  1. Ok, just inherited a working PC, but the copy of Windows on it doesn't pass Windows Genuine Validation, apparently the key is invalid (my guess is it's got a dodgy copy of XP on it!). So to remedy this, I want to install my GENUINE COPY of XP Pro on it instead. Set Bios up to run from CD Rom first, ok, no problem there, it installs certain files, before it (tries) to install XP. When it comes to actually installing it I get a message on screen saying "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer" blah blah you may need to run your manufacturers diagnostics disc blah blah." Now, I know there is a hard drive in there, and I know it works cos its already got (dodgy!) XP on it, am i missing something in Bios? The hard drive is sata, would this make a difference? I want to totally format the H/D but its saying it cant find it. HELP!!!! :help:
  2. I have no idea what size the h/d is or about the ram, I never knew these things, and now the mobo is burnt out, I cant find out. Sorry I've googled the Model, its a DV1588EA Model, and these are the specs: The configuration HP provides comes with a 1.73GHz Intel Pentium M 740 n/a Ultra ATA/100 USB/PCMCIA 160.0 GB Windows XP Home, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, 14.0 128 MB DDR (shared) 128 MB DDR (Shared). This HP Laptop can take up to 2.0 GB ram, with a fixed amount of 1.0 GB = 512 MB (removable) + 512 MB (removable) installed PC2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs. Unless its been upgraded, which I dont think it has, I would imagine these specs would still stand. Hope this info helps!
  3. HP Pavilion 1000 Notebook, fantastic screen, keypad, hard drive, ram, dvd drive battery, charger, BRAND NEW spare battery, just motherboard is no good, so upset as I cant have it repaired Looking for £40 for the lot
  4. Oh well, it's dead. Too much damage to be repaired, thanks to a screw that shorted it out, and thanks to Gosh @ B.I.T aka Mozalan-see above post) who took a look at it Well, looks like its worth nowt but a few salvageable parts. Anyone interested?? Have got a few photo's if anyone wants to look at the damage done, courtesy, again of B.I.T, really nice guy, if you ever have any pc/laptop problems, he's your guy
  5. From the rear, near the power connection, am uploading a photo to show you....... "SMOKING NOTEBOOK!!
  6. As in the title, just want someone to have a look at it for me, so I can decide wether its worth having fixed or not. Was re-installing Windows, when there was a horrible smell of something burning, and smoking, then it went off, think something has burned out inside, but I dont want to take it to pieces in case I **** it up even more. Anyone want to take it away, have a look at whats wrong, and if it can be repaired, give me a quote?
  7. Oh and I've ran Windows updates and none are needed, I have all the latest drivers too, so any other helpful advice will be greatly appreciated!
  8. Hi, wondering if anyone can offer some advice. Looking to replace my ram, my pc keeps locking up for no apparent reason, its a brand new mobo, cpu and ram, so hoping replacing the ram might cure the problem. Dont know why but I just believe it is, according to Vista, (which I couldnt install, I got a ram error, but cant remember what it said!) so still running XP Pro My mobo only supports DDR2 800, 1060 OR SOMET?? Its an Asrock N68C-S an it says Phenom II, AM2/AM3 , I believe it supports AM3 CPU's which would run DDR3, but its only an AM2 CPU. Anyone any ideas? If anyone has any ram, (looking at 2x2 Gig sticks) DDR2, 800Mhz or anyother that will work with this Mobo,if anyone has any, drop me a pm with a price
  9. Hi all, I'm not a Wednesday or United supporter, so I cant understand why MM did what he did, only to quote this- "Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed Chris Evans and Neil Thompson will take charge of first-team affairs following the sacking of Gary Megson. Megson was dismissed by chairman Milan Mandaric on Wednesday night, despite guiding his team to third in League One and delivering a vital win over Steel City rivals United on Sunday. However, Mandaric felt the Owls' promotion push would be better suited with a new manager at the helm, with Dave Jones and Paul Ince the reported favourites to take over. A statement read: "Sheffield Wednesday can confirm that assistant manager Chris Evans and first-team coach Neil Thompson will oversee first-team affairs until the appointment of a new manager." The Owls are expected to have a new man in place before Saturday's trip to Rochdale. SINCE WHEN?? Mandaric insists sacking Megson was the "best decision for the supporters". "It was very a hard decision but it was the best decision for our supporters," he said. "It was not done for me or for anyone else, it was done for the best of the club." "We are trying very hard and hopefully we can announce the new manager in the next 24 hours," Mandaric added. "It was always our objective to get out of this league and we have fallen down lately and whoever comes here will have to get us out of this league." I would have thought that leaving Megson in charge would have been the way out / forward. Perhaps I'm wrong and I know Sweet Fa n ny Adams about football, but thats my opinion. Most Owls fans would say he was wrong in sacking him, wouldn't they? A win over your local rivals, up into a promotion play off place, thats rather good I think, no reason to get rid, unless somet has gone off behind the scenes we ordinary folk no nowt about?
