  1. It was a while back when i saw something about this, a quick search gave me this article. Either way the point is we are human and not cyclists or drivers we trying to get somewhere just in different ways. https://www.treehugger.com/bikes/new-study-shows-scofflaw-cyclists-dont-break-law-any-more-drivers.html ---------- Post added 27-04-2018 at 20:11 ---------- https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2011/12/uncomfortable-relationship-between-bikes-and-red-lights/623/ This one points the other way with cyclists being more of the law breakers. Im guessing a lot of variables go into this. from road layout to weather conditions etcetc.
  2. This is an age old problem and has been studied in great depth. Basically the same people who drive in a car through red lights do the same on a bike. the percentage of drivers who commit this offense is the same percentage of cyclists who commit this offense. It always looks like more cyclists or more cars do this due to our own bias.
  3. Cheapest place i found is the weird tyre garage behind SMC off derek dooley way. The service is interesting but its cheap and they are no less trust worthy then a major large company in my eyes.
  4. Bingo, we have a winner. I used to live on Rudyard rd and this junction was a nightmare to get into. we had access through that gate at all times so had many a day to study the light issues and avoid pedestrians jumping out. ive, cycled, walked, driven and motorycycled through this junction. You are perfectly right the line is far enough back that if you dont go through at a high speed(for the area) then if you cross the line as it changes to amber it can well be red by the time you hit the crossing. add to this that cars heading towards morrisons have already stopped and simply pedestrians step out believing it to be safe. Most of the time you have time to see this and stop at your own imagenary white line but if they give you another second or two you can easily be crossing the crossing as they set off.
  5. Ive tried skipping and reading and catching up, im a commuter cyclist and have enjoyed it for the last 2 years(riding all my life offroad till now) A thing that strikes me when im cycling is how a close call with a car can bring on serious amounts of adrenaline, you just dont get this adrenaline in a car unless its really really close to a big crash. i think this is why us cyclists get so angry with a bad car driving moment. I feel Sheffield car drivers are pretty good and only had two incidents where i felt the car driver was on purpose causing me a issue. The other few close calls have been mistakes on there part and occasionally on mine. We cyclists do feel smug and i think this annoys car drivers the most but we feel smug because we are as people programmed to feel good when our bodies exercise and release chemicals. So basically i think the bad points and good points of cycling come from fight or flight behavior. We are share the roads and just need to give space for each other and be mindful of what we are all are (humans trying to move around). Ps everyone pays road tax it comes from normal tax's vehicles are taxed based on their emissions (not sure if this got clarified earlier on)and most cyclists own a car anyway so its the worst anti cycling jibe going. Anyway ill be cycling tomorrow up some steep hills where the cars beat me,and on my way home ill be beating the cars as i go down steep hills.
  6. Dont know a chimney sweep, but when i got married i looked into yorkshire traditions.....apparntly its old custom to throw a plate out of the window, if the plate doesnt break youll have a bad marriage if it does youll have good look in your marriage. Not sure if this is true but it seemed to be a forgotten tradition from times gone by!
  7. http://www.premierelectronicservices.co.uk/3.html This place is cheaper then harrisons, from experience Harrisons only send of cameras to its original company and basically they charge you a handling fee ontop of your repair bill. Premierelectronics are a in house repair shop. worked wonders on my nikon d80 when it was dead!
  8. if you want to check the snow for sheffield ive found the perfect thing- cctv sheffield cams! http://gettheresooner.travelsouthyorkshire.com/cctv.aspx
  9. See i was reffering to cyclists dont have to pay road tax unless they own a car. if i sold my car tomorrow but still kept riding i would never incure the road tax fee again. so its either full like owning a car or none like riding a cycle and no other road taxable vehicle. I do love forums a dyslexic always gets put down on grammer when someone cant say anything else. i still dont think it was a contradiction in terms as a cyclist i dont pay a road tax but when in my car im no longer a cyclist and i am a Car driver
  10. Its all Blah blah blah, give cyclists room. be weary of the stupid ones and yes watchout we go through red lights but at our risk. you see the roads arent designed for bikes in anyway.... we will never pay road tax, we will never adere to the rules(until we hop in our cars) and yes some will die some will be injured but this will not stop cyclists get over it. watch out and yay
  11. I recently rescued a dieing great tit ive hand reared it with great sucess. i planned to let it go but it is too tame and just wont fly outside. Next plan was to build a avary but that cant happen now either. does anyone know a place like a bird sanctuary or maybe even someone with a keen interest and birds of this sort! basically this amazing little bird needs a expert with the space and facilities to look after him.
  12. Tonight and tomorrow is a amazing show of sheffield youngsters talent for music. At 7 pm tonight a concert called Live and Loud is on and features Rock and orchestral music. Rock classics from Led zeppeling, oasis, gun and roses and many more. These amazing rock songs complete strings for a amazing show of young amateur talent. If rocks not your thing Sunday night features a much more classical line up with the orchestra and classical and beatuiful songs been the show. these are the same kids displaying the other side of their talent. Its £5 entry and starts at 7, and of course is in town so you can go out drinking afterwards. I promise youll be impressed with what these kids have to offer and im certain some of them will make it big time one day. Library Theatre is just up from the crucible. If you like music, rock, classical and just to see something new on a saturday and Sunday come along you cant help but leave thinking Wow. There is no profit from these gigs it simply pays for the kids chance to show their talent. If you saw last years youll be impressed but this year will be that much better! thanks for reading!
  13. The taxis park everywhere from the entrance to the small residential car park behind la vida loca, they park on double yellows(which is technically illegal but not one to my knowledge has had any prosecution) and they even park directly in the road blocking all traffic. its insane. i feel one or two instant fines and the parking would stop they wont loose money for one fair and word soon spreads in the taxi community. I once went out with a tripod and camera and scared them all, one got really annoyed and aggrivated towards me untill i told him i was working on behalf of the taxi licensing agency then he started pleading with me to not include his number plate in the photos. Was kinda funny. All thes photos were taken in around about 4 minutes you can see the imense amount of taxi traffic queing right down to nearly the end of rudyard road.
  14. People react that way to these sorts of things because they feel the world is worse place for all these health and safety things, now granted the poster is just concerened but what if we all feel so strongly then people are scared that in this case hot food will be banned its a over reaction on both parts but at the same time if i got burnt at school yes it would hurt but id learn custard is hot and be careful, its not the end of the world but at the same time shouldnt have happened!
  15. If you have a legal right of access through their land im pretty sure there is alot you can do, however they probably only need to clear you a route. if there are rats there may be some rat catching from the council etcetc but unless the mess is a health hazard it seems unlikely to me the council will have any form of power. the best thing is like you said to contact the owner of the property and tell them the story im amusing most owners dont want their tenants acting in these ways. but whatever happens chances are itll take a long time and not be pretty. stick to it though as a messy neighbour lowers the value of your house massively and of course your own well being!
