  1. I dont have a wide band aerial and get Freeview with no problem.
  2. I used Highlander in a previous job and always found them to be very knowledgable and very helpful.
  3. Ive said before, and i'll say again: RT Valeting (http://www.rtvleting.co.uk) did a brilliant job on my car, and I was very impressed. Their attention to detail was second to none. They also do something called "detailing" but im not sure what thats about. It was only £50 for a full Valet on my Fiesta.
  4. Okidoki. No problem! Ive had a quick look on Fleebay and bought some from China for a fiver, so i'll see if these are any good and then perhaps buy some more!
  5. Ive been quoted £200 for supply and install by someone. I think that's a little steep, so im probably going to buy the LED's myself and then do some soldering!
  6. I used RT Valeting (based in Barnsley) and the chap that came was brill. Really friendly and spent about 4 hours on the car. When he has finished it was like a new car! :-) http://www.rtvaleting.co.uk
  7. I dont want to chav up my car. I simply need to light it with flashing warning lights.
  8. Just for clarification, this is the sort of thing I am trying to achieve: http://www.emergencyequipmentshop.co.uk/phpThumb.php?src=images/gallery/im502867_Rear2.JPG&w=550
  9. Actually you can drive with an amber beacon on if you are travelling less than 20mph or are a highway maintenance vehicle, or of similar nature, like crane's etc.
  10. Fair enough. I've got a 12v socket in the boot, so my preferred option would be to run it from that if possible.
  11. I dont need to use them whilst driving, and why does it look chav? They are for my volunteer role, so dont want the voluntter otganisation to pay for them.
  12. Hey guys Im after some automotive advice. I want to fit some LED amber flashing lights to my car. I want some under the grille and in the boot. Whats the best way of doing this? Is it better to "properly" wire them onto the battery, or solder the wires into a cigarette lighter plug and run them that way?? Cheers A
  13. If you own the domain then you have overall rights to it, so it should be a simple task of just pointing the domain elsewhere. However before you do that you need to make sure that you have a site ready and available to publish once the move is complete.
  14. Blue Light Exemptions There is no authority that issues permission to use blue, green or amber lights on your vehicle. You must just follow the law. Any driver can drive using blue lights without needing any higher qualification than a driving licence. Most services do insist on their drivers undergoing some form of advanced driver training though, and there are moves to establishing a national standard. While using blue lights, drivers are exempt from a number of motoring regulations, and they are allow to * treat a red traffic light as a give way sign * pass to the wrong side of a keep left bollard * drive on a motorway hard shoulder (even against the direction of traffic) * disobey the speed limit (police, fire and ambulance services only) However, they are not allowed to * ignore a 'no entry' sign * ignore a 'stop' or 'give way' sign * drive the wrong way down a one-way street * ignore flashing signs at level crossings or fire stations * cross a solid white line down the middle of the road* *except in the same circumstances as everyone else (for instance to pass a stationary vehicle, slow moving cyclist or horse, or a road maintenance vehicle). This can cause problems for emergency drivers when other road users slow to let them pass where road markings indicate no overtaking. Sometimes emergency vehicles may need to disobey other signs and regulations. This will depend on the professional judgment of the driver. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_3.htm#%28Tii%29iicolourlightshownlampreflector
  15. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe they are allowed to drive the wrong way up a one way street. They can however drive the wrong way up the Motorway hard shoulder.
  16. In order for any vehicle to be exempt from speed limits, or claim any other expemtion to traffic law, they must have visual and audio warning devices on. So a Police car responding to an incident at speed must have their blue lights illuminated, and use the siren where it is deemed neccessary (usually when going through red lights, or complex junctions etc). With regards to the usual "why is it safe for the Police/Ambulance/Fire to do 70 in a 30, when i cant" nonsence - all emergency drivers are assesed to a high standard, and are trained to handle a vehicle at speed. They spend months learning how to read the road, and learning when it is safe to overtake etc. Its not just a case of driving at speed, its watching everything that happens around you, knowing the safe distances and when to brake so that they dont crash going round corners, or approaching roundabouts etc. They are taught how to control skids and blowouts at high speed, amongst other things.
  17. Just looked on the Barnsley council website, and in order to get one from them you have to prove: * you receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with mobility component) or * you claim Attendance Allowance (AA) or * you have a Blue Badge However you can buy one form RADAR themselves.
