  2. Sportman still going and kept afloat by Blades trade - but where's the Golden Lion belperite ??
  3. Hey dont hold yer breath - the council still havnt got around to sorting out the Old Town Hall ( lovely old building opposite Castle Market) and thats been shut up since 1880 !! lol
  4. Natjack - er ----- dont remember any socialists ( champagne or otherwise !) doing promos for major hotel chains ?? Please view this link and view a real man of the people relaxing with his free booze ! lol
  5. Well its had a good inings as home to one of the best Art Colleges in the country - even Nick Parks originator of Wallace and Grommitt was educated there! Then the powers that be decided to knock down the Art College ( built around the Blue Coats School in the erly 50's) and pack it off to Ponds St where its been absorbed into Hallam without trace - BUT the good news is that the old Bluecoats School building is still standing and waiting for iresidential nvestment . It looks very grand on the hill - but sadly the lawns have gone.Sorry Blitzer!
  6. The food/beers at The Rutland Brown St is great and they've got a great upstairs room !
  7. Really bad for kids - poorest air qualiity in Europe due to Meadowhall/ Tinsley junction. Very high asthma rate in kids - one of Sheffields lbest kept secrets . My grandaughter lived there and had a permanent chest problems - which all cleared up when she moved !
  8. Perhaps it could be sponsored by St Pauls after all Cllr Scriven takes it on the couch for them ,,,,,,check it out ! ( its called political suicide)
  9. Looks like GMFis another Made in Sheffield offer -Whoknows whatt??
  10. Sheffield exchange tween my granparents . Nana dashing about in the kitchen getting Sunday Diner on the table for the hordes''' Grandad.... ' Calm down woman... tha's rushing abaht like a fart in a culinder.. Granma ....' Aye and tha's one that got out t'oil!'
  11. Cabal are the promoters to watch - including this Saturday !
  12. My grandmother ran with her son my father to the Brickyards at Darnall overlooking Attercliffe she wrapped the baby in her skirts to protect him and watched the airship drift down the Attercliffe corridor ,
  13. Allright Sharp87 -Cricketers now sadly closed down - big notice in the window to say they're lookin to turn it into flats or reheasal studios ( better plan) It was a gcracking litle venue too - and had some great gigs in there before it closed . I think it could still be a goldmine !!! Karl Nosek - one time punk promoter - now runs The Riverside Mowbray St - good to see some young uns keeping up the standards !
  14. Bluecoat Schools were a national movement - I believe for boys of poorer backgrounds - they were created to give them an education and viable trade- to set them up for life . Bluecoat Schools also existed in Liverpool , Manchester and Birmingham. Thank God the building on Psalter Lane was listed and hasnt been knocked down - like the unfortunate art College which was a great institution - the current re-incarnation at Pond St is a poor substitute!
