  1. Thanks sooooo much for that info Ruby :thumbsup:
Don't mention it, always glad to help.

You sure about that? It looks like a garden spider to me. They are slow and just tickle a bit if they manage to catch up with you.
Would I lie about something like this, that could be a matter of life or death? *tuts*

  2. And one for you: a sharp tongue is no indication of a sharp mind!
Why come onto a thread and start picking on me personally about a totally unrelated topic? Making uninformed guesses about me and my political affiliations, etc. There's a sticky at the start of every section about invasion of privacy. And we've all seen the mods/admin posting about bickering as well, and yet you can't leave it alone.

Give it a rest, eh? Either discuss the topic, or shut up! Just a suggestion ...

  3. I know that. I often went without new school shoes, trainers for PE or a proper coat for winter because my parents spent all their time and money in the pub.

I had to feed myself most nights as they were out, and that's if there was any food in the house. I missed out on most school trips and basically had to pay my own way from the age of 13 by taking 2 x regular babysitting jobs.

This was 20 years ago, so if it went on then it sure as hell is still going on today.

Please take this in the spirit it's posted, it's said with a good heart. That graphic post has made me feel so sad for the child-you. You must be an exceptional person to have been able to organise yourself as you describe. I know that whatever you've achieved since won't make those early years feel any better when you relive them, and maybe they contain some sad memories, but you're ok now, yes?

Do you think that getting input from an organisation like Save the Children would have made a difference to things? Or would your parents have continued to muddle through and do their own thing and more or less leave you to paddle your own canoe?

  4. The Germans lost, yet they have a better quality of life. They have spacious affordable housing, whereas we have expensive slums.
Would that be because, being the 'victors' we had to help them get back on their feet after the war ended? Because we'd borrowed loads of money from the USA, including a load of worn out old rust buckets they sold us most of which weren't even seaworthy and that cost us money to scrap? Because we only just finished paying them back a few years ago? Because we pay more towards the running of EU in comparison to our size and population than anyone else?

In fact, because collectively the UK has 'MUG' tattooed on its metaphorical forehead?

    Just a thought ... :)

  5. Bit rich coming from you Rubes, if I may say so! You used to be asking why I and others were not banned for arguing forcefully against the right wing loons when I first joined.

Sounds like you've changed tune, but then you are a Lib Dem!

I did? There's a forum saying about 'discuss the post and not the poster'? And another, 'it's better to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to post and remove all doubt' Two maxims you might usefully adhere to in future?

Thanks medusa, so I guess that my post on the London birthrate thread replying to boyfriday's uninformed assumptions was removed because I compared his recent postings to that of another well established troll. Sadly I was not given the further opportunity to disabuse him of his mistaken ideas because although his post remained, mine was deleted and the thread closed by the time I came back from work. My bad, obviously. I'll remember for next time. :)

  6. Some forums have a "flame section" in which members can take their disagreements and really have it out no holds barred.
On here, even if people aren't disagreeing in a bad way, if certain subjects are attempted to be discussed, they disappear.

People spend time looking stuff up, finding links, crafting a line of discussion, bend over backwards to be fair, and come back several hours later to find it's all been deleted.

Everything has to be all pink fluffy bunnikins, all for the best in the best of all possible worlds on this forum.

  7. Whatever woman it were, I don't know

Julie doesn't seem popular in house, it makes me laugh though when their all saying " she playing us... She playing a game " ...of course she is, it is a game

At first, they all fell for her because, of course, all old ladies are sweet and kind and unselfish, aren't they? Even the diva herself, the Queen of Soaps. Harvey and Ashley were even calling her Nanna! So she made a place for herself where it was unthinkable that she would be nominated. Coleen was mourging about with a face like a slapped backside. The two glamour girls were keeping the boys occupied and upsetting them so they were all crying on Nanna Jools shoulder.

Once the younger girls were out, and the clouds of testosterone lifted, they suddenly realised that she was gossiping away behind their backs and taking the mick, and now she's everything that's evil! So amusing.

  8. Yes but then that woman has to be hot doesn't she? That's why they get jealous

I don't know if it's a double eviction though don't think coleen will go

    What woman?

Coleen can't go tonight, she's not been nominated. It's Lorenzo, Martin and Julie tonight. I'm getting to be an expert on CBB, never even watched it before this series, and you can blame Dog the Bounty Hunter for getting me interested

  9. Men aren't that bothered , it's not on us to look good is it

I'll be watching tonights, if I must admit I watched the last three episodes of it

I would say lorenzo going home

Ermmm, it isn't? Well, tis if you want someone worth having :) And if you're not PHAT, better hope that you have an amazing personality :D

Another double eviction, isn't it? I think Julie will stay ... even if only to make Colleen look bad.

