  1. A matter that will have been affecting those of you using Sheffield train station this week (when they haven't been on strike of course) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-44242402
  2. GHB Dental Care in Greenhill are very good indeed, especially if you are nervous about dentists but also not cheap.
  3. Sadly, I think that racism goes to the dark heart of human nature, specifically the part that wants to shut out anyone not from our own tribe. It's clearly a vote winner. However, that does not make it right. Worth remembering that every hegemony in history - Rome, Tang, Mongol, Dutch, British, American - thrived by being more tolerant of diversity than its rivals. And every one failed when it stopped embracing that diversity. If 15th-16th century Spain had hated Jews and Muslims a little less we'd probably be posting in Spanish right now.
  4. Enjoyed it there last week, after not drinking in Sheffield (other than the Commercial in Chapeltown) for some time.
  5. In some places it is rare for real ale pubs to show TV sport. And Sheffield is one of those places. In other places (Liverpool is an obvious example) that's not the case at all.
  6. In an ideal world I would say Stella Creasy, but we do not live in an ideal world and it would most likely be somebody like John McDonnell with the backing of Momentum and Unite.
  7. Very true. We have the worst government since the Great Reform Act and to compound matters the main opposition party is failing to do it's job and hold them to account on the biggest issue facing this country. ---------- Post added 31-03-2018 at 13:18 ---------- I find the domination of Labour by creepy cultists personally loyal to Corbyn over anything else no matter what the evidence to the contrary to be very worrying.
  8. I'm sure DHL Supply Chain will have a specialist foodstuffs side of the business. I'm also sure that they have bitten off more than they can chew with the KFC contract! The IT systems also appear to have been a major factor here for a calamity on this scale. BTW, spare a thought for all the DHL drivers who have been getting non-stop stick from customers on their rounds this week!
  9. At her best Natascha Engel was mediocre. At worst she was waffling, disingenuous and totally unreliable. As to the current MP for North East Derbyshire? Lee Rowley may bang on about being a "local boy" but his background is as the councillor for Maida Vale on Westminster council. Rowley's record on Westminster council does not look good and Westminster council Tories are as much of an automatic no-no for me as South Yorkshire Labour.
  10. Labour did need to make a LOT of effort to retain North East Derbyshire, but it seems that Momentum were more interested in making the effort to get Jared O'Mara elected in Sheffield Hallam instead. Mind you, I have to agree that Natascha Engel was did run the greatest campaign. The main thing we got from her during the general election was a 4 page screed in the Dronfield Eye in favour of fracking! She seemed to be going out of her way to alienate people. But as disappointing and underwhelming as Engel was, she was still much better then Jared O'Mara.
  11. Since you appear not to have a Scooby Doo what's going on, let me elaborate. North East Derbyshire now has a Conservative MP. A chap by the name of Lee Rowley. Labour lost the seat thanks in no small part to a lacklustre local campaign. And it is worth noting at this point that Momentum appeared not to be campaigning very much at all in North East Derbyshire, and the outgoing Labour MP was not at all aligned with them. In fact Natascha Engel seemed at times to go out of her way to alienate people.
  12. Not sure Coppard would be a popular choice with Momentum types.
  13. In politics they probably are very thin on the ground. ---------- Post added 28-10-2017 at 10:52 ---------- If you want to make a Momentum supporter squirm, ask them why they spent all that time campaigning for Jared O'Mara in Hallam when they could have just as easily gone to North East Derbyshire to try and stop Labour losing the seat to Lee Rowley!
  14. The Abbeydale keg beers were a big hit. My personal favourites were Siren Tickle Monster, Siren 10 Finger Discount, Wild Beer Jambo, Brew By Numbers Cuvee and Verdant Bloom.
  15. Hoyland has embraced the Micropub concept quite a lot recently. Has anyone else been in any of the new Micropubs up there? Tap & Brew at Hoyland Common in very nice and comfy, although it could do with more toilet facilities. The Knave & Kestrel is a bit odd as it's a "Kes" themed bar! There also O'yle in Wall which is a small Irish Bar round the corner from the Knave & Kestrel in the centre of Hoyland. Not been in that one myself though.
  16. Much like the Gardeners Rest, it's an oasis of pleasantness in a less than pleasant area.
  17. The Seldom Seen Engine House in Eckington Woods would be a great location for a scene in a horror film.
  18. I have been keenly monitoring the reaction to this on Tw@tter and the anti-fracking campaigners and local residents responding to this are in no way "taken care of" or appeased. Quite the opposite in fact! I think she (and INEOS) will have to show a lot more of their research to local residents to get them anywhere close to accepting fracking. And I don't think a couple of extra buses a day will be enough to bring Marsh Lane residents round to Engels point of view.
  19. A loaded question with the answer you might be wishing for certain to get less votes as a result of this. Regardless of your political viewpoint, there's no getting round the fact that politics in 2017 is a sickly, unjust beast.
  20. Dronfield Conservatives have made a point of opposing the fracking proposal! The fact that this policy is in direct contradiction of Westminster Tory policy is yet to catch up with them. And the Tory candidate for North East Derbyshire is not mentioning the issue much.
  21. You do realise that she's only going to get thrashed even harder because of this don't you? Tories are heavily targeting North East Derbyshire, and they know when to keep their mouths shut on this subject.
  22. Been to a well known example (The Black Buoy in Wivenhoe) which is good and very popular with locals. The worry for me would be if it becomes a platform for office politics and endless committee meetings.
  23. The views of Natascha Engel, Labour MP for North East Derbyshire on proposals for fracking near Eckington. Goes directly against Labour party policy and will be something of a slap in the face for the majority of local residents opposed to fracking. https://nataschaengel.com/fracking/
  24. I would say that the big thing Sheffield lacks is not generic "craft" beer bars but places like Bundobust that are just as big on food. ---------- Post added 20-12-2016 at 21:18 ---------- My top 3 would probably be Shakespeare's, 3 Tuns and Sheaf View. Other contenders include the Beer Engine and Walkley Beer Co.
