  1. good point about pay pals from jasonhollins-but you can wait months to settle a dispute and can cost you in things like avidavids and copying costs/postage --and they only want you to answer the questions they have listed , can be very frustrating
  2. I have used gumtree and also another site called Pre loved, both are very good sites and can be made local by using your post code but the adverts do go nationwide by the responses- I have had---------forum should be good if it wasnt for turkeys offering stupid fake bids on something they have have no intention of buying --lost count of bozos who have never turned up,these peope sabatarge a good way of selling----when I buy anything I do it with the full intention of paying the asking price --when I have then seen it ,I may have a re-think about the value of the article but up to now this has not occured
  3. yeh --I thought somebody could remember--just how old can they be
  4. I was at the side of a new super duper refuge lorry the other day, that boastfully displayed it ran on electricity-----if my memory does not faulter on me ,I am sure we had electric bin wagons over sixty years ago in Sheffield-painted a yellowish/cream colour, any old bod remember them as well?-----I also think British Rail had electric lorries---and we have had milk floats for donkeys years---
  5. Used to go to a shop in Barnsley who charged you a pound if you wanted a receipt to claim back money from your firm----on another point slightly related, how many people get a statement every year from their bank/BS, I know Cheshire BS dont
  6. Hi helhol--I have had 2 incidents with e-bay and pay-pals--which both came out in my favour, although it did take several months to get my money back for an set of fake golf clubs, and the other when I bought a brand new putter which was not suited to me so I readvertised it and was accused of selling a fake item by the buyer and also of sending a damaged item-the buyer said he was a copper and would get some of his mates to sort me out (he lived in Glasgow!)-----------------all I can say is to notify e-bay /Paypals with your side of the story also check the buyers history of buying in their feedback records to see if they dabble in phones or any items that may show they use e-bay for certain items that may be moved on quite easily------best of luck
  7. saw Uncle Rotters Pigmeat band in the 70s at Woodseats WMC--all original material ,which takes a lot of nerve in a club ,but also got the sound mix perfect with all instuments balanced along with the singer--------------------another good group were Grantham Street Life--about 8 piece outfit with brass who played Chigargo/BST,s type of music-----------------------If you are ever out Lincoln way check out Soul Solution---coolest frontman I have ever seen,----they have a website but I dont know how to put a link up, it has about 10 songs on it-cheers to all
  8. had both tri-ang and hornby----or should I say my Dad did--I think there was another make in the 50s called Trix may have been German---best thing about model railways was when track was available in metre lenghs made layouts a lot more flexible---my Dad made layout along length of our prefab, which was hinged to fold down---used to trawl round town ,looking in Wilson Gumpets, another shop behind WG on a lane off union st, Woods on High st then later Redgates---then there were 3 proper old swop shops down Attercliffe who always had model railways in to peer through the steel meshed windows----childhood remembered
  9. google earth shows quite a few ponds if taken at the right time
  10. The flooring I laid was quite expensive--and it said when laying it that it could be lifted up to 3 times------the knack is to get the first one up and hope no damage is done----if you can remember which planks were put in last then start with them---the bigger the area the easier they lift-----I did some last week which was on a staircase with 3 doors and running under skirting boards with pipework etc--it was such a bind that I replaced them with carpet tiles that could be lifted to get to trap doors--best of luck
  11. james burton--played with jery lee lewis when 15 years old played with elvis ,everly bros-ricky nelson--------------------------------------also listen to jerry donahue on u-tube and phil donelly from dublin
  12. the best thing about Birley bowling alley is that it did not shut at 10,o.clock--like most places then, including pubs in sheffield area----remember 2 redheads who worked on counter----used to drink about 9 coffees each time we went---
  13. yes went there with my mom seem to remember all books had blue covers made from thick paper like old sugarbags--cheers
  14. I understand that a reunion dance is being held at the Embassy ballroom this Saturday night --cant go myself due to wife being in hospital, but would like to hear from anyone who is going/or went to let me know how it went down-----great nights out on Tuesdays and Saturdays with some great groups---also dances at Co-Op and St Cyprians and a pint at half time at the Birley--who also had host of groups with none of the £40 a ticket that now some turns demand at larger venues for a light show
