by the state.
  8. One issue with the Meadowhall area is that it is not the most desirable residential location. Even with the big shopping centre that in many respects beats nearby town centres hands down it's not exactly had a whole lot of "gentrification". It's still a place you communute to and not so much from.
  9. Very enjoyable day. Started off at the Miners Arms in Hundall, which had IMHO the best beer selection of any pub I went in. However, the best surprise of the day was how good some of the pubs which don't have the big reputations were. The Horse & Jockey in Unstone was surprisingly good on the day. The beer might not have been a big draw at the Yew Tree in Coal Aston but fortunately they had the best live music.
  10. Even if I were a 'Kipper I would not want Neil Hamilton as my MP in a month of Sunday's. Still, it does show pretty conclusively that UKIP and "vote leave" have absolutely no integrity whatsoever.
  11. I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to shove the chorizo in the correct orifice.....
  12. It's almost as though Katie Hopkins has modelled herself on the evil queen from Game Of Thrones isn't it?
  13. Rotherham desperately needs more credible opposition to Labour than a hard right party like UKIP can ever provide.
  14. Definitely start at The Beer House. Maybe onto Sharrow Vale Road to The Lescar, back onto Eccy Road for The Portland House (Wellbeck Abbey's pub) maybe the Sheaf Island then finish at The Beer Engine round the back of Waitrose.
  15. Just been in. Plenty of good stuff on keg but the cask range is unimpressive. Service is also slow. Hopefully it will be more impressive when it's quieter.
  16. 3 Tuns is my second favourite Sheffield pub after Shakespeare's as well! Not as "beer-geeky" as some places round here but the beer is still very good. Add in the food, staff and atmosphere and it adds up to an all round excellent pub!
  17. Back to the old problem of not enough new people attending meetings and volunteering to get involved on judging panels. That leads to the usual suspects judging and winning the award.
  18. Believe it or not Mild enthusiasts do exist! Although they are a rare breed round these parts.
  19. I visited last week. First went past about 4pm and it was indeed closed. returned about 7pm and it was open and busy. Essentially it just struck me as a fairly typical town centre place, but with some nice beer.
  20. Not quite the tick list. Things like "Community Focus" do pop up on county judging forms though. ---------- Post added 08-04-2016 at 19:29 ---------- It's a good pub, but as far as I'm concerned Shakespeare's is better by miles. Better beer range, much friendlier and much better staff. I'm sure people must be left scratching their heads at the Kelham Island Tavern winning all these CAMRA gongs at every level year after year. ---------- Post added 08-04-2016 at 19:34 ---------- On that note, there seems to be a definite trend for heavy metal themed beers at the moment! As much as I do love Iron Maiden, Eddie the 'Ead on the pumpclip is not enough to make me buy a beer. ---------- Post added 08-04-2016 at 19:36 ---------- Dronfield has its own CAMRA branch now. Current Dronfield CAMRA pub of the year is the Miners Arms in Hundal, which is absolutely brilliant!
  21. Given that it's the Currant Bun, I can't say I'm surprised. http://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/mar/22/sun-removes-innacurate-article-sheffield-estate-worst-in-britain?CMP=twt_a-media_b-gdnmedia
  22. Kelham Island? That's more trolley pushing beer ticker than actual hipster if you ask me. Personally I'd say that Leeds offers more for the hipster.
  23. Alan Johnson is a Hull politican, not a Sheffield "region" one. Furthermore, I suspect that he's more likely to end up as an interim Labour leader if / when Jeremy Corbyn gets the boot. ---------- Post added 12-03-2016 at 10:42 ---------- Proposals for an elected mayoor of Sheffield were rejected in a referendum as the proposals were incredibly vague. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17949950 However, following the Tory election victory last year, plans to impose an elected mayor are being revived. And this time it won't just be a mayor for Sheffield, but for Sheffield City region, which also includes Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield, Derbyshire dales and Bassetlaw. http://sheffieldcityregion.org.uk/about/overview/ High Peak is being divvied up to Manchester City region.
  24. It's still a big thing for partisan right wingers, but not for people who don't write fan-mail to Katie Hopkins. I've lived in some very tribally Conservative parts of the South East and seen tribal politics from both sides, which in turn makes me very wary of that sort of rubbish.
  25. This is the third time I've had to post this link on this thread. Do keep up. If the Democrats or Republicans were to make importing English Premier League football to the USA their policy that would indeed be just as ridiculous as the Tories policy of promoting the NFL, and seeking to uproot an NFL franchise from the USA to play games in London. http://www.espn.co.uk/american-fb/story/_/id/12690535/conservative-party-announces-ambitions-united-kingdom-based-nfl-nba-mlb-franchise-part-manifesto-ahead-uk-general-election
