  1. Hi Anyone know of a decent taekwondo club that also covers some boxing /kickboxing around rotherham area, mexborough, conisbrough, dearne? Preferably wtf tkd forms and progressive adult syllabus. Thanks
  2. I can recommend some good Karate instructors' in Sheff: Nev Hamilton: his group is called South Yorkshire Shotokan Karate Association, classes at Livingwell gym and Niagara sports centre. Also Bob Hague who I think teaches in Hillsborough. there are many good mart arts instructors with simple pay-as-you-train. Pilsung Taekwondo also good. Beware of groups like castle bba! Avoid contracts, extortionate direct debits etc. Good luck
  3. Where in Mexborough out of interest? Would have thought several martial arts groups would be v. interested. Especially as there are few m-arts clubs in Mexborough?
  4. FAO XSTITCHER****** TAGB do ITF Style Taekwondo. ie,,,they do the ITF patterns. Therefore, it may be worth trying the tagb club in sheffield. Good luck.
  5. In martial arts, you get trends,,,just like anything else. Yes, there is lots of interest in mma, K1 etc. But semi-contact stuff will persist and exist. As for the ridiculous 'semi contact' is for wimps quote: Some people want to spar without risking brain damage######!!!!!. Oh yeah,,, and if we're talking about styles and titles: it could be argued that full contact kickboxing and mma is mega-fragmented with loads of factions,,and therefore it's titles are meaningful to the recipient only. These threads are full of people basically saying: 'I'm harder than you, cause' I do full contact'. There is a place still for all types of martial art, whether it be Karate, TKD, Judo, k-boxing, BJJ or whatever.
  6. Regarding the South Yorkshire Karate Association club at Swinton. What age do they train children from? Also, are there adult classes? Thanks
  7. dear marcas1 I have not been disparaging towards the BTA - but it's my opinion that it is very unlikely to grow in any capacity. Judging by the leecheekin website, there does not appear to be many member clubs. I would say that it has dwindled considerably since the late 1980's, not just the past decade. the advantages you mention about your club are no different to any tkd club I have trained at (including BTA, BTF, BTCB). Regarding training costs at btcb clubs in yorkshire - normally between 3 to 5 quid per lesson. licence is 28 quid per year. regards mode101
  8. I wish you all the best with your TKD training. Regarding the BTA: It could be argued that this organisation has little status in modern british taekwondo. I remember it being quite large around 1985 -86. These days it seems to exist in spirit more than anything else. It is worth pointing out that the BTA is not part of Btcb, or the British Taekwondo council, and therefore is not linked to UK sport to my knowledge. Although this does not necessarily mean your club is any less relevant than a club within the govening body. Regards fast-track for 2012?: please explain more. I cannot see that an independent club in mexborough has been approached by UK sport regarding the development of british prospects for the 2012 olympics. There are contentious issues within british TKD - But this is a stonewall fact: the british taekwondo association has absolutely nothing to do with 2012 olympic taekwondo. Kind Regards. mode101
  9. With regard to this discussion relating to south yorks TKD. I find it a little disappointing these days that there are so few adults training in TKD. There are loads of clubs, but training suitable for aduts is sparse. Please feel free to comment on clubs with a good adult base, especially any around Mexborough, Swinton, Roth, Dearne Valley.