  10. She was right about girls being jealous about better looking women though, think girls just don't like to admit it
Aren't men envious of better looking men, taller men, fitter men, sexier men? They may pretend they're not, but it's only human nature.

I was never jealous of other girls when I was young because I had no need to be, but now I think youth is wasted on the young, and, oh yes, I envy them! :D

Although Danica was living proof that you don't need to be pretty to enthrall people. And, imo, if she'd been a little less overt about it, she'd still be in the BB house.

Who's going tonight then? Lorenzo and Martin?

  11. Maybe it was the difference between middle class and working class.

My parents moved out when they got married and bought a bungalow. I believe it worked in pretty much the same way for all my uncles and aunties apart from the one uncle who went to Uni.

A bungalow? Were they already collecting their pensions when they got married? :D

Not so much 'social class' maybe, as a lack of a sense of adventure? It's obviously a safer option to stay cosily at home and be looked after than to strike out for yourself in the big, bad world?

  12. Civil partnership and marriage is the same things in my eyes
Mine too, but then I'm not gay or religious, so it doesn't bother me. Apparently they're not the same thing as you can't plight your troth in the church, mosque or synagogue of your choice if you're not a man and a woman. If they belong to those faiths, they think that's unfair and they should be able to.

To me, provided the legal and financial status is the same, that's the important thing. But as I said, I'm not gay or religious.

  13. Only on general observations and what i have heard.

Anti Christian sentiment is growing, many of them are aware of this and some will avoid any discussion to do with religion, even to the point of denying they believe in God in some circles.

Radical atheism is equally as disturbing as Radical Christianity in my view.

It's noteworthy that as Christianity seems to react to ridicule and disbelief by retreating below the parapet, trying to change itself in line with modern ideas and keeping quiet and still, Islamism reacts by making greater and greater demands for recognition and 'respect', refuses to change one iota and having a hissy fit everytime it perceives that its demands aren't being met.

And as for the old religion - Paganism hardly dares speak its name for fear of being confused with the black arts and satanism.

It's a funny old world! :help:

  14. My wife, and others, have to tape them up if they cannot or don't want to remove them. No exceptions are made for religious beliefs.

Nadia Eweida was allowed to wear her necklace under her clothing where it wouldn't compromise H&S, but this wasn't good enough apparently.

That seems fair enough, provided the rules are applied across the board, without fear or favour. The problems seem to arise when there's cherrypicking from one person to another?

It'll be interesting to see what the results are when the cases have been considered. Hopefully the OP will keep us informed.

  15. Is there a balance? A Christian isn't forced to wear a cross. They can take it off without breaking any religious rules. Equally, a Sikh cannot cut his hair without breaking his religious rules. He has to wear a Turban.

Mandatory religious rules and elective religious behaviour should be considered differently, do you think?

I don't think he HAS to wear a turban, does he? Just not cut his hair and beard. And then there's the dagger and bangles thing ... should we consider health and safety with those as well as a cross and chain?

And then we have to consider the hijaab, niqab and burqa, none of which is mandatory. Cultural, yes, but then so is wearing a cross in some very devout Christian circles.

So, on balance, I think NO, we don't have to consider them differently. We can respect them as a requirement of the person's own conscience but as religion is only a matter of belief and not of fact, they shouldn't really carry that much weight one compared to another.

  16. If we're going to bend over backwards to accommodate some religious groups clothing preferences, dietary requirements, et cetera, we surely have to extend forebearance to all of them?

Have people have just become so used to Christians turning the other cheek, so that we don't have a mini riot everytime they get the hump, the authorities think they can just ride roughshod over their beliefs? If people have serious issues of conscience, about anything, and there are other employees who can do the same job, why insist that someone who is clearly uncomfortable do that particular job?

Is it discrimination? I think it is.

  17. At last, everyone is realising what a horrible old cow she is (oops sorry shouldn't speak about nana like that!!). I hate to see her chewing that gum all the time, there's nothing ladylike about her. Oh yeh, I've just realised, there's NOTHING about her I like. She hasn't got one redeeming feature about her . GET HER OUT! Can't wait for Wednesday hehehe
Make sure you work out the voting before you start ... is it voting to get them out, or keep them in this time? It would be a tragedy if you went about it the wrong way. :hihi:
