  1. Thanks for the replies, I think it was just a glitch. It seems to be recognising the MP3 player now, I did shut own, unplug and restart.
  2. Can anyone help me? I have just bought an e-machines E1831-05 with windows 7, 64 bit processor. I have been able to plug in MP3 players and cameras using the USB. I restarted the PC and now when I plug in an MP3 player it says device "USB device not recognised". I went through the troubleshooting to no avail. I have shut it down, unplugged it and restarted and it didn't solve the problem. I have googled the problem and there are some work arounds for XP users, I haven't found any for windows 7 though. I have also gone to control panel>printers and devices and the USB device is shown as "unknown device". Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.
  3. I am trying to connect a Acer Aspire 3000 laptop to my Polaroid 32" LCD TV. I have got a VGA cable from my laptop to the VGA port on the TV. I change the input on the TV to 'computer VGA' and on the laptop I go into Control panel>display>settings and check 'Extend my windows desktop on to this monitor and press OK. But nothing happens. It just says no signal, then it says 'no VGA signal power will be turned off, and the TV turns off. I have my laptop resolution set to 1024x768 and once I have the TV on in Computer VGA input, I press Fn+F6 and the laptop display toggles on and off but nothing is showing on the TV. If anyone has any ideas I could try, I'd be grateful.
  4. Agree, I saw Total Wipeout the Celebrity version on Boxing Day (I think it was) and Richard Hammond said "let's see whether the celebrities can do the course any better than normal people" or something to that effect several times during the show. I'm sorry, but they ARE normal people for god's sake! Apparently some strictly dancers, fatima whitbread, joe swash and some other nobodies are not classed as "normal people".
  5. Hi folks, Im going on a long plane journey and plan on putting some podcasts or audio books on to my MP3 player. Can anyone recommend some good ones? I enjoy comedy, Terry Pratchett, traveloges, Bill Bryson, Stephen Fry etc - definitley looking for something easy to listen to - not too heavy/depressing/difficult to follow, as Im going on a long plane flight! Any ideas would be great Thanks!
  6. Sting's recent comments about the XFactor are so true: said judges like Simon Cowell have "no recognisable talent apart from self-promotion". the Saturday night show was "a soap opera which has nothing to do with music". "I am sorry but none of those kids are going to go anywhere, and I say that sadly." Sting said the singers who participate in the X Factor, created by Cowell in 2004, were "humiliated when they get sent off". How appalling for a young person to feel that rejection. It is a soap opera which has nothing to do with music. He added: "They are either Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston or Boyzone and are not encouraged to create any real unique signature or fingerprint. "That cannot come from TV. The X Factor is a preposterous show and you have judges who have no recognisable talent apart from self-promotion, advising them what to wear and how to look. It is appalling. It's just glorified karaoke, judged by pop stars with no real singing ability who cannot even sing live in front of an audience (as seen on Cherly Cole's show on earlier this week with her miming). If people want to vote - knock yourself out - I certainly will not be voting, or watching. The fact that the final makes the news headlines on BBC and ITV is ridiculous. BTW what ever happened to Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward, Rhydian, Andy Abrahams? Answer - not a lot in the music biz. From NME online - xfactor winners and losers where are they now. http://www.nme.com/photos/x-factor-winners-and-losers---where-are-they-now/160729/10/1
  7. Ooooh yes, I stopped Benjamin Button too half way through the DVD - so looong, not much happening. High School musical - I couldn't stand that either!
  8. Walked out half way through The Cell (2000) starring Jennifer Lopez - it was too grotesque and weird - couldn't follow it. I remember walking out at the part when a horse was cut in two Damien Hurst style!
  9. Does anyone know any shops that sell Space Bags - those clear plastic bags that you store clothes in and suck out the air using a vacuum cleaner? I found them sold via the Star Newspaper, but they charge $15 for 4 bags plus £3.95 shipping http://shop.thestar.co.uk/I-CC-D3228-STS-1/vacuum-storage-bags.htm I was hoping to go in person to buy some to avoid the Royal Mail disruption. Many thanks
  10. It's for everyone, but there are no rubbish bins so people leave their crap everywhere.
  11. Quote from FB page "By making October 1st Boycott The Buses Day companies will be forced to take action" -- eer why? After just one day? As previous posters have said, if like me you have already paid for a weekly or monthly ticket it makes no difference to the bus companies. Less hassle and stops for them in theory. Plus I agree with what total choas said ..... "so what does everyone who boycotts it tomorrow do on the 2nd?use the bus again lol."....and the 3rd, 4th, 5th etc etc...... It's just self imposed hassle for those that choose to boycott. Im no huge fan of Sheff buses and their continuously spiraling bus fares - but needs must, Im not walking 15 miles to get to work and back I'll use my weekly ticket thank you
  12. Yes, It's the whole package that keeps wanting to update - so now I have safari, quicktime, bonjour, etc that I have tried to uninstall before but upon doing that I Tunes doesn't work. This explains a lot - bloatware alright! I use I tunes for downloading podcasts, that's it, no i-phone or anything else. I will look into that link on the blog you posted, thank you!
  13. Thanks, I have uninstalled it from the control panel now. I'll look at those links as well and will install the new updates when they pop up. BTW - I use I-Tunes, and why does it seem to want to update itself every week? It seems excessive, most of the time I decline to update, then maybe every other month I will update it. I did this last night and it took forever, dowloading 160 MB file!
  14. Edit - found the solution, disable the plug-in from Tools>add-ons. Just one of those annoying things, cheers. Hi everyone, I noticed my PC was showing notices to update Adobe Flash Player, and I had ignored it. My PC (Vista) recently did one of those forced shut downs where it just decides to shut down and says 'installing updates 1 of 3' on the monitor and says 'do not switch off your computer'. Since then I have this annoying pop up called Adobe Download Manager. It pops up whenever I click on certain links (usually ones that open into a new window) while web browsing using firefox. All it has is a blank box, with the words application, status, progress and nothing else and a large orange button that says 'close Adobe Download Manager' - so I do and the box closes but the annoying pop up keeps coming back! Any ideas of how to get rid of it would be appreciated, Thanks
