  1. Hi Julie, I've got loads all taken by me in the '60s. All black and white. A few (11) are about to be published in a new book, but I have lots more like the person above states I'm Mick Jones. PM me, please. :)
  2. I haven't looked at the photographs yet. But I used to knock about with Ronnie before I got married. I had studied graphic design at Sheffield College of Art, and part of the course included photography. My mum got talking to him one night, and I showed him my work. We became gr8 friends. A bunch of us used to meet up at 5.30 on a Saturday in the Earl Francis. From memory Ron lived on Sky Edge rd I think. He came to my wedding and did our photo album as a present. A real gentlemen. We lost touch after I got married and moved away down south. Knowing Ron as I do he would have been pleased his work has been so praised, and probably laughed about it as well. As I remember it he wanted his work to be seen by the people of Sheffield in all its glory, but in the early 70's it was just a dream. RIP Ron.
  3. Yep I too went "Down Broadway" for about a year afore I was old enough to drink. They played some gr8 stuff. Funny enough we got passouts and went to Stonehouse, we felt Blue Bell was too close for a pull. A number of my m8s got pulled in BB for under aged drinking.
  4. The Park could refer to peeps brought up on Park Hill. Depends on the era of course. We were all known as Park Lads/Park folk in 60's/70's. I suppose the area we are talking about would be Park Hill, Hyde Park and in between like Bardyland and up to Norfolk Park. I might be of got the wrong end of the stick of course.
  5. I was a kid of the late 60's early seventies. My favourite place was Haerbeats above the skating ring, It was handy from Park Hill, just down the hill. Had some super times there and listened to some gr8 music. We watched the 1970 world cup in colour there, and then danced the night away listening to some gr8 soul sounds. I went through a phase of taking photos their using special film that didn't need a flash. Got some gr8 pics but they have been lost I think. At that time it was an Art College Idea, and I was at Sheffield College of Art, although I was a skinhead.
  6. Errr we very rarely get snow donw here. Its about as rare as rocking horse manure. Not quite a village full of thatched cottages, but lovely all the same. Also the pub is across the road about 15 yards away. We sometimes pop across for a meal and I still keep my carpet slippers on lol Yeah would be nice to have a link to your essay m8ty.
  7. My Mrs was from the Hackenthorpe. She lived on Weakland Cresc. One of the Wood family, there were a lot of em, theres millions now.
  8. Regarding Phans post he is right. Of course it depends where on PH u lived. But if you lived above the Scottish Queen or the "Rocket Bars" or "Maze" You had a fantastic view of the valley. The same of course applies to Hyde Park which was built higher up the hill. SkyEdge I think. Because they were higher they had an even better view. But we at PH were their first. I always remember when they were first built. Lots of TV cameras used to come round filming. Apparently Park Hilll was the future of ubanisation. One day everyone would live like this with little roads in the sky[For the milk floats and rubbish carts]. Sheffield Council were so committed they went on to build Hyde Park and Kelvin. Though I think most of HP has gone now, has Kelvin? BTW Peterborough is the nearest city where I live. But I actually live in an idyllic village between Stamford and Grantham.
  9. Although I was born on Pitsmoor in the early 50's and moved to Shirecliffe for a few years. In the early 60's my family moved to Park Hill. Jeez an inside toilet and underfloor heating. And this funny way of getting rid of your rubbish I can say without any shadow of a doubt that my time on PH made me the man I am. And if I had my time over again I would not change a second. I moved away in 74 cos I got married. And my parents moved away about 15 years later. I now live near Peterborough, and have been very lucky in life. My parents live on the Gleadless. My sister in France. Ironicaly my bruv lives on the Pitsmoor, though he was born on Stradbroke. Sorry about the spellings. I had to mention my spirititual home. I know its different now of course, but I'm looking back. I will NEVER move back to Sheffield cos I live it in the country. But I will never forget my real home Sheffield and Park Hill. I might mention a few stories another time, but the bevvy's getting to me.
  10. Was one of the first clubs I went to, wasn't old enough to drink so we'd get a pass out and go to the Stonehouse. Blue Bell was a bit too close, some m8's had been pulled in there for under age drinking. I remember they played some fab music. lots of the drifters, Motown and The Four Seasons. Songs I particularly remember where. Saturday Night at the Movies , My Cherie Amour and Shes Looking Good by Rodger Collins. Never had so much fun with so little alcohol since
  11. Living on Park Hill the Baracuda was dead handy. they dont make chips like that any more.
  12. I've lived near Peterborough now for the last 20 years. I only get propper fishcakes when I come back to Sheffield. I am told though theres a chippy in Boston that does em. Not suprising realy as lots of Sheffielders fish around Boston. Also I once had em in Harry Ramsdens in Blackpool.
  13. Domt know if its alreay been posted, but the policeman Shillito I think he was called wrote a book, I think it was called Cloak Without Dagger. Was about the Sheffield and Glasgow gang wars. I've also got a paperback somewhere kicking about, i'll have a look for it.
  14. Look North in the summer did a feature on this video. Its a documentary focusing on Sheffield in the late 60's and early 70's. I cant seem to find it anywhere. I may have got the name wrong. Has anyone else heard of it? Or know where I can buy it? Thanks in advance.
