  1. Two direct teams? Don’t know enough about Ipswich to comment but one thing United definitely ain’t is direct
  2. Deary me. Talk about spitting the dummy out. It’s a light hearted post making a valid point. Someone needs to get over it and lighten up.
  3. Have to agree with you tbh. Don't like him and don't like the way money has taken over the game. But he is very good at bringing money in and selling a product which is his job. The way that money has been used by the top clubs isn't his fault, that's down to the clubs. All I'm saying is when taking a look at the clubs in the Championship it's a very attractive league to the outside world. It just needs someone to market it and the financial gap between the two leagues could be narrowed a bit.
  4. I'm sure when the Premier League was set up the idea was to see the bigger clubs with tradition fighting it out to make it the most attractive league in the world. Now arguably apart from the obvious such as Man U, Liverpool etc most of the bigger clubs are in the Championship! Literally half the clubs in the Premier League you wouldn't bother opening your bedroom curtains to watch. Spin it all they like but they can't have wanted to see the Premier populated by the likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Swansea and Palace. The Championship should do more to sell itself. It's a fantastic league with some of English footballs biggest names in it. What we need is someone at the top like Scudamore at the Premier to do for us what he's done for them. Won't do it with Sky though, they're only interested in the Premier. It's changing though, Amazon, Apple and others are coming onto the scene.
  5. Upper tier Lane end is probably best. Not too rowdy and best view in ground. If it's real peace and quiet you're after though you'll be better off at hiilsborough. Probably be able to take a nap there without being disturbed too much.
  6. You've contradicted yourself a bit there. Leeds / Newcastle have undivided support but could hardly be called footballing powerhouses so why would you think a one club Sheffield would be competing with Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal?
  7. Always brings a wry smile to my face when that lot brings this up, gets bigger every single year. To know what it must mean to them to have soundly beaten one of the worst teams in our history, to still be harping on about it 35 years later and counting... Well let's just say the other way around and we'd have forgotten about it within a couple of years. The day you see United celebrating a big victory over that lot with anniversary dinners and walls of fame will be the day I realise just how small time we've become..
  8. Well if we're going to be accurate it's 18 times up till the end of last season. But hey, no harm in a little adjustment when it suits eh?
  9. Yes it has dropped from the Premiership season as only to be expected. But It's massively increased from the few seasons before that which can't be denied. But we've just been relegated to the 3rd tier with an average attendance of over 20'000. That wouldn't have happened not so long ago. I'm at work and haven't the time to look at the figures and go into detail but I stand by what I said. United's core support has increased, Wednesday's has decreased. Even you don't seem to argue that your core support has decreased over recent seasons. Easy to lose, difficult to get back.
  10. I think what most Wednesdayites don't seem to get is that what the historical figures say is irrelevant. Imo and most Blades I think, United's support has caught up and overtaken that of Wednesday. What Wednesday fans did in the 50's, 60's, 70's etc has no relevance to today. United's core support has increased, of that there is no doubt. At the same time Wednesday's has decreased. This isn't an opinion, the figures actually back it up, it's fact. The question is, will Wednesday's support ever return to what it was, and will United hold onto their newer support ?
  11. On the Football League show the other night they did a piece about how they are changing the rules restricting the distance Premier League clubs can sign prospects from, having certain criteria for academies and the amount of compensation they have to pay. I can't remember the exact details but suffice to say they're trying to screw the smaller clubs over and if they get their way it will have serious repercussions for all our local clubs.
  12. £25m?????....Bloody 'ell that's an impressive figure! Any chance telling us where you've got that figure from or who's going to pay it?
  13. I'm amazed we keep hearing the same old scaremongering from ill-informed Owls about United's debt. Kevin McCabe has stated publicly that he has all but written monies owed to him by United unless an "Abramovich type figure" comes along in which case then of course he'd like his money back. Kevin McCabe has also stated publicly that he has not taken one penny back from United, in interest payments or actual repayments. The majority of our debt is against the hotel, which pays for itself through the lease with Copthorne and other similar revenue creating assets such as the Blades Enterprise Centre. The difference between the two clubs is massive, we have revenue creating assets to which we have invested significant amounts of money, and Wednesday have nothing but the value of the stadium which is on a flood plain and a training ground that can't be sold.
  14. Spot on and something I've asked on Bladesmad a while ago. He's never had the money and had no realistic plan of funding any redevelopment of Hillsborough. One thing I read time and time again on Owlstalk and other forums is how they are awaiting grants to develop their ground despite a pre-requisite of the bid being that any developments required would be self funded. Can any Owls fan provide a link from the WC team or government that says grants would be given, not just Strafford saying he was hopefull of getting a grant from the education dept. to build a classroom under one of the stands?
