Mess left at Base Green after grass cutting
northernboy replied to RJRB's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The mowing elves appeared this morning, eight months after they last deigned to visit. Strimmers at 7am, fantastic - a free wake-up service for residents! They have done an "interesting" job - the grass now ranges from totally scalped to knee-height, and the shredded litter gives a confetti effect. Well done to everyone concerned! -
I've had to do similar exercises before as part of management "training" days - not this exact one, but equally ridiculous things. It's not humiliating if everyone is taking part, it would be if only one person or a few selected people were being made to do these things. However, I fail to see quite how it actually achieves anything. One "memorable" exercise involved a "shepherd" shouting various swear words to direct his blindfolded "sheep" (the other participants) around a field - they actually took us out into a field to do this!

I know this is from last year, but does anyone know if the council contractors will be cutting the grass verges this year, or has the service been cut? If they are still doing it, who does it come under - Amey, Streets Ahead, someone else? Thanks. -
Possible relocation of lowedges surgery
northernboy replied to foxydebs's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I used to go to the Meadowhead surgery, then it moved to Greenhill Old School, then that merged with Lowedges, now it will be Jordanthorpe - every time they move they're getting further away from me. Sadly, consolidate and merge seems to be the way things are going. Fewer, larger centres rather than small independent ones. Not just in health care either - retail, media, transport, telecoms - it just seems to be the way things are going. -
I wouldn't have thought it needs to be a secure site, have you tried without the https? Just http://www.thestar.co.uk

The next "picture" is usually an ad or a video which I have to skip - maybe you have an adblocker that's preventing the ad but also stopping you moving on? I hate those lists!

FirstGroup gets take over offer from Apollo
northernboy replied to ChrisIB's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
It might feel like they are putting up prices, but a First day ticket costs the same as it did in 2007. A 4-week ticket is £48, but in 2005 a month cost £54 Whether the current prices are actually good value for the service they deliver is another matter! -
Edge did the same to me a few months ago. I eventually fixed it - there was a conflict with Trusteer/Rapport. If you have that installed, try removing or updating it.

Is he really on a "weekly wage"? Seems a bit unlikely to me.

The link to the street cameras has been out of action for quite a while. The cameras are still working, "Streets Ahead" sometimes post stills from them on Twitter, it's just that the general public can't view them at the moment. There is another thread about that somewhere. -

No buses at all currently, First or Stagecoach. No purple trams, blue to Middlewood only not Malin Bridge, yellow route running. -
The website is terrible, but it's the same for all local papers owned by Johnson Press. The tablet app gives a PDF reproduction of the printed paper, so slightly less rubbish, but still out of date and lots of recycled stories from this very forum. At least it's free!

"Chief executive of Channel 4 Alex Mahon said Channel 4 would open three new “creative hubs” in the nations and regions, with the largest to be a new national HQ." So, three in the nations and regions, given that Wales has S4C = one in Northern Ireland, one in Scotland, the third probably in Birmingham?

There is an app, the current version needs a subscription, but the original version of the tablet app was subscription free, if you can find it anywhere - it still works!

Food companies told to cut calories by 20%
northernboy replied to realcockney's topic in General Discussions
I'm not sure what this is going to achieve. If Kayden/Jayden/Faeden isn't full after their (20% smaller) ready meal they will just have a bag of crisps or bar of chocolate, or both! -

Digging out the car park by the doctors seems to have taken most of the time, but now they are rebuilding the wall so maybe they are nearing completion. -
This story is the front page headline of today's Star, but they don't have any new information to add to what we already know.
-
Exactly. The cameras are working perfectly, they occasionally post images from them on Twitter, it should be really straightforward to restore the live feed. Unless there is some other reason...

Very poor. Also, John Cleese appeared incapable of moving his mouth to speak. Has he had a stroke, or just too much botox ?

If a nearby seat becomes empty I'll always move. No offence intended, it just means that we both get more elbow-room. However I wouldn't move to the opposite end of the bus, it would have to be relatively close.

Local knowledge can be useful. Sometimes the "next bus" site tells me to walk for 15 minutes to a particular stop to catch a different route, but I know that if I wait I can catch a faster service from a much closer stop.
