  1. For those of a certain age on saturday The Star reported the recent death of our old Deputy Head Cyril Askham. also known as Toj after the Japanese emporer. He was 95 What an innings. If caning had been a sport he would have captained Great Britain at the Olympics, without the need to complain about the lack of training facilities. NICE ONE CYRIL
  2. Does the Samanthas reunion feature Paul "The Ace" Richards spinning some of the ultra smooth classic sounds of Major Lance. Pity its not on mad Friday when some of the oldest swingers in town, the 50+ crowd could have given it ago. This after a few pints and raising the average age in All Bar One and Sylvesters
  3. Went to probably the first all nighter at Samanthas horrified when bar closed at 2. gave it an hour then left. No lager and no spare. Never bothered again. Great tracks played which first aired at Nether Edge Hall were The Shakers, One Wonderful Moment and Dobie Gray, Out On The Floor which through lack of drink appropriately never happened.
  4. Terry Sigsworth, Yvonne Spink, Judith Clarke and Carole Beatson these girls would grace any school corridor.
  5. Being a regular at Scamps was almost as good as it gets. Monday nights were for chillin and full of girls without their boyfriends. Then friday and Saturday bring on the Woodseats lads and Intake girls. Saturday Night fever and Back in the Night. Tommy Rocknroller on the door. Luggy, Sisso, The Doshers, Mivvy, Gus, Kev R and many more. A smooch to The Floaters Float On. Remember an attractive barmaid who`d split up from one of Utd`s young Scottish footballers looking after us with cheap drinks. Bouncers from Bier Cellar next door were a pain they should have stayed singing Ein Prosit with Herr Sykes. Chipshop near Hermitage finished the night off. Ace taxis, taxi for Batemoor.
  6. Has anybody seen the superb tv comedy series the Inbetweeners. Its like watching a re-run of some of my days at Rolo. Enthusiasm for everything including girls but usually ending in dismal failure. So imagine when a few years after leaving I came across one of the loveliest ex Rolo girls stood alone outside the Crazy Daisy. After a brief chat she asked if I would like to walk her home. My first thought was S8s a long way and I cant believe this is happening to me. Fortunately she was staying close to town. As we reached the doorstep we kissed goodnight a couple of times. I then braved the question if there was a chance I could see her again. The silence was deafening before she said she couldnt, this was slightly just better than a knock back. As the door closed, still on a high I went and fell over gashed my knee and ruined my best Cecil Gee strides. I later heard she had a boyfriend and may be ships passing in the night was all it was meant to be.
