  1. I'd say electro music as well. I bought a new amp from there on Sunday. In fact I'm possibly looking to get rid of my old one now. It's a 10 year old Marshall Valvestate AVT150. Nice loud amp. Too loud for my house nowadays. I bought a 4W Vox AC4TV, which is a fantastic little full class A valve amp retailing at £189 brand new. If you go to electro, I'd suggest you try one out. I wish I'd got one of those back when I was 16 instead of forking out £600 for the 150W Marshall. Not guitar amps though. Richer sounds are hi-fi's (I thought).
  2. Hmm. Will be calling her this week so shall mention it. In the mean time, here's her myspace: http://www.myspace.com/lauragoucher Must admit I particularly like that one entitled 'G'05 Rough version'. And I managed to 'acquire' a copy of guitar pro, which lets me get access to all those nice jazz-tabs!
  3. Sounds good. Have you been in touch with to Laura yet? Also, on a side note, any idea where I can find good jazz tablatures (like Kenny Burrell, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock etc)? Most of the main tab sites only seem to have powertabs for them, and I don't want to have to buy that program for them.
  4. Well this is my last.fm profile: http://www.last.fm/user/tph216 And some recordings I (rather hurriedly) made are somewhere amongst the thread here: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=508511
  5. Out of interest, how much would I be looking at for a pick-up and controls change on an ES-335? Labour only - I can find out how much new pick-ups and a control upgrade kit would set me back. As for luthiery, maybe Electro-music in Doncaster would be worth a try? They all seem to know what they're doing in there, and there is a little workshop area near the back.
  6. Don't worry, got one now. Not a Gibson, decided against that kind of outlay. Rather an Epiphone Dot, which I'm intending to eventually upgrade the electronics for. But for the moment, I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. (Why am I posting this, I'm sure no one cares)?
  7. Hi Laura. I was looking for people looking to do something in this area / genre last September, but there weren't many about!? Am currently (temporarily) living near Doncaster, but am intending to move back out Sheffield way eventually as I work near there. But, might be interested in possibly doing something along the lines of what you're talking about. I play mainly acoustic guitar, I'm 26 and have been playing since 14. I posted some clips on one of my past posts, if you can find them. And this (http://www.last.fm/user/tph216) gives an idea of the sort of stuff I'm into at the moment. Feel free to PM if you're interested.
  8. Anyone got one for sale, or know of any for sale anywhere? Preferably vintage not reissued.
  9. Not gigged much at all really. Last time I played anything live was at uni in 2005. I'm not really in practice soloing so much, but as long as I'm given tabs of what you'd want playing should be able to manage. Where abouts are you guys based anyway? What other stuff you got in your set? Lou Reed, Radiohead & Eric Clapton stand out to me at the moment, but as I said anything's fine really.
  10. Might be interested; you seem to be into some pretty good music, and sound good from the songs on your myspace. I'm a little older than you lot I think, mind (26, just). Anyway, I'd posted some clips of my guitaring a few months back which should still be active. They're post no 8, in: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=508511 And my last.fm profile: http://www.last.fm/user/tph216 Let me know what you think. Regards, Tom
  11. Well yeah true the council tax and utilities are still going to cost with a mortgage, but simply not living in flats / apartments, or being settled in your own long-term place, I think allows you to economise a bit more easily, which is harder to do in flats. If that makes any sense!? Since leaving uni, I've rented for 2.5 years now, which I said I'd do until the house prices corrected themselves (that's how long I've been waiting or expecting it). So I've paid out maybe £12k on renting over that time, with the expectation that prices would fall much further than that in the interim, and I'd be better off for it. A price of a £100k house probably had dropped by about 10-15% by this time last year, but they've gone back up again since then. I'm expecting a bigger dip is imminent though, so I'm still confident that my plan will pan out well. If it gets to September / October time and it looks like it isn't going to happen, I think I'll just end up deciding to bite the bullet, take the losses and buy. But that'd be a shame.
  12. I've been following the property market with a keen eye for the past couple of years, and with increased interest over the past several weeks. I think something pretty big is about to happen shortly, possibly triggered by the elections in May. I've even started a facebook group with the aim of gauging interest in the subject. If anyone is interested in joining, it can be found here. The intention is that relevant discussions can be held there, and I have been posting the occasional link to news stories and general bull**** that gets reported which makes me laugh. As for my situation, I was renting in the city centre up until about 10 days ago, but have just decided to take up the offer of staying with parents for a while, so that I can save a mortgage deposit a little quicker. I'm aiming to buy soon, but am holding out to see what happens come May. Before that I've rented places for at least the past 3 years, ranging cost-wise between £300 - £485 per month. I always found it's all the other expenses that really add up though. Like, in my last place (Northbank apts, Wicker), the council tax was costing me £102 a month, electricity £60pm and rent £460. Could easily afford a mortgage for that, but the deposit's the tricky thing right now. And even when you get a small deposit (10% anyway, it's still a lot), you're going to get ripped off on interest at the moment - like 6% or worse!! What a sham!
  13. I can play the beginning of a Django song called Tears, but haven't really learnt any more. As for Jazz, about the only proper 'jazz' song I can play in full is Soul Lament, by Kenny Burrell. Not sure I'm looking to play jazz though. Interesting to know there're people in Sheffield interested in it though.
  14. Hi Lara, Just been listening to your stuff on myspace. Pretty impressive, your voice kind of reminds me of the singer from Jefferson Airplane a little. Do you play any instruments yourself? (I'm curious as to how you go about writing your own songs). As for me, I'm an acoustic guitarist, 25, been playing for about 10 years, and am possibly looking for a new pastime in the form of practising & gigging regularly with a small band. I'm open to playing anything really, but my own musical tastes can be found on my last.fm profile. http://www.last.fm/user/tph216 Regards, Tom
  15. Out of interest, are there any percussionists out there? I'm thinking simple drums, brushes, bongos, woodblocks, triangles, glockenspiels etc...
