Sheffield City Centre MasterPlan Exhibition..WOW!
mrplodge replied to Clown Shoes's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Hammersons are taking the p..s. They need to be given an ultimatum or they will just come out with the usual spin. We will start in 2014, then they delay whilst announcing projects in other cities. They should be shown the door -
Issues in Page Hall/Firth Park
mrplodge replied to Alihussain's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Consequences, thats the answer. People talk about posh areas getting much more attention, thats absolute drivel. The council do not do private gardens, just look at the difference in different areas. Cultural no pride, this is multicultural Britain at its worse. Fine them every day. You cant say what you think because the politically correct d--k heads will be out in force. Its always community this blah blah blah round there, we are all people and equal and as such enforce the f in law and stuff the community (police scared as racist card etc). Just enforce the law. Teenagers have got nothing to do so youth workers etc are apologists for behaviour decent people if they had nothing to do would not smash bus shelters etc. Gangs of youths round there intimidate people. -
Not at lodge moor as far as i can see, not even one in sheffield

A handrail is broken and a park is a dump. Get real, if there is a safety issue i am sure it will be repaired as it seems no one can take responsibility for their own actions and its a claim waiting to happen

Plenty of loons on here Loon = A crazy person On a serious note just go to the bank and ask

Has Riverlin down Hillsborough reopened their pools?
mrplodge replied to sarahjh25's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Until we have a society that has people that take responsibility for their own actions we will have few such places. Its always someone elses fault and so councils etc are scared to provide owt. The money grabbing brainless t...s really get on my wick. I accept serious events occur through negligence but most are just trying to blame someone else. -
Sheffield half marathon place 2013
mrplodge replied to georgiawill's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
What do you advise moving it to New york. Its a run not a sight seeing tour -
Just keeping normal services and say making the last one in the first instance 30 minutes later would be the best way to do it. Any routes with zero patronage could be stopped. Popular routes add another 30 minutes later and so on

Margaret Thatchers Funeral 17th April 2013
mrplodge replied to rossyrooney's topic in General Discussions
Unfortunately no matter which side you are on the press coverage is not good for this area, sotherners in the most part showing respect. Goldthorpe and other areas showing complete disrespect, who in their right mind would set up a business there. I realise people lost their jobs but pure economics actually dictated the closures and maybe thatcher just speeded up their decline. If no thatcher do people actually believe all these mining communities would now be thriving. Easy for me to say yes but people have a blame mentality and put all their energies into things they cant change. I can waste all my days moaning about the weather but i cant change it. I am actually totally embarrassed by the actions of these people celebrating a funeral. I cannot envisage any situation for anyone where i would celebrate a funeral, maybe i hate someone, maybe i wish them dead but actually celebrating no. Each to their own but these are my views and people can harp on about loss of communities blah blah blah but as mentioned previously if all their energies were put on trying to move on rather than this hatred the world would be a better place. In every walk of life s--- happens its how you deal with it that matters. Yes people are right what would i do if my industry disappeared, i could spend thirty years blaming the government or try to move on. It may be i cant move on and my life goes down the pan but moping for years and years would serve no purpose no purpose. I am glad i am getting on a bit now as the sickness of society makes me glad i wont be here to see this mentality getting worse -
Proposed changes to parking times
mrplodge replied to alchemist's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I realise there are restaurants pubs etc and i know i have no idea the cost of enforcement and what the income will be. What i do know is that in tough economic times you dont do this. Time will tell but i am confident that this policy will backfire big time. I go to town every week at least once, this will deter me if i cant even park on single yellows. I will vote with my feet and many others will too. The sunday charge is a farce and comical 8.00 o clock sheffield city centre will be dead except for enforcement officers. Its meadowhall for me from now on thats at least 20 visits a year gone. Its a laughable money making scheme but hello it will in my opinion not make money. A vibrant city yes but a dead one oh dear. Capture your audience then charge not before -
Proposed changes to parking times
mrplodge replied to alchemist's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
This is absolutely ridiculous 8 till 8.30 7 days a week and also on single yellows. i went to town Sunday absolutely dead. If it is to generate cash it is the most laughable ill conceived plan i have ever known. The cost to enforce will be greater than the income. It beggars belief the idiots we have in charge. I usually support the council but this will back fire so obviously that sheffield is now closed for business. I am all for the redevelopments etc but charge when we have something to charge for not empty shops. i am absolutely amazed at this councils lack of sense. Meadowhall is laughing. ---------- Post added 15-04-2013 at 19:42 ---------- Prices may be reduced slightly per hour but even the most dim witted idiot would know this will be as successful as using a chocolate tea pot. Shops shut at 5.30 but lets pay till 8.30. I realise other cities do it but thats no reason to do it. Be innovative try something different but dont drive the business away -
City centre arenas = Nightmare. Loads of parking within easy walking distance of sheffield arena and all free. People make up issues when there isnt any problem. City centre arenas clearly have all parking places nearby but its a hassle getting there. A city centre arena for sheffield is no good because we have no car parks according to people on here. People are lazy and thats the main issue, walking 200 yards would kill most people

