  1. Why would presume what ticket I buy ? You know nothing about me. It's a bit like me presuming that you are a SYPTE customer advisor getting paid £28,000 plus a year with free bus travel for you and all your family thrown in. OK, you do great work advising people, but negative views aren't allowed and will be stamped on. Just like our bus companies have the total backing of Sheffield councillors and media - all affluent people who never use the buses anyway. Can I draw peoples attention to this - https://www.citymetric.com/transport/phone-based-tickets-make-buses-more-efficient-will-poorest-passengers-lose-out-3852 First tell me there are very few instances of people paying by App and then being refused travel because the App isn't working. I have seen many. Android reviews of the App show many aggrieved people. Also, please consider this. The App first asks to track your location. Fair enough. It then demands to access your photos, media and files on your device. No way. If you allow that, it then wants to access your phone number, list of contacts etc. If you say no, they deny you use of the App and you WILL pay extra. So spend a few days reading through the many terms and conditions and get a lawyer to explain it all to you. Last month I saw a programme on a news channel about the massive new industries springing up around data. OK we all know about Google, Facebook etc. People using Google are giving permission to be tracked, have their data collected and used etc etc in return for using Google's many, amazing products. Maps, street view, search, android, chrome. YOU aren't a customer of Google, you are a partner. Exchanging your data for their products. I am happy with that. The TV programme showed us round a massive data centre with people sat training artificial intelligence to collect and recognise data. An example I will give is the large supermarket chain that has installed cameras on all it's tills. Go down The Moor and do some shopping. You are recorded entering the store, walking around, then at the self checkout, you appear on screen right in front of you. You are filmed entering your loyalty card, so the AI then connects your face to your account, and has all your details, name, address, financial details. The people sat in data centres are helping the AI to recognise your face as you enter the store and track what you are interested in. It then tracks how you pay, has your credit card details etc, checks what coupons you have used. You may also use your loyalty account for other things, like this one has a reward scheme where you answer surveys for extra points. So they ask you all about your holidays, political views etc. Now take that a stage further. The First m ticket App. It can track you from your home, walking to the bus stop, showing the driver your ticket, where you are filmed for facial recognition. They then know where you get off, the location tracker that you agreed to can see where you go after leaving the bus, they can scan your contact list and see if any of your friends are in the same area, do you go for lunch, go to work, how long you stay there before heading back to the bus. Do you go to the supermarket on the way - merge data with the supermarket. If they know your job, say a carer, they can track the vulnerable people who's home you visit, if you ring them on the way. You are their slave. You will comply. The difference is, with Google you are their partner. With First and supermarkets (etc) you are their customer. You are paying them for their service (or lack of in First's case). They are taking your data and charging you as well. And if you say no, you will pay extra (or pay in advance if you have to travel to an interchange to buy a ticket so you can get there and buy another one). And everything on SF, in the press etc is positive because people are paid to manipulate your thoughts on forums. The Star editor is out with Jack Scott at functions discussing their positive spin, and how they can collaborate to suppress the disadvantaged in the city. But word on the street and on the buses is that very few people are happy with this, in fact hardly anyone knows about it. First buses will be full of freeriders - because they are partners not customers. Stagecoach buses will be full of fare paying passengers until they follow suit. One month... two ? Once they have their AI all set up for facial recognition by matching you via First's app and supermarket loyalty cards, they are expanding it onto street cameras, so you will be recognised by CCTV. OK, rant over. I will not be using these apps, I will not be paying extra for refusing to let them track me, and I will now return to my self imposed SF exile before I get stamped on by Big Brother.
  2. Personally I have four smartphones. The oldest is Symbian operating system which is no good for new apps. Then I have bought two Sony's which are so full of bloat-ware that they won't download anything new due to lack of memory. My latest which I paid a lot for and is still under guarantee is great, except some apps crash all the time, not covered by warranty of course. So if First think I am risking getting stranded when I have already paid, or am going to pay more to pay by any other means, they can think again. When I go out I wait and see which bus turns up, First or Stagecoach, and I get on that, unless it's full of school kids, then I wait for the alternative. So that makes it impossible to activate a m-ticket anyway. Back to the car I think when Stagecoach follow suit, as they will. Buses will be running with non-paying passengers riding round all day.
  3. Yes I used to use the doctors on Hemper Lane, Dr.John's senior, who was succeeded by his son before moving the surgery to Reney Avenue. I wouldn't advise anyone registering with Reney Avenue. My mother thought she had suffered a heart attack, and rather than bother anyone, she walked to the surgery and explained to the receptionists, who told her to go home and phone up for an appointment like everyone else has to. She didn't tell anyone about this for three months and has refused to see a GP for many years since. Probably the right attitude as she has outlived everyone else in the family.
