You have a collection for batteries? Wow! We don’t have food waste collections either, garden waste is only if you pay extra... it’s time the government imposed national standards for waste recycling, get some consistency!

Sheffield's New Lord Mayor - Magid Magid
northernboy replied to Halibut's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
He has apparently sent a hand written letter to the Home Secretary about Orgreave. The letter begins "Ey up Saj". There's yet another photo of Magic squatting on a table wearing a T shirt with a slogan on it. -

Just been to stand outside in the rain! The air seems so much fresher. -

Lots of thunder now (Friday 7.45am) but currently dry. -
The music didn't bother me, I was just curious where it was coming from. Sheffield Star website has now picked up on this event, but have nothing useful to add to what we can read on Facebook.

Sounds shambolic. I assume that’s where the loud music I can hear is coming from, it’s been playing since about 9am, thought it must be a Tramlines rave in the woods!

Road Closures - Sheffield Grand Prix Cycle Race.

The traffic diversions seemed to work better this year. In previous years this event has resulted in long traffic queues and delays (described as “gridlock” online but that’s probably an exaggeration) but this year it didn’t seem so bad. -
Grass Verge need cutting - Sheffield Council
northernboy replied to barmyowls's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
A guy on a ride-on mower has just been to look at our verges but as the grass is about 1cm long, brown and dead, there was nothing for him to actually do. Still, I'm sure he will enjoy his day driving round in the sun! -
What’s the environmental cost of manufacturing and distributing 230,000 brown bins? If it was combined with an improvement in the recycling provision you could understand it, but the only “improvement” seems to be a cost saving for Veolia, which may or may not be passed on to the council.

S c c to introduce red line routes

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. -
The brown bin will apparently be the same size as the black bin. However, this is a bit vague, as I've seen at least 3 different sizes of black bins, so who knows!
-
I don’t understand how the proposed change will save money. The recycling lorry will still visit every 2 weeks, but will collect different items on each visit. So same vehicles, same number of journeys... plus the cost of manufacturing and distributing all the new brown bins (financial cost and environmental cost), it doesn’t add up to me! Oh, and my blue bin is full after 2 weeks, so any paper or card from weeks 3 and 4 will end up in the black bin.

A single car? (Genuine enquiry) Presumably it’s a marked vehicle, so if people can see the car’s not there, they will revert to bad parking. I wish someone would enforce the yellow lines & zigzags by the school near me. Local councillors are aware but still the bad parking continues. -

I'm probably guilty of walking in a cycle lane simply because I'm sometimes unaware that a slightly different colour of pavement indicates it's for cyclists, when there are so many other patches, trenches and colours of pavement, and no obvious signage indicating cycle lane.

As the ph of "pure" water is 7, your reading of 6.8 looks pretty good to me (bearing in mind that it's 29 years since my last Chemisty lesson!)

Black Bins: Are Monthly Collections on the Horizon?
northernboy replied to Baron99's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Post #3 is correct. They are reducing the frequency of collection of recyclables. My blue bin is currently full after 2 weeks, so more will end up going to landfill/incineration. -
The linked article says "People who use the Wi-Fi will be provided with “private VLAN” technology which means they will have a more secure " - does anyone have more details about this?

Norton Retail Park - St James
northernboy replied to shazzamattazza's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
That's a shame, but I'm not surprised. Trade was bound to have been affected by the never-ending roadworks outside, and as you say the new retail park at Norton will soon be open. But to answer your question, sorry no I've not heard anything. -
I got a privacy notice (using the app) which I had to scroll right to the bottom and accept, then it was normal after that. Are you using an app or the website?

Accordion busker next to John Lewis
northernboy replied to Conte's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I know exactly who you mean. The lack of variety in his repertoire is astounding - you'd imagine he'd even bore himself with the amount of repetition. The same 8-bar excerpt of "Despacito" seems to pop up every few minutes. -
Also, no parking?! Flippin great multi storey car park next door with discounts for market shoppers!