People using mobiles while paying for their shopping
mrplodge replied to fairyworld14's topic in General Discussions
Its ignorant pure and simple, if you receive a call, apologise and continue with one or the other. People getting on buses also do it, they do not realise how ignorant they are. It could be urgent calls but not being funny but this is rare. Ring back or place on hold. The only saving grace is these people also do it whilst crossing the road and their constant urgent calls result in them not seeing that lorry but their call was urgent so worth getting squashed. -
Barnsley or sheffield best for a night out?
mrplodge replied to Alfie Thomas's topic in Going out in Sheffield
Barnsley is very lively and all pubs close together, pubs are really just as close in sheffield but there is much more variety in types of bars so i do tend to walk bigger distances between bars i.e players, cavendish ect just too young for my taste. Ecclesall rd is very good and lots of variety including restaurants etc. Quite a walk between pubs but much more pleasant i find. I am much older but i can go in most pubs but the ones most suited are probably maggie mays, bessemer and leoplold square, west street live for live bands. West street or division street very busy so you can pick and choose. If you like real ale a bit out of town fat cat and kelham island. In my opinion barnsley just has full pubs in a small area so for some thats all they want so good, i prefer to be able to get to the bar easily -

Proposed changes to parking times
mrplodge replied to alchemist's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Nottingham parking is certainly not cheap in general and extends to 8pm on street. I do not agree with extending to 8.30 in sheffield in fact i think its an ill thought out plan that just copies other cities. Nottingham 6 to 8 pm is an extra quid so sheffield may do similar. I generally try not to pay for parking unless a quid or so. I do this by walking a short distance. There are ways of making parking cheap for all if all operators get together, more customers equals more revenue for the council. Rents on shops based on their profits etc, so not doing so well they wouldnt need to shut. I realise this may not work because rental income would vary but we need to totally revise our thinking. -
Not opening till the autumn i think

Sheftival £180k loss fiasco
mrplodge replied to E-Man Groovin's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Oh hindsight what wonderful clever people you all are. A festival was put on with the intention of celebrating the olympics, not a bad idea but not enough people turned up, so it lost money. If we all had the attitude as on here why would any event ever be put on. So basically if it had made money there would be no outcry. People are just so judgemental after the event. Lets just have no events and go watch the tele, at least an effort is made. The loss is not £180K clearly but its good way to attack the council (Its SIV but not sure how that ties in with the council). -
Advice needed. Going to Manchester airport
mrplodge replied to homyachok's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Woodhead 628 and snake not recommended in this weather. Stick to motorway, much further but put safety first -
I bet the gritters get fed up of these comments. Even if you grit the roads it takes a while to bed the grit in, this also needs cars and sat morning in this weather there are few. All main roads have been gritted

3 people looking after 345 children, not sure this is even legal but ok lets say you do it. You do it with no snow but cant do it in snow. Keep the children inside, anything that happens outside is life, do you live in fear of snow. I have never heard such a pile of drivel. Where do the kids go if not school, out playing in the snow. Health and safety Blah Blah Blah, most is urban myth. Yes I could in answer to your question and probably a lot better than you. Parents leave kids home alone because they have to work and do not quote lame health and safety drivel.

All schools should have been open in Sheffield (maybe a few exceptions). Ok some areas may have had a bit of snow but I travelled to Nottingham and back no trouble. Ok later in the day (teatime i.e after schools close it got worse). To me this is a disgrace, I couldn't believe it on the way to work as I heard Eckington School closed. Lets all live by the schools rules, lets shut offices, shops, hospitals etc. Safety issues blah blah blah the world has gone mad and it does nothing for teachers reputations in my view, it makes them a laughing stock in my view, ok its the headteachers decision but zero effort is made. I woke up this morning deep snow but I will still get to where I want to be, I may fall over, I may crash, I may get hit by a train, I may freeze to death but I will still go and not blame my destination. Why should my taxes pay for people to sit on their idle backsides, yes not their decision maybe but I look forward to the day when my boss tells me not to come in because of the snow but you will get a full days pay.

Does Sheffield need to become car-friendly?
mrplodge replied to Green Web's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Anyone who cant get to anywhere in sheffield city centre easily is clearly not a driver. Its an absolute doddle. Manchester, leeds, nottingham I could go on are much worse in my opinion. I just cannot understand the difficulties people have unless of course we are talking being able to park five yards from your destination. Please give examples of where is difficult to get to. If the excuses are re traffic jams please name a big city that doesnt have problems, did someone say it was easy to drive in central london in comparison. Sheffield is easily accessible and has a few roads you cant go down, many car parks as well. The city is car friendly, I just dont understand where people have difficulty but will await response.
