  1. Hi I have not been on this site for a while but I am so sorry to hear about Michael it's true he was a lovely kind boy who always seemed to be smiling. RIP
  2. I certainly do I can recall the photograph there may be a copy at my mums I will have to check. Fish and chip tea at the Winter Gardens after a day spent on the beach, riding the little dipper and the horses down near Wonderland and then into Wonderland spending up all our money, winning little prizes on the stalls or machines and taking home presents for our mums! Happy days
  3. You're probably not much older than me as I remember trams going up and down Upwell Street, but I only remember going to Millhouses on the bus. I think the trams stopped running just before my youngest brother was born in 1963, I would have been 10 or 11.
  4. I was in Millhouses Park with my grandchildren today and seeing them have their first paddle on the boats on the boating lake evoked many childhood memories of my own. I could vividly remember going to the park with my mum and dad on the number 17 bus from Upwell Street I just wondered if any one else remembers making such a long journey, having picnics in the park, splashing in the paddling pool and sailing in the paddle boats. One strong memory I have is my mum taking us one day just after it had rained and the scent from the wall flowers in the flower beds is one I will never forget. Happy Days!
  5. I too have the tupperware shape ball now used by my grandchildren, a yorkshire pudding shaker that I wouldn't be without and a rice cooker which I have no idea how to use so it has been sitting in my kitchen cupboards for years, perhaps someone on here could give me some instructions ha ha!
  6. What about the black plastic seating area full of holes with the foam stuffing poking out.
  7. George I am so sorry to hear about your mum, I will let my mum know when I speak to her later. Brenda Farmer also died a few weeks ago
  8. Hi try looking on Friends reunited Owler Lane and Grimesthorpe Junior Schools your mum may be on some of the photos on there. If you are successful and find your mum on any of them can you tag her. If your mum can remember me I was Christine Butler and the dates you give correspond to when I went to those schools.
  9. I knew of the O'Riley's and thought my mum was wrong but didn't want to start an argument on Xmas day ha ha. She would have accused me of showing her up in front of my mother in law!!!!! ---------- Post added 31-12-2013 at 21:22 ---------- How old is your mum I seem to remember a Susan Dunn in my class at Grimesthorpe Juniors.
  10. Thanks for that information I will be able to fill my mum in with that news, by the way can anyone tell me if Brendan Ingle lived at the end of Southwell Road, my mum said that he did but I'm not convinced !!!!! Does Melvin still live in the same house?
  11. Took my mum down Southwell Road on Christmas Day (was travelling between my daughters house and mine so did a quick detour) our old house looked so small and unlooked after!!!! I wonder who if anyone lives there now and if there's anyone I know still lives on Southwell?
  12. My daughter lives in Burnley and her local chippie calls them fish scones and unlike here in Sheffield they are quite expensive☺☺
  13. When we travel to my daughters house in Lancashire we pass through Halifax where there are loads of back to back houses which are still occupied and are not classed as slums. These houses home two families, one occupying the front of the house and another in the back of the house they are completely separate to each other, they each have their own door on their own side of the house and hang out their washing across the road. These houses are mostly 3 storey houses and either have a tiny garden or a door that opens directly on to the road.
  14. The Parish Centre and St Thomas church was almost my second home, I spent hours there. The dumb waiter that was used to transfer food and tea urns from the downstairs kitchen to the little room behind the hall used to fascinate me and once the youth club opened life completely changed as we could meet up with all our friends in a warm and welcoming place. Hope all goes well with the fund raising.
