I do need to pop back and get more information on who operates these camera's.

I will point out that the road does not go anywhere except to a private fishing pond so access to that would be required.

The road is a public road and no signs were placed on any part saying this road is closed.

The camera's are very close to the bottom end near the pond and the area is completely derelict.

However they where plans to build an estate on that lad and demolish it but nothing has been started and the land has been derelict for years.

The road down up to recently was badly potholed and you drove down with caution but it has for some reason been fully re tarmacd  and I think that may be because they are ready to take down large waggons to start the demolition but I have no proof of that.

I think I am wrong about the trail being closed off I was looking in the wrong place.

According to loxley fishery facebook page the road has been repaired due to anglers not using the pond, the pond owners have been trying for quite a while to get it repaired but the land owners refused to pay for it,so yorkshire water stepped in and paid for the road repair

Yes I recall The Shops at Wise wood/Findon ... Bellingers Grocery Shop which sold sweets, Cryers back of the School, TOM's Hairdressers...... and the Newsagents shop was Mr & Mrs Hudson, There was Colliers Bakers ,.,.. Mr Langstone who owned the Fruit & Veggie Shop, There was a Haberdashery shop, A chemist next door to the newsagents and the Chinese Take AWAY was top of Bolder Hill first shop on the left coming up or right going down. The Chinese WAS previously a DIY SHOP in the early 50's where you could buy garden canes and buckets and watering cans etc. The Owner of the Chinese Chippy was BRIAN my mothers 2nd cousin who had married a Chinese lady (the chinese lady had an extra small tiny thumb stuck on her normal thumb) they had a daughter LEE who was or is my cousin twice removed, There was a Betting office which was blacked out by a dark green window,  That was around where Langstones was.  Colliers Bakery also sold GOB stoppers and Black jacks and Raspbberry fruit sweets. Colliers Elephant Foots were brilliant. Mr and Mrs Hudson owned the Newsagents then bought the corner shop opposite that was a general grocery shop.... they then sold that and moved to a newsagents around 1967 which was up near Marples Tools on West street on a corner.  The Hudsons newsagents was a corner shop at the end of Norris road and their grocery shop which they moved too was opposite also on Norris Road BOTH are now changed into just Normal houses having been bricked up.  There was a second newsagents further along just between Norris Road and Findon Street. The 2nd newsagents was famous for selling Fireworks Mainly STANDARD FIREWORKS..... that shop was also open till 12 noon on Sundays and the large over weight guy who owned it would also break the law and sell folks items that you were back then not supposed to sell on a Sunday. How times have changed.  Mr Bellinger had a stroke but he was into Photography and down in the cellar at Bellingers he had a dark room and he would photograph table top photo's of Toys, lots of Boats from WW2 he would make it look like a battle was going off. LOL. After his stroke it was difficult for him to speak but after 2 years he was almost back to normal. I remember Mr Langstone had a brother who lived opposite the Green Grocers and opposite his brothers shop he was an accountant a large but very smartly dressed man.  Trevor Sheldon a mate of mine lived opposite Bellingers. Further along next door too Bellingers heading towards Wisewood House was a small group of homes one of them at the very end next to Wisewood house almost (although there was the OLD PIECE) between the end house there was a lad be in his 80's now who played drums.  Wisewood house was very nice back then and it was the home of Sir Andrew Stephen (dr Stephen) and his wife and 3 sons Andrew Jnr, Ian Stephen the eldest and Martin Stephen the youngest who was my best pal for many many years as iI lived at 34 Findon Crescent.  There were other shops like the Chippy I think that was owned by Mr Mann and a bag of chips cost you a three penny bit.  There was a shop on a corner  not far from the school that sold LUCKY BAGS.... bought a few of them and also Liquirice sticks.

It was later than 1967 when reg hudson moved to west street,i was one of his paper lads up to late 1970. If i remember right the other shop at the end of norris road was berrys, i cant remember the hudsons ever owning that.

You need to live in S4,5 or 6 to obtain a permit. Proof of address is required along with a current rod licence and a passport type photo.

The cost is £60 for the first season ( joining fee, permit + gate key ) then currently £25 thereafter.

Permits can be obtained at the pond Sat/Sun mornings 10 - 12 during April.

It's a mixed fishery and they can be caught on a variety of methods and baits.

    Cheers matey

Brilliant! I was born in 1956 and brought up on Hawthorne road. Steep hills! And I remember bombing down on one roller skate under my christmas annual. Would go at quite a clip, straight down the hill - dread to think what would have happened if there had been any cars around. My memories are of walking on my own up to Malin Bridge Infants and Juniors with a handkerchief round my face to filter the smog - the handkerchief was black when I got there. Being lulled to sleep by the sound of steam hammers. Racing 'round the lump' and cat walking through peoples back yards and gardens. Going with my mates on Friday evening to Hillsborough Baths and eating chips with scraps from Taplin road chippy. Spending my pocket money on American comics at the newsagents at the top of the hill. I don't live in Sheffield anymore and miss it dearly.

I can remember doing all that with you along with steve cullen, keith robertson, gary and kevin jenkinson, all of us going to wisewood school, you have a brother called neil if i remember right.

How many of those 700 were smokers, either active or former? That would be a question I'd ask.

ONS statistics state that in 2020 14% of adults were active smokers. There are unfortunately no figures for underage and former smokers. Then there are certain jobs that expose people to harmful vapours etc.

I have recently retired after 50 years working as a welder, in that time i have breathed in some right s--t  far far worse than the sheffield air that is supposed to be killing 700 people a year, i am still here fit and well.

Great reply. Did you go and look it up or just going to dish the profanity out?

You should go and look it up, nothing wrong with educating yourself.

Maybe I am not as educated as you but I don’t make sly and sarcastic comments to everyone who posts on this forum. I will give some advice watch your mouth because someone will find out who you are and come looking for you.
