  1. I don't do Facebook so I can't comment on there. I didn't know Doreen personally other than she made the flowers for our wedding in 1970. At the time I used to pass her shop on my way to work and she was the obvious choice because I was able to call in my lunchtime.

She was very outspoken as was her mother who used to be in the shop but, she had flair for flower arranging and she made exactly the ones we designed.

Is it anecdotal information you require or family history research?

    Both please..

  2. Hi I'm trying to find information about Doreen.

I know she passed away some years ago but would also like to find as much info as possible...She owned a fruit & Veg shop on well rd Heeley which also did flower arranging..Her mother was called Mrs Morrison (Flo)

please check Heeley past & Present via facebook...:)

  3. I'm looking for information about that time, my father-in-law served on Gibraltar during 1954-1956 for his national service, do you have any pictures, details, information from that time. His name is Ray Cobby, Lance Corporal, he was in the RAOC and also rowed for the Army Whaler crew? I really hope you can help.

Don't really have any info but if you go on the site facebook there's a group called RAF Gibraltar they have some good photos on there

    hope this helps a little

  4. This might have gone before so if it has I apologise for wasting everyones time.

When I was a kid I often wondered what was the longest road in Sheffield.

This can be measured in length or highest house number.

    1. Did any road in Sheffield go over 1,000 as a house number?

2 Does anyone know which is the longest road? I always thought it might be Gleadless Road but maybe it was Rivelin Valley Road. How about Herries Road or possibly Prince of Wales or even Abbeydale Road.

    I await your learned comments.

    Happy walking!!

PS I don't think we can include changes to the road by adding South or North to a road like Abbeydale Road South

Hi there Just got back from Canada and spent most my time in Toronto there's a street there called Yonge Street. That's the longest one in the world

  5. i worked at herries in 1980,under the "guidance" of gordon hobson, the school caretaker.

What an arsehole, always on the moral high ground, but having affairs with a couple of his cleaning staff while married.

Nice one bit of salacious gossip I went to Herries between 76- 81 so we were there at the same time don't really remember the cleaners apart from one never even crossed my mind at that age that people would be having affairs...:hihi: LOL:hihi:

  6. Does the Boys brigade still exist today.

I was in Andover Street as a kid and used to go on the spring bank holiday marches to Firthpark.

They used to get a large following and it was a long walk to Firth Park from Pitsmoor in them days.

I have some old 8mm footage now transfered on to video of the march coming up Barnsley Road about 1964 with all my family and little old blonde me.

Do you think that todays kids would take part in anything like that, its hard to see an 8 year old with a boys brigade uniform on today.

I was in in the BB for a short space of time early 70's. can't remember its name/number but it was based at the top of Sutherland Road and Petre street. We Marched from there (it was a real big dealwith loads turning out to watch) to Firth park which seemed like miles but very enjoyable and on the way we would meet and join up with other bands and churches or organisations I thought it was great. It wasn't until years later that found out kids/people where doing the same on the same day marching to Meersbrook Hillsborugh and Western park never knew that's pretty awesome. This would never happen in this day and age NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
