  1. He seemed to be doing an impression of Hugh Grant playing Rochester, which was fairly amusing, but just plain wrong! - Not my idea of Rochester anyway - and I just re-read it a couple of weeks ago, so had really been looking forward to a new series.
  2. Haven't seen the film, but I have seen this... http://www.allyoursnakesbelongtous.com/
  3. Recently used Jupiter Garage just off of Valley Road for MOT and repairs (they're on a little side street, near Lembas?) Nice friendly mechanic, good quick work and not expensive. Will definitely use them again and would recommend.
  4. Hi, I used Heeley Green surgery when I lived on Albert Rd - I always found them to be nice friendly doctors with a modern approach and good atmosphere - this was 3 years+ ago tho so dont know if they've had many staff changes since then
  5. Artfullodger.co.uk has lots of info and you can search by postcode. Dont want to put you off Woodseats at all (fellow Southerners always welcome!) but its not very convenient for getting to the Uni - Unless you mean Hallam as we're on a direct bus route
  6. In my hospital ante-natal group 2 of the mums-to-be already had names for their luckless offspring - Savannah and Toyota. I've also kept a clipping from the Star from a couple of years ago (yes, I know this means I am a sad person) as it featured sisters with the names Porsche and Carrera - class!
  7. I lived on Albert Road for a couple of years before moving to Woodseats and I really miss the happy vibe and community-feeling in Heeley. Lots of friendly lefty-ish neighbours, the city farm is great, Heeley festival is really jolly and the Sheaf View is the best pub in Sheffield. Only thing I dont miss is getting my car broken into which seemed to be an annual event, but that can happen anywhere.
  8. Oh dear! - I do feel the need to come to the defence of ccellis and the Lion's Lair (well I am fancy, after all ;-)) as it is a nice friendly place with really good food. BUT it is just a bit daft to claim that they are unique in the City Centre - What about the Wig and Pen? Muse? Sola? etc etc etc As for there being no nice back street pubs left , seems to me that there are still far too many authentic s**t-holes in Sheffield - come for a pub-crawl in Woodseats if you want proof! Bring on the leather sofas! Please!...
  9. The Magpie (fish) Cafe - well worth queuing for! Mmmmmm - Feeeesh.
  10. Hi If anyone is interested in learning how to make Stained Glass there are still places available on the Wednesday daytime Sheffield College course at Stocksbridge which starts in a couple of weeks. If you are interested Pleeeeeeease get in touch with them (http://www.shefcoll.ac.uk / 0114 288 4530) as if not enough people sign up then they will have to cancel it (and I wont be able to go!) Usually this course is WAY over-subscribed, so not sure what has happened this year - maybe people have been put off by previous experience of not being able to get a place? Hope to see some of you there!
  11. Hi As far as I know this is true :-) But was in 2003 :-( I seem to remember peering at something vague and blurry through a telescope from my back garden! FG
  12. Hi, I got one of these the other day and it freaked me out for a while too. Just switch your phone off and then on again an that should get rid of it. I'm still not sure where it came from or why though!
  13. We are thinking about moving to Nether Green this summer - There seem to be lots of good things about the area, lovely parks, good schools, close to Eccy Rd and Broomhill (where we can't afford to live!) , nice vibe generally - but we'd love to get some opinions from people who are already there about what it's really like to live in Nether Green. Walking round today (Sunday) we were a bit worried about the number of shops that seem to be closing down or closed (maybe thanks to the awful Tesco Express?). Also slightly concerned about the lack of a 'focus' to the place - Is there much community activity/stuff going on? We are in our late 30s with a young family and are just worried that it is a bit of a commuter area that's potentially dead esp. during the weekdays. Thanks for any help
  14. Hoping that someone on the forum might offer some advice: Near where I live in Woodeats there is a little wooded path called the Dale, which leads from Chesterfield Road and goes down to a footbridge over a stream and up again to Fraser Crescent. It could be a really nice walk, but unfortunately seems to get used regularly as a dumping ground for anything that anyone fancies throwing there. As well as general litter at the moment we have 3 broken exercise bikes in the stream and last month there was an electric cooker and heaps of builders rubble. (the council did eventually take this away after I called them) . Also the path is regularly strewn with bags of stuff that have been stolen from outside charity shop doorways on Chesterfield Road. I know I cant solve all these problems but what I would like to do is to set up a sort of 'action team' to help look after the area. My idea is for group of residents to get together and clean the place up once or twice a year. I'm hoping to get the council (or some other public body?) to provide equipment and to take the stuff way. Does anyone have any experience of setting something up like this? Also does anyone know how I can find out who owns the land and who is responsible for it? I have previously spoken to someone in the council environmental team who promised to get back to me but didn't, so I feel a bit stuck there. If anyone has any contacts I'd be grateful. Thanks for any help Fancygirl x
