Dronfield Bypass - Cyclist killed.
NorthernStar replied to megalithic's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Just come back from chesterfield after being sat on the bypass for a half hour stop. The carriageway back towards Sheffield is now running slowly but the other side towards Chesterfield was still closed when I came past. There were lots of police taking photos and had their surveying gear out, saw a yellow mountain bike on the road and that seemed to be the centre of attention though there were also two or three cars parked too. Sorry to hear that someone died:( -
Another warm pleasant evening spoiled

This quote would be quite appropriate as well as Mr. blogs use of the word 'antediluvian' meaning - of or belonging to the time before the biblical Flood (admittedly I had to look that one up). I'm quite fortunate in having decent neighbours that don't cause me these kinds of noise problems though if I did, I think that my hose pipe would be used to inflict a flood of biblical proportions upon the source of my disturbance too. -
Stood and watched it near the finish line, great atmosphere so pleased I made the effort. ..... and after being told there was a 2 hour queue to get the tram back into town decided a to walk back and thoroughly enjoyed that too, and to top it all due to the TDF it only cost a pound for my Sunday morning swim What a day, but now I'm knackered.

Shoe Shine Places in Sheffield

Your only one step ahead of the shoeshine Jason! -
It will be interesting, but I foresee big problems with the whole economy on the horizon, buy to let rats are just part of a much bigger social and economic disaster looming in the not too distant future. Sorry to sound pessimistic, but I will chuckle to myself a little when some of these buy to let scroungers go under. ---------- Post added 22-06-2014 at 21:56 ---------- Good night Mr. Coutts I'm turning in, some of us have to get up in the morning to earn our crust.

Buy to letters are probably getting out because they feel that the property bubble has peaked and has become too risky, especially in the London market, landlords are not nice people in my experience. But I maintain that those properties will still exist and will be occupied with or without buy to let landlords, it is good if what you're saying about them 'getting out', hopefully some of them will be able to use their ill gotten gains for something of use to society instead of something damaging to society next time.

Me personally, I have mine as cold as possible (even turn the fridge to almost freezing) in hot whether, but over the winter months I like it at pantry temperature (slightly cooler than room temperature) - but each to his own. ---------- Post added 22-06-2014 at 20:52 ---------- Pretentious! , this is serious business I'll have you know.

Peace in the Park 2014, main stage line up revealed.
NorthernStar replied to coolbeans's topic in Going out in Sheffield
A fantastic day, thousands of people turned up; some great shows and stalls. A big thanks to those who organised, ran and took part in it; I've just wondered past and I'd like to say a massive thanks to those who are still cleaning up 'in the rain' looks like they are leaving no trace. Awesome! I wanted to leave this message on their website but don't do facebook or twitter so if anyone else can then please do. http://i59.tinypic.com/10772nm.jpg -
This is true but I never said anything about being nice to mice, just a way for me to enact a perceived revenge on an unpleasant character; I'm full of such devilment and no-one would ever suspect that I could ever do such a thing.

Would Iraq be better off if Saddam was still in charge?
NorthernStar replied to Lotusflower's topic in General Discussions
The first Iraq invasion had quite a bit to do with the Iraqi claims on the oil fields Kuwait were drilling IIRC, then the insistence that all oil transactions are to be made using the US Dollar thereby ensuring profit to the US whether the US are involved in any transaction or not. Saddam was making suggestions that he was going to cut the US out of the deal and had to be removed; exactly the same thing happened to Gaddafi when he thought about doing the same thing. It seems we are quite happy to deal with evil dictators as long as they do what the US tell them to do, it's all about the interests of the rich and politics not humanitarianism. -

NorthernStar replied to Lotusflower's topic in General Discussions
It is, and always has been about the oil and the petrodollar. Despite, our news telling us about humanitarian interventions etc., the truth is our leaders don't give a monkey's chuff about evil dictators as long as they let us and the americans have their assets. If Saddam had played ball and let the oil interests be traded the way the US wanted it to be traded he'd still be in power. -
Is it humane to leave a mouse in a field in the middle of nowhere? Does that give it a sporting chance of survival or does the poor little thing become sport for predators? Just a thought, I don't know the answer but it might be less humane to just use a standard trap or some other means of promptly dispatching of mice. I like the idea of humane traps but I'd release them through the letterbox of some unpleasant character, but that's just me.

He may have spent £5000 on it but holding property to ransom and charging an extortionate rent, he certainly wasn't doing it out of altruistic goodwill. It would have been better for him to do something creative with his spare cash and leave the property to be used as a home for someone and not somewhere some poor sod has to put up with for some greedy little sods benefit. Taking out a mortgage with the intention of taking advantage of someone or a benefits system seems like an abhorrent act to me, and I don't think people should be able to do it. The whole thing has played havoc with the cost of housing and has quite frankly created an overheated market.

The buy to let market has a lot to answer for, please don't expect me to feel sorry for some scrounger that thought it would be a great use of his money to fleece both tax payer and tenants. Buy to Let parasites generally create poor accommodation at extortionate rents and produce nothing in return. The amount of crappy rented accommodation I've seen that has been poorly maintained by greedy little halfwits that don't have the first idea is shocking. The buy to let market needs more regulation and landlords should be licensed and kept in check to reduce the flood of cowboys and incompetents profiteering from the current housing crisis.

Only one problem per visit at the doctors
NorthernStar replied to banjodeano's topic in General Discussions
Not sure how the Docs get paid, if it's per consultation then I'm guessing your just a cashcow to be milked (twice); either that your the doc simply didn't like the cut of your gib and chose to be difficult. -
10% of the NHS budget spent on diabetes
NorthernStar replied to Daven's topic in General Discussions
No-one should be refused NHS treatment IMO, encouragement is a good idea as well as tackling the problem of food manufactures and allied industries who push unhealthy foods (especially those that target children). -

I've lived in Upperthorpe for about 5 years and never had any problems, there are groups of youths hanging around but that's not exactly unique to Upperthorpe.
