  1. You've obviously never tried it! I bet you can remember the 60s!
  2. Yes, it could be a surprise given the nature of the corner, but the instinct should be to brake, not to give it some welly and hope for the best! I had my headlights on, so it's not like he couldn't have seen me had he been looking.
  3. If I were to assume that such was likely to happen every time, I might never get the courage to make the turn. There comes a point when you have to go, and if some burk does that there's little you can do really, especially if there are people on the pavement - if there had been, I'd have had to trust my airbags!
  4. It would have been easier had he been driving more predictably. He looked as though he was going to wait, but decided to give it full throttle and swing out instead!
  5. Yeah, right! I'm not knocking the stuff, I'm saying that people are not in a fit state when stoned to ensure the safety of a child.
  6. Perhaps the dog's owners were not in a fit state to ensure the child's safety?
  7. There is an idiot who parks his/her car illegally on the grass verge at the top of Stephen Hill. This obstructs the flow of traffic onto Manchester Road and has severely damaged the grass verge. There are also idiots who drive up Stephen Hill and think they have some god-given right to swing out into the other lane to pass this car, which forces cars entering Stephen Hill from Manchester Road to go up onto the pavement. The law, as I understand it, states that those going down a hill may give way to those going up, if they so chose. However, the hill is level at this point, so no cars are going either up or down in that sense. Also, the 'give way' bit is important there too: it is still the right of way for those going down. This evening, a fatal crash was avoided by my rapid reaction when a moron in a white van attempted to wipe-out my family and me by forcing us on to the pavement. Discuss.
  8. I recommend that you don't waste your money!
  9. I guess you mean 'Of course...' rather than 'Off course...'. FYI the only biological effect of radio waves is thermal, and that is irrefutably negligible for the general population, unless you happen to stick your head into an MOD radar dish!
  10. People have to die of something, don't they, or do you think you are innately immortal? If we cure heart disease, people will die from strokes; if we cure stroke, they will die from cancer. You can't escape death - sorry! The reasons why people die from what they do is no great mystery. We do not have difficulty accounting for the causes of cancer in the general population. Radio waves are not the reason why some die earlier than others. PS Don't forget to wear you aluminium-foil hat!
  11. Contact your health visitor or GP. If you are really worried right now, phone NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Alternatively, you can call in at the Sheffield NHS Walk-In Centre: This is a nurse-led service located at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Opening hours are Monday to Sunday 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM. B Floor, Royal Hallamshire Hospital Glossop Road S10 2JF Telephone:271 2340
  12. Oh don't be silly! Of course radio waves are safe; of course they have been properly studied, and over a great length of time too! Life expectancy has increased and general health has improved in-line with the increase in our radio wave exposure, so one could argue that they are good for us! However, that would be silly: they have no effect at all, so stop worrying!
  13. These are great fun, and the teacher is no arse. All you have to do it make a few small holes in the material for the water to get through, or give it a gentle squeeze under water or inject some water using an icing syringe or similar, or add a small amount of fairy liquid to act as a wetting agent and increase the permeability of the material. It's so simple! It won't hurt a bit to leave it submerged all night if that helps! Arse indeed!