  4. Generally, or last night in particular ? I believe it is closed while new licensees are found. Last night people attending this - https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1523908 were advised to park at either Cross House Lane or the bottom red lion to avoid getting caught drink driving after the wake (aptly named "Gusfest") at Lane Head Farm. I think the invites to the wake said something like "Come and get <removed> to show your respect". Which just about sums it up.
  5. Don't Hawleys now own Jack's Tyres at Burncross ? If so avoid. Spent five minutes looking for a slow leak on my brand new tyre, then asked me to wait outside and a minute later came out with the tyre showing me a massive gash in it which he had obviously just put there. On the other hand they do puncture repairs for £10 cash in hand, but if you need a receipt, forget it.
  6. It would appear that Stocksbridge will suffer the same as High Green with a lack of services to Hillsborough - or maybe it will be Hillsborough shops that suffer more. I realised that the 85 from High Green will be halved to every hour, but now that the timetable has appeared, it seems that the 85 will no longer do the loop around High Green, just going to Fosters Way as it does now, but then turning round and returning. This bus is always busy around 8am to 9am with people going to work or college at Hillsborough, and also it is the only way to Sheffield that avoids the yobs going to Eccesfield school, who fill the 1 and 1a buses from 7.30 to 8.45am. I know so many people who are afraid to get the 1 and 1a at these times, and so use the 85. People aren't going to walk from, say Wortley Road to The Fosters. Maybe getting a 1 or 1a going a few stops through High Green to The Fosters may look a good idea to First, but when 85's will only be every hour, the chances of timing it right would be impossible. Unless I am missing something of course ?
  7. That is exactly correct. Anything to do with Sheffield Council and their responsibilities is a total farce. They employ companies to do their work, and then both the council and the company ignore everyone until it suits them to deal with something, and out come the threatening letters. Three years ago my mum-in-law took her pension details to the local housing office (as ordered to) and they said they didn't need to see them anymore. Then came a letter accusing her of fraud, so she sat up worrying for three days and nights before she told anyone. This year my husband e.mailed the housing benefits service to ask what they wanted to see and how best to do it - no reply after 2 months. So he filled in a form on the internet with the information, which has eventually resulted in a letter demanding to see everything, which she has to take in person. She's in her 90's and housebound. My husband will take it of course... but he'll probably get arrested if they start treating him like dirt. If Sheffield City Council go on ignoring people there will eventually be some big disaster or scandal - or they will pick on the wrong person.
  8. If anyone is interested in stopping this anti-competition setting of prices and routes, please use this web site to complain. Sheffield Bus partnership is illegal. http://ec.europa.eu/competition/cartels/overview/index_en.html Has anyone else noticed how First and Stagecoach's customer service (or lack of) has changed. You can't get a straight answer off anyone, buses show as "live times" and still don't turn up, neither company will tell you why, and basically, they take your money and don't give a damn about giving you the service you paid for. PLEASE complain.
  9. There is no wonder the school is failing, teachers/head etc don't give a damn about anyone but themselves, and as for the parents of the children !?! Do you parents know how your little angels behave on the buses to and from Ecclesfield School ? Do you care ? Let me tell you. It is all push and shove, threats to elderly people (knowing the kids are untouchable) and elderly people made to stand while children sit with their bags at the side of them on a seat. I have been in touch with everyone possible about how bad this is. E.mailing the school, contacting both bus companies, SYPTE, SAFE, SCC etc etc, and no one gives a damn. I know of people who have given up going for cancer treatment at the hospitals because they cannot cope with being on the buses from High Green between 7.30 and 8.45 am. AT 3pm the buses go into the school and there are four teachers supervising the kids getting on buses. But what then ? Forget about them and let them riot ! Bus drivers are told not to react in any way to anything that happens. But then you can see where the kids get it from when you get to the school and see other parents dropping the kids off in cars. Blocking the road while the child gets out of the car, total gridlock from Chapeltown to Ecclesfield. I've seen kids at bus stops in Ecclesfield ripping peoples fences down, climbing over into gardens. Even if you manage or dare to get on a bus the talk is sex, booze, drugs and (mainly) illegal highs. Who had to be carried home from the woods the night before because they were zombified by spice. YES parents, this is your little darlings !
