  1. My dad worked at hadfields in the garage he passed away in 1992 with lung cancer. When he was first diagnosed with cancer he asked the doctors if it was anything to do with him working with asbestos which he came into contact with all the time but they would'nt say if that was the cause. When he worked at Hadfields they had to have an x ray every year and i remember him saying they found a shadow on his lung and said he must have had pneumonia at some stage my dad thought this might have been the cancer starting the hospital gave him one year to live and he lasted one year after suffering a great deal of pain.We heard later that a couple more men from out of the garage died of cancer too all my dad wanted to know before he died was could it have been working in those conditions with the asbestos that caused his cancer hope this helps you.

  11. Thanks Tripitaka looks like it was the same people who scammed us he chucked the gold chain on my knee and he showed me a card in his wallet with a picture on it plus as I said he was in a BMW looks like they are doing the rounds he looked so convincing at least we did'nt give him a lot of money but I still feel a fool for being taken in.
  12. Thanks for all the positive feedback we stopped to help this man as we thought we were doing a good turn as for the chain we did'nt exept it for the value its just that the man said have that in return for the some money for some deisel. I knew it was not going to be worth anything because of the weight and it just had 18k stamped on the clasp I actually felt sorry for the man at a closer look the chain is just gold plated because a couple of the links were discoloured. If someone else flagged us down I would just be a little bit more carefull but we would still help if we had'nt been on the slip road we would have gone to the petrol station and fetched him some deisel
  13. On our way to meadowhall going down the slip road onto the motorway from Chapeltown a smartly dressed man flagged us down he had the bonnet up on his BMW so we stopped to see what he wanted he asked if we speaked deutch or french we said no he said he only spoke a little english as he was german he said he had ran out of diesel and had no money on him only a visa card and that was'nt working he threw a gold chain on my knee and said could we give him some money in exchange for the chain alarm bells rang at first because looking at the chain there was no proper stamp on it but he sounded honest enough and he said he had to get to london my partner only had £20 on him so he said he would have that. I knew when we had gone on our way that we had been had by this man so if you are waved to by a well dressed man don't stop. we are left with a cheap piece of tat and a dent in our pride.
  14. Our car was a 2001 ford fiesta, the lady from the hire car company came to collect us in a brand new fiesta so assumed this would be our hire car. When we got to the branch we were given a Hyundai i10 instead.
  15. Yes as this all happened last March everything was sorted the car was deemed a right off and we got paid out for this so by April of last year we thought it was all settled which is when we returned the hire car so after a year it is still ongoing I am waiting to hear if I get any more phone calls in the next week thanks.