  10. Yep, I agree with all other posts, your bank would never ask for any user names, passwords or log-in details in an email, just dont bother with them, simply forward it onto your bank and delete it. If you do think its real (yeah, ok!) just simply close your browser and type in the url of your bank yourself and login from there, bet you wont have any problems logging onto your account! I'm with the HSBC, and they use Rapport, it protects my details and if I DO try logging onto a dodgy bank website from an email, it warns me and blocks me from doing so. Pretty good!! JUST A WARNING TO EVERYONE, BUT I THINK MOST OF US KNOW NOT TO!!
  11. Slightly off topic. but on the same wavelength (sort of) "Series 4 of Torchwood known as Miracle Day, originally subtitled The New World is a 10-part serialized series of Torchwood scheduled for broadcast in summer 2011. It is being written by Russell T Davies and produced by BBC Wales and Starz Entertainment. It will star John Barrowman as Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper with new characters Mekhi Phifer as Rex Matheson, Alexa Havins as Esther Drummond, Bill Pullman as Oswald Danes and Arlene Tur as Dr. Vera Juarez. It will be set partially in Wales and the United States of America. The series covers an arc in which death ceases to exist on Earth."
  12. I was with my previous insurer for 3 yrs, was paying around £43 per month, fully comp, 1999 V Renault Megane Scenic (1.6) RXE, inever claimed, when it came upto renewal time end of Oct, it went up to almost £1300!!! Did a search, found Tesco was cheaper, and I get free windscreen cover, protected NC, and free breakdown recovery, for not much more than I was paying last year!
  13. AHHHH, yeah I went to Springfield Infants and Juniors, cant remember much about the Infants, only I think Mrs Lydamore was the Headmistress then, Mr Carter was the Headmaster in the Juniors. Mrs Kay was nice, but I had both Mrs Raw AND Mr Minihan as teachers, ooh, and the way Mr Minihan used to clap his hands together and rub them (like it was cold!!) Scary times!! That was back in the late 70's before I went up into Silverdale. Wasn't Mr Warehams car an MGB GT, in blue iirc?? very nice car!!
  14. yeah, buts its 5 miles UPHILL on the way back!! lol
  15. The cars stayin on the drive, the buses are cancelled, but the tram is still running, I think!!
  16. I work in Meadowhall, on nights, and I will attempt to get in tonight!!
  17. Not exactly the city centre, but I know Poundland- Meadowhall, on the stationery section. you could try the one on the moor though.
  18. Oh yes, can agree with that. We were going to order from Ruby's near Kwik Fit on City Rd, 4 main meals for £11, but its closed?? Decided to order from Happy House instead. (Got it delivered, for a quid more, you only think I'm walking up in the rain!!) Had sweet and sour sauce with chicken balls very nice if i do say so, and i'm not a big fan of sweet and sour, I had the Mixed Meat in Hot Spicy, and boy, was it HOT!! If you like hot, rather than spicy hot, this is GORGEOUS!! Phoned up at about 11:15 pm, and it was here by half past!! Still piping hot. Also had 2 portions of egg fried rice and a curry sauce, including delivery-£13, fantastic service, quick delivery and gorgeous food. Comes highly reccommended from someone who used to work in a chinese takeaway a few years ago (me). Try them if you fancy delicious chinese food, you wont be disappointed!!
  19. My renewal has just come through, last year it was around £43 per month, (40yr old, 1999 Megane Scenic, 4 yrs no claims), this year its ALMOST TREBLED!!!! They want £1144. Hmm, I dont think so, sonny Jim. Been to Tesco Insurance, got it for about the same as I was paying last year, but with Protected No Claims, windscreen cover and a few more bits included. Like they say.... Every little (DOES) help!!! Flaming rip offs.