  15. "Unitedites obessed with Wednesdays failings" More like Wednesdayites are obsessed about Unitedites being obsessed with Wednesdays failings! :hihi:
  16. No he can't back them up, it's just wishful thinking.
  17. It comes across like your trying to be clever but if I'm wrong I apologise.
  18. Please explain how this is lining his pockets? This proposed development is in United's name. The financial structure of the development will be paid for in the long run by United as is the hotel, enterprise centres, gyms etc. and it is the club who will benefit. The only way McCabe will benefit is if someone comes in with mega millions to invest and he then gets any financial outlay back. If that happens then good for him and brilliant for us I was at the forum where he stated he doesn't expect that to happen ie. he doesn't expect to get his money back. Yet he still continues to back us.... Neither has McCabe been paid a penny on his loans to the club in interest although he could have taken payment if he wished. Trevor Birch confirmed this at the forum. Despite what you wish Corkers, United have the set up and leadership you Wednesdayites can only dream off but unfortunately for you Cloud 9 is the only change on the horizon.
  19. Corkers, laugh all you like mate but nothing disguises the fact it's United who have the proactive board who look to the future and try to make us a club who can compete at a level above our fanbase. Seriously what have Wednesday got outside the normal matchday income and the odd function? No need to answer mate we already know the answer and we all know which of our two clubs has the most promising future.
  20. No we don't think Bramall Lane will make a nice venue for a World Cup training ground...it's a football stadium. However we do possess a state of the art training ground at Shirecliffe that is far superior to any other in South Yorkshire and the sort which Wednesday could only dream of. Unfortunately I understand it's scheduled for refurb in 2018 and won't be available to bail out Wednesday, the city council or the World Cup committee.
  21. As i understand it these aren't built for students, and it's Sheffield United's enterprise not Kevin McCabes. ie it's United who will profit but with thanks to Kevin McCabe.
  22. At this time of year I'm always optimistic... United - champions, Wednesday - mid-table. More realistically though... United - 2nd, Wednesday - relegated.
  23. Actually I thought twice about including Old Trafford. I do think our stadiums are largely uninspiring though and I can't really see them having the WOW factor that you get when look at them (South Africas)compared to ours. Put it this way we're all biased when it comes to our own stadiums but I can't picture the foreign fans jaws dropping when they look at Plymouth and MK Dons grounds for instance. That's why I think the bid is doomed to failure.
  24. Oh dear oh dear. Typical responses from typical Wednesday fans. I respond to them giving reasons why Bramall Lane is the better ground and all I get is childish responses with nothing to back up their argument. ukdobby: Is that where you keep your trophies? Actually dobby it is full of info and photographs, some actual trophies and some replicas. Not to mention loads of interesting artifacts, strips and video footage etc from the stadium and clubs long history. But I'm afraid none of the actual 4 FA Cups or the League Championship trophy we've won is there. Who knows, one day your club may have two pennies to rub together and a forward thinking board like ours. Then you might have your own museum, instead of having to make do with Hillsborough itself. Corkers: Ive read some rubbish on here in my time but i think this post takes the biscuit, what a load of balls. How can you even judge, even you have admitted you havent sat on these stands at Hillsborough ??? Very disappointed mate. I've read quite a lot of your posts on here and always had you down as one of the more balanced and intelligent posters. Yet you don't even give me the courtesy of reading what I said properly. I've been in both your South and North stand since 2006. It is years since I went on your kop and I couldn't tell you the date. I also have been behind the scenes on your South Stand and know it pretty well. Neither Dooleys restaurant or the function room below compare to what's on offer in our South stand. I at least admit it's years since I've been on your kop. How about you telling us when you actually went in any of our stands including the Lane end? scoobydotcom: so what your saying is your refreshment stands are better than ours and thats about it ... wow, i AM shocked they chose Hillsborough instead of Bramall Lane also remember the decision isnt just on the ground - fan park and transport issues are very important also, and you hve no chance being located where you are ... p.s i used to work for lindley catering when they had the contract for the concourse beer/bars and food bars for what its worth I'm not sure what criteria you use to base your assertion that Hillsborough is the better stadium. I've listed some of what I think should be taken into account, Instead of just shooting me down try to give me valid reasons why you think Hillsborough is better, stand by stand. It's not good enough just to say "it is" I know this thread is about United questioning the councils influence in the World Cup decision but we're talking about the stadiums, not the park next door or the locations. Also not sure what you working for Lindley Catering has to do with anything unless this means your view on the relative merits of each ground is superior to mine. AltyOwl: You clearly haven't been in Hillsborough's South Stand then I've been on that and the North since 2006. I've also attended 2 functions in the room below Dooleys. I've seen inside Dooleys but not eaten there. Neither compare with ANY of the restaurants on offer at the Lane as regards decor. I've also seen behind the scenes on the South Stand but not since the floods. ThatYank: Perhaps a big viewing screen can be brought into the Lane? It may be 2nd hand but at least we've got one mate. Not to mention a four star hotel. There you you go, bet you were waiting for that one! So there you all have my reasoned arguments why I believe Bramall Lane to be the better ground. Let's hear yours why you think Hillsborough is better and not just blindly saying it because it's Hillsborough and your Owls.
