  1. Ive also been in the shop, the bloke is lovely and very helpful, Its quite a well stocked shop too to say its not big, and he did say he could order items in that I needed, He's a lot cheaper than pets at home which is where I normally shop, I shall be going there from now on, Like someone already said, Id rather support a local business than fill pets at homes pockets!

  2. Hi, Its £50 for your provisional licence, Its £20 a lesson (1 hour) or £38 for 2 hours, It took me 8 months, at 1 lesson a week, although I did miss a few what with working or holidays, Its then £32 for your theory and hazard perception test, Obviously if you fail that you have to pay £32 again, then the actual practical test is £60 plus you can have an hours lesson before and then you have to pay for using the instructors car for your test so that's another £38, I passed with Sandersons school of motoring, Lovely bloke George! Still miss our lessons

  3. reported, probably, but if you read around enough you'll find that getting anything taken off a website is incredibly difficult

When you're shopping for a pup, the last thing on your list of criteria should be 'cheap'

get to some dog shows, meet the breeders, mingle a bit, and you'll get to know on the grapevine who and what to look for or avoid

Edit: no decent breeders need to use 'quite a few puppy for sale sites'. They breed to a waiting list, and show results and word of mouth generate the custom for them

Yes i agree, I wasnt looking for a puppy thats "cheap" I was looking for a certain breeder and this one in londonderry kept cropping up and it just made me curious

  4. the only reason for going to ireland is indeed for bloodlines, but that's specific to Irish Wolfhounds as far as I know, or fighting dogs

other than that, it's for avoiding laws in this country, such as tail docking

and if it's neither of above, it's most likely puppy farming

Neither of the above, I dont want anything illegal and it was a saint bernard i was looking at, Im just suspicious that they can sell and deliver for cheaper than i can pay in the uk? But he's a registered user for a good few years on different "puppy for sale sites" and if there had been any problems wouldnt he be reported? banned?

  5. Hi has anyone paid to have a puppy sent over from ireland? I keep seeing adverts for puppies that can be delivered free of charge from londonderry? Is this right? Or is this "puppy farming" I have heard of people buying dogs abroad for good "bloodlines" but to just buy a puppy from there because there cheaper? And would the puppy need a passport? Has anyone done this? Thanks

  6. no, you have to make an appointment. and they will only see you if you arn't registered at a dentist. x

Oh dear! So ive got a cracked filling and bad tooth ache, My dentist is shut, Ive rung the out of hours number on their answer machine, they rang back and said theres no appointments and to take paras and wash my mouth out with salt water? What am i meant to do till tuesday? Any ideas and dont suggest pulling it myself cos if i thought i could without making it worse id be in the tool box now ;)

  7. Hi Kathy

I hope you dont mind me contacting you but I just read your message on the Sheffield forum dated Apr 2009. I was wondering if you ever received any replies about your dad either on the forum or privately. I havent used the computer as such for a few years or I would have seen it earlier.

Me and your dad grew up together and were pals from around 8/9 yrs old onwards. We sort of lost contact altogether in the 1980s and only saw each other when we either met by chance or we were on the same or (close by) building sites or met in a pub.

Your mum may remember me from around the 70s when myself and my ex wife used to go for a drink with your dad and herself. Actually if my memory serves me well we would always end the night singing some of the old 50/60s songs and even some others from the 40s.

I had best introduce myself (sorry). My names Gordon Cambell (nicknamed slosh). I always knew your dad as "penguin". (Although I dont think he was too keen on that nickname either). I have no idea who nicknamed him as such but it stuck for some years.

I still think about your dad for a few reasons but especially when it gets to his birthday (a week after mine, although I am a year older). Very fond memories indeed. As we grew out of our teens we were always together practically every day or evening.

My memory certainly isnt what it once was due to various reasons but if you are still interested in seeking those stories etc I will be more than happy to attempt to add a few missing details for you if I can.

By the way. My email address is wag@blueyonder.co.uk if you care to contact me privately.

    Take care

    Gordon

Hi Gordon Ive sent you a message to your email address and my mum does remember you well lol x

  8. update we have found one of our great danes the male ,his sister the female is still missing he was found in the wordsworth avenue area near margessons shops on the area where there use to be a school or college, thankyou everyone, one down one to find rob, ps the females name is belladonna[bella for short]

Ive put a link on my facebook and posted in the S5 group so hopefully someone will spot Bella :)

  9. We wouldn't every look to rehome older big dogs with children so young. Without knowing the history of these types of dogs - personally I don't feel comfortable with it - regardless of how great they appear in tests in rescue. You just don't know how they may react around children. 2 year olds are on face height with these big dogs.

Bluevan - I messaged you back about coming to walk - did you get it?

Sorry, just seen it and replied :)

  10. Could there be some sort of license that must be held to breed dogs, perhaps?

And a breeder without this should be fined or punished in some sort of way?

Yes but how would it be policed? What would stop people (scum) from breeding there dog and selling the pups by word of mouth? Its a hard problem to solve because the people that cause the problem are irresponsible idiots who wouldnt abide by a law anyway

  11. I think you're right about the "something" but I'm not sure what that is either; in the current political climate we are unlikely to see additional regulatory restrictions in any field, so a licensing regime is unlikely. My general (completely un-thought through, gut instinct) thoughts are mandatory neutering/spaying and some sort of licence for having an intact dog. Again, though, the regulatory compliance work needed there would be costly and not something that I think the state would fund right now.

I was looking on pre-loved a couple of weeks ago and the number of "dogs for stud" on there, without any sort of qualifying reason that they were for stud, was depressing. It really does all make me despair

I agree with you but the problem is i think, If you start making people have there dogs spayed/neutered or having a licence vets would need to be involved somewhere along the lines to help monitor and report problems which would then lead to dogs owed by scum avoiding vets, sick and ill dogs being dumped etc. I dont know what the answer is but i am truly sick to death of stupid people getting dogs and then thinking its ok to "get rid", How they do it i dont know i could never get rid of my dog, Hes 21 months old, chewed my house up,clothes allsorts but i love him and hes part of my family now :)

  12. The thing that worries me aswell is these "in experienced" idiots getting a dog, not being able to cope/afford to feed it and then advertising it singing the dogs praises on how well behaved it is and how good it is with other pets and children, then some other idiot who decides to get a dog on a "whim" takes the dog home, The dog hasnt been temperment checked or anything, a child or other pet could be hurt. I still say something needs doing about "scum" owning dogs and then passing them on to another scumbag, i always think of the dog licence but how it would be policed im not sure but something needs doing, its too easy to own a dog now a days and thats scarey and sad :(

  13. Well done Bluevan - I'm sure you will offer a great home in the future

Yep - Poochi too has found a fantastic new home today and will be going to his new home on Saturday - after his 'errrr' tackle has been taken off - no more fishing bless him.

Sadly far too many dogue de bordeaux's are ending up in pounds and rescues. We have just taken in another 2 - both had bad homes, the female looks like a skeleton bless her - thankfully both lovely natures.

Just wish people would stop breeding them.

Well My Dogue will be neutered in the new year and then hopefully i will be able to help rescue one, I also sent you an email about volunteering in the new year :)

  14. So you have online banking and you didn’t notice payments for August, September,October, November and possibly December were wrong.

Yes! lol But its because we have alot of dealings with this company so i didnt notice the extra payments coming out, I have rung the bank this morning and they are sorting it for me and i should have the money back in the next few days, so thanks Rbs for making it easy :)
