  1. Please could someone tell me if Marsh Lane car boot is still running as I would like to do one this Sunday or has it finished? Many thanks
  2. What Jessica Ennis does with her money is absolutely no ones business except her own. It's absolutely disgusting that she is getting lambasted for using the money that she has earnt from her profession to buy a property. Yes some of you may have worked however many years and have little to show for it by comparison but I was taught that you are where you are because of the the choices you have made. Jess chose to pursue a career as an athlete and her hard work and determination has paid off. Jealousy is a terrible thing.
  3. I hope this chap has managed to find work. Walking around with a sandwich board might not be the conventional way of finding employment but I take my hat off to him for doing something pro active. There are far too many individuals in this society who are wiling to take from the government in the form of benefits, but are not prepared to but anything back into the pot by actively seeking work and thus putting money back into the system through NI and income tax. It's refreshing to see someone who hasn't got the mentality of claiming all the benefits under the sun just because they are out of work.
  4. I wonder on what basis the council are deciding which areas to resurface first? I would hope it would be the areas most in need but it wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't the case. I live in the SW of Sheffield and have to say that the roads a truly shocking. Up until now the council's solution has been to fill in the holes which surely must end up being more costly than resurfacing the road- most near me resemble a patchwork of filled in potholes.
  5. Yes I've used it but it was complimentary at the time with my credit card. It depends how much it costs- it's nice to be out if the hustle and bustle of the airport. There are drinks and snacks (all free of course) but for me the best thing was the peace.
  6. Hi, I just wanted to add my thoughts to this thread. I know that some have ridiculed the price of £1.50 per cupcake but as someone who buys them, this is a fairly reasonable price. There is a very well known Sheffield cupcake shop that sells cupcakes for £1.95 each so people that are scoffing at the price clearly have no idea about the going rate. As to whether they have been overdone, I would say that it is probably a better idea if you offer cakes as well as cupcakes as people will always want Birthday/celebration cakes and that way you are not limiting your market straight away. A well designed website would be a good idea too. Hope this is of some use to you and good luck.
  7. Hi there, I've recently bought a set of clip in halo hair extensions but they are slightly the wrong shade of blonde to match my hair colour so just wondered if anyone could recommend a hairdressers in Sheffield which would be able to sort them out for me. As they cost £75 it seems a waste to just have them sitting in a drawer unused and I am not able to return them to the compnay due to the nature of the product. Any advice would be much appreciated.
  8. As a local resident I am wholeheartedly against Tesco's proposal and I really hope that those making the decision on this act in a fair manner and are not swayed by Tesco's tactics of offering to invest in other local projects. To me this just shows how desperate Tesco are to have their application approved. Fingers crossed that it's a case of David versus Golliath.
  9. Hi, I've read several threads that pose the question 'how much is it to have a website designed and built' and many of the answers are along the lines of 'it depends what your needs are'. I'm at a very early stage in developing the concept for my business which includes a website that will allow the general public to post their reviews of certain products. I will need to be able to manage the website content as it will be fluid and I will need to post updates etc. I know this is a very brief description but I want to make clear that this won't just be a brochure style website. I also don't want to give away too much. I would appreciate any feedback about the associated costs even if it is just a price bracket as I need to factor this into my business plan, however I am realistic that this won't just cost £100.
  10. As a (very) local resident to Parkhead I strongly object to the Tesco proposal and accordingly I have signed the petition.
  11. I'm appalled at some of the comments on this thread. Firstly one of the comments makes reference to the fact that she's a graduate- this has no bearing on the case whatsoever. Secondly to the individuals stating that this is simply banter, whilst some people might interpret it as that, others may take more offense; not everyone has the confidence to be able to stick up for themselves when presented in this sort of situation. Employment law is there for a reason.
  12. Sheffield City Airport was always doomed to failure for a couple of reasons- firstly the decision to build an airport with a limited runway length. The runway length dictated the type of aircraft that could operate from the airport and so that's why there wasn't a large amount of commericial traffic. The location of the airport was always questionable from the very outset. There were also issues regarding the motives of the company that owned the airport but that's another story. To answer the question about why we can't have a 'proper' airport in Sheffield you have to look at not only the demand but also what would be the motive for the airport operator. East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Doncaster, and Manchester airports are all within 1.5 hours of the city and in the current climate it would take a very brave operator to invest the amount of capital required to develop a 'proper' airport in the Sheffield area. The amount of infrastructure required is vast, at least Doncaster airport was built on what was RAF Finningley and anyone that flies from Leeds Bradford knows the implications of building an airport on an unsuitable location. It would be great to have an airport of notable size in Sheffield, however in my opinion, the realities of commercial aviation mean that it is unlikely to happen.
  13. I just wanted to add my experinece of 'replica' to this thread as I attended on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago with a friend. We went to the club between 11.30 and 12pm and after we got in we were dissappointed to find that beside us there was only a handful of people in the club. After 20 minutes or so we decided to leave and go elsewhere even though we had just paid £6 each for entry. In terms of the music that was played, I have to disagree with the post made by 'Replica' about the types of music played in room 2. Whilst the genre of music was RnB, the typical songs were those of Rihanna, what I would call 'pop RnB', which suited me fine but I realise this is not to everyones taste. I was a big fan of Replubic and subsequently Gatecrasher One, and feel that since the clubs demise in 2007 there has been a massive gap in Sheffield's nightclub scene. I feel that Replica will not be filling this gap which is a massive shame.
  14. Can anyone confirm whether Marsh Lane is planned to go ahead on Sunday?
  15. Hi there, can anybody tell me if Marsh Lane car boot will be going ahead this sunday- it's just with it being Easter Sunday I wanted to check? Also, for those of you experience with carbooting - is it normally busy on a bank holiday weekend or is it dead? Many thanks in advance.
