  1. Hi Jason-think a lot of forumers were touched by your story-hope it has helped you to find some closure in your life. I hope you have the strength to move on-keep those you love close to you-theres a reason they are in our future and some why some stay in our past. We only get one shot so go for it, we dont get a second chance but need to take all the chances we can. Sorry dont mean to babble on......good luck with the future and all it holds, take care and be strong, mumsy
  2. Yes Alisdair did move back to Scotland-not heard anything since he left, did see his brother in Romeos back in the mid-late 80's a few times but thats all, mumsy
  3. I remember Gillian Bloomer, Joanne Crafer, Michael Aldred and Alisdair Monson all living on Mona, think some others did too-popular road so close to the school! mumsyx
  4. HA ha great to hear from you John-have messaged you-keep in touch, take care, mumsy!! xxx
  5. Well hello John-blast from the past! Remember us we lived at 71 Wulfric Rd-aka Mark, Tracey and Nicola! I remember you all-David was the first boyfriend I kissed as a kid! We moved in 1979 but remember you all-especially your mum (a lovely lady) and your nan (Mrs Depledge?) Think you were in same year as Tracey at school-heard you had moved away from Sheffield. regards, mumsy xx
  6. Harlech was 'yellow' we always lost!!! I remember the arrows going up the wall in the school hall to indicate who was winning0-usually 'conway' - blue!! mumsy
  7. I am a late comer to this thread-I left prince Edwards in 79 but remember Mrs Newsome (nursery) Mrs Walker, Mrs Drury was my teacher for 2 years, Mrs Wheeler, Mrs Bruto,Mrs Thorpe, Mr Freeman, Mr Marks, Mrs Kingdom, Mrs Maltby, Mr Hibbert, Mr Rodgers(?) and I think the headteacher initially was a Mr Hill and deputy Mr Miles then followed by Mr Batty. I remember them redesigning/building the nursery and installing a medical room-I was the first pupil to christen it so no doubt have my name in the old medical book there! I remember Mrs Hartley in the juniors who would look after you if you were ill-a very gentle lady who always made you feel better! Mr Osborn was the school care taker and we always thought he was a bit of a legend-great with the kids-one of his dgtrs was in my year. Good memories, Sadly I dont remember ever having a photo taken at the school either individual or a group one, shame really would be good to look over. I remember my brother who was 4yrs older than me being in charge of the handbell to signal the end of break times and he would walk through the yards ringing it-when he got to my yard all the kids were envious as he would let me ring it!! I remember for a term I was allowed to clean up the pots in the staff room after the teachers breaks-we were given a bag of sweets at the end of the term as a thankyou-cant believe cleaning up after the teachers was actually a priviledge but there you go!! mumsy
  8. I remember 3 terminus-Tinker Lane for 95, or Camm St-for 95 which went up Greenhow St-dont think it would stand a chance of getting up there now-struggle to get a car down re parking! Also 52 terminus on Heavygate-hated getting the bus that terminated at School Rd as then had to walk over Crookes!! mumsy
  9. Same here USUK-also spent time in the 'prinny' (Princess Royal)-Slinn St Used to rollerskate in the Heavygate car par and down Matlock-fun times! mumsy
  10. We loved going on the death track on the Bolehills-if you went too fast you couldn't stop and would fly over the wall to Tinker Lane-certain death if u weren't quick enough to jump off your sledge! Grow bags were a good alternative in summer on the Bolehills-from the top(near 99 steps) to the monkey bumps-hurt your bum like crazy but whooa such a thrill!!! lol mumsy
  11. Linton Rd runs off the bottom of Wayland, or Bagshot ran down the side mumsy
  12. King James St is still there but has an appartment block at the top of it now with I think 1 set of semi's below. I live not far and our house was owned by a family who used to live on K/J/St before they moved! My kids go to St Marys-Cundy Street, would rather just have to walk half way up the hill than all the way to South Rd!! lol mumsy
  13. Hi Lynblu, sorry I dont recognise the name but hope she enjoyed her time there, mumsyx
  14. I used to work at Ash House at Dore, a big old building built for William Robinson in 1913/1915 I think. Does anyone know of its history? I worked there when it was owned by the council between 1988-93. I believe it was left to the council and has been used as a convalescent home for children in the 40/50's, a holiday home in the late 70's/80's and a residential home for older people since. Can anyone fill in the gaps please? Do you have any knowledge of the history of Ash House, did you work there? Did you see any ghosts? I certainly had a few strange experiences!!! mumsy
  15. I dont know the lad who was killed but did meet him, I remember his cousins John and David Turner who lived on the manor. It made the front pages obviously and was so sad, RIP, mumsy
  16. Hi there, I know the road and the house I think you have been offered. My husband comes from that area. We still visit weekly and the road is quiet although one resident does have a lot of visitors and has a tendancy to block the road with cars but less so recently. Its always quiet when we are up their, there has not been any changes to families for quite a few years so this would suggest people are happy there. I know the house u have been offered and it was tenanted by same family for years and at least 4 other families lived there over 20yrs to my knowledge! (and one more than double that!) Hope this is useful, mumsy!
