  1. The one at Tyzack Sons & Turner was early 80s. Security guard was in on it. He was pretending to be concussed but wasn't showing any signs that he was. Not long after we were paid directly into the bank.
  2. Sorry to hear that. Sunk a few in the Crown with him back in the day.
  3. Blues/rock covers band are looking for another guitarist. We are all into playing pubs and blues clubs. All covers, Joe Jackson, Johnny Cash, Bad Company, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Warren Xevon, Creedance Clearwater Revival etc. Auditions to be held over next few weeks.

  5. Cheers Reesh mate. It is a proper pub and fine ales too.
  6. lEy up Dogsneck there was a Stuart who looked like Rod Stewart who was a mechanic. Are you having a pre match beer on Saturday? If so, where? WAWAW?
  7. I do remember him telling us that he once saw a village idiot stop an Aberdeen Angus with a pitchfork. We all sat biting our lips as he told the story not daring to laugh. He certainly was one of life's characters. Although we were highly amused we had enough respect not laugh until he went to the bar or wherever. Not sure he would get that sort of "respect" in there today. Yes it certainly is a dump these days. Some right filth in now, not sure Mrs J would have tolerated them. Something else has just come to me.....the smell of the bakery baking the next day's bread. Do you remember that?
  8. Crookesey, you couldn't make that up could you? Mrs Jenkins said he was from a wealthy family. Also remember glass collectors in white jackets, they looked very smart.
  9. I started going in in 1978 as a young looking 16 year old. Only famous person I saw was Roger Greenwood off Calendar. Also remember Victor who was a harmless eccentric who used to ramble on much to our juvenile amusement. btw Mrs Jenkins thought I was 18 from 1978 until middle of 1981 when I became 19. lol Bless her.
  10. Hi Crookesey, not sure if I do or don't. Only went in a couple of times. Was it through a conservatory or a lean to? I do recall the Home Ales being foul and therefore Mrs Jenkins's Stones was the preferable option. I remember the Prince of Wales around the back of The Pomona being demolished, I never went in but it was on TV in the mid 70s in "I Didnt Know You Cared" I think it was called. God do feel old now ;-)
  11. Just to add a few more pubs, New Inn near to the Devonshire, the Earl Grey across the road and the old Pomona where the car sales place is.
  12. A lead guitarist is required for an Elvis Presley tribute concert. This is a one off charity show, but if it proves to be successful we will carry it on. Candidates must be able to either play or be able to pick the Elvis songs up quickly. We have a very good Elvis along with rhythm guitar, bass and drums. Concert is in March. Age and sex immaterial. PM if interested.
  13. Saw Ernie a few months ago. See Martyn occasionally. I remember Pat Mawkes if she was Joe's wife. He was in the toolroom, he retired just after I started. Remember Pat and Sid Gregory, Peter Woodhead, Trevor Elshaw. Also some of the names you mention are familiar, but cannot put faces to them. Also remember Barry Bower, Ernest Morton, Ron Cocksedge, Dave Ferris to mention a few. Also George Lotka the welder. He was a character!!!