  10. The first time I came across him I was with a young girl who told me things about him and shouted abuse at him. The next time he was at Firth Park with a large group of people throwing stones and bricks at him. May be harmless and just different... who knows. I have seen him in the new market a few times, all in black footie gear, but a few weeks ago he was on a bus heading to the Hallamshire and was constantly talking to himself saying "tell them they have got to take you in, you can't go on like this, be insistent, refuse to go". Then he started shouting racist stuff at a black lady who was looking at him like she was concerned about him. Hopefully he got the treatment he wanted.
  11. I can recall three occasions in the past when I have tried to get help from SCC Trading Standards. Never got further than the initial phone call - the last time they told me they had been shut down because of cut backs. Then again, at least I got to speak to someone. Three other departments I tried never answered or got back to messages. I also spoke to Blackpool Council Trading Standards and Food Hygiene and both were very helpful.
  12. It was just the same at Chapeltown and Ecclesfield in the evenings this week. Gang of around 20 Ecclesfield school kids hanging round in Market Place being abusive, many if them girls, while three lads on bikes were tearing round the Burncross Road roundabout in the wrong direction. All traffic was held up and nearly caused several accidents. Later it was kicking off, two of the lads on bikes nearly went under a bus as they came down Loundside very fast with no lights, or brakes by the look of it, while it appeared someone had thumped the third lad. Outside Aldi a girl with a group of lads was threatening to throw a full large cola bottle at passing cars, causing some to break, others to swerve. They know that the police won't attend, parents don't care. Biggest irony is Ecclesfield school has objected to a new chip shop at Premier because it will attract yobs near their unofficial school room, when all the yobs actually go to their school.
  13. Thanks for the comments everyone. Agree with everything said, complete waste of time trying to do anything about it with both Sheffield Council and Ecclesfield Parish Council. The guy at Ecclesfield would only offer to come to my home and discuss it in person, and he didn't sound very friendly. Like I say, looking at the planning, it doesn't appear that any permissions have been given to the football side of things, people can still object but have to have their addresses displayed, which I have found isn't a good idea. I presume the local residents feel the area will be more secure with the changes.
  14. I would like to ask for any opinions about what is happening at Thorncliffe Park. Well, to be honest it has already happened. I'm well aware that debates on here soon get out of hand, so let me say I have no bias to either side here, but what I find hard to understand is why there is no debate. If it were Graves Park, it would be a different story (and rightly so). Thorncliffe Park was a large open grassed area that was used for football matches, picnics, walking, various Sheffield Activity events. It leads to woodland and extended walks towards Tankersly, Hoyland etc. I had thought that the park was donated to Sheffield City Council by the previous owners of Newton Chambers and Thorncliffe Industrial Estate for use by local people. A swimming pool and leisure centre was proposed for one side of the park, and I never heard one objection. It took up around one-sixth of the park, wasn't in anyones way, and didn't affect any of the walks. Kier were given the contract (of course) and up it went. As the building was nearing completion, the fencing started to get moved out until it was right up to a bridge over a brook near Paces, and more excavation started. Then there was talk of a football academy, but nothing mentioned in planning permissions. The park was now two-thirds of it's original size, and then it became half size as another area was fenced off. A building went up extremely quickly and two artificial grass football pitches were added. Planning permission was sought, then the other half of the park was temporarily fenced off. A notice said it was for health and safety while other work was carried out, but then the fencing was replaced by permanent fencing - and the park was gone. This second half of the park has now been ploughed up and is apparently for two full size football pitches. The only areas now open to the public are round the edges of the fencing, and the pathways don't even join up. The mysteries of all of this are - who did the land belong to, did money change hands or was it just handed over, why has al this work happened when planning permission doesn't appear to have been granted ? Why has it all been so hush hush, and what part have Ecclesfield Parish Council played ? Yes the swimming pool was for the community (even though the Parish Council and other neighbours seemed to get work done to their own properties, and be very involved in the promotion). But the Football Academy isn't for the general public. What if planning permission isn't granted, or is it all sorted out with a dodgy handshake. I am hoping someone more educated and informed than myself can throw some light on this. I did try asking the Parish Council some time ago but got talked down with lots of waffle.
  15. I know there is very little chance that the parents will read this, or be bothered, but just seen two smart looking lads about 12/13 year olds dressed in black (Ecclesfield school uniform ?) heading up Greengate Lane towards the Co-op just after 11am. They were deliberately targeting elderly people and throwing exploding cap/popper "toys" between their feet, and they seemed a bit louder than ones I have seen before. Well yes, it's a great laugh, watching pensioners jump out of their skin and then giving them abuse. One elderly lady had an angina attack shortly afterwards, so well done, sure you'll be happy to know she will hopefully get over it. Fortunately there is a surveillance camera just above where you were, but I believe that's for the more serious crime of dog fouling.