  17. Thankyou for the photo's I have relatives (of my husbands) who are buried in the cemetery and hope to visit one day and locate the graves. Has the access improved at all and is there a 'quick way' to find out the location of the graves? Sorry this is all new to me but made an undertaking to a dear old lady I would find her mother and fathers grave, dating back to around 1923 Thankyou, mumsy
  18. Did you get the update? Just curious as I responded to your first post, regards, mumsy
  19. sorry I should have said the home was in South Sheffield, mumsy
  20. Hi there, I used to be a manager in a home for the elderly which closed down in 1993. We used to have a resident in the home with the same name and he was a boxer-had a few posters of him in his younger days with his 'belt' on his bedroom wall. He died before the home closed-could this be your uncle? regards, mumsy
  21. Hi Moetchampers, think I may know who you are looking for, do u want to pm me with more info? cheers mumsy
  22. Hi All, I have not posted on this thread as only just come across it but have been so moved by Jasons story and the support everyone has given to Jason. I too hope Jason is ok and hope the search for his brother has ended..successfully. I like others will wait for a response and hope his search has now ended. mumsy
  23. I never lived on Kelvin but worked in the Kelvin day centre for a while and Upperthorpe N/F school. Loved looking at the photo's-certainly brought back memories. Had friends who lived on the Kelvin in the 80's. Have shown my children the photo's as we live close by and they just cant visualise it being there-the area it covered was so large and was such an imposing building. Some of the photos as you faced Kelvin from Langsett Rd show masionette type housing to the right hand side on the hill (top side of Wraggies) were these what is now Fox Rd/top side of Burgoyne Rd. Was this the housing before the current estate? was built? Have lived at crookes/walkley since 79 and dont recall this style of housing there only at the Oxford St side-can someone confirm? Thankyou mumsy
  24. Like above 2 users I have just read all through the threads-interesting stuff. We moved to Crookes in 79 so a youngster compared to some. I remember the old co-ops, Kandy Kabin-was in same year at school as dgtr Francesca, Ballins, Pointers-the sweet shop-think this was leapers at some point-my mum still refers to this as leapers to this day! I remember Baxters being Oxleys and delivering papers for them also for Pagdens(opposite current horse n rider) and Laines who were at the side of St Lukes church. My mum loved the sweet shop next door but one to St Lukes and always sent me there for highland toffee. Copplies at the corner of Northfield Rd/Bradley Street. Greasy Joes chippy where Jaflong is now-I used to deliver his newspaper too! I think even from the late 70's early 80's the only shops still trading under same name are Post office (School Rd) & Carracks-have any others remained? I was surprised to see Monica Hewitts changed hands-only noticed this recently. I remember too the old smelly toilets at the top of Toyne St - always needed to go when catching a school Rd bus and then having to walk over Crookes to get home! mumsy
