"abbey" ruins at Grimesthorpe,any clues?
martS5 replied to martS5's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
i used to walk over the ridge to School, depending how muddy it was i would either walk through the horses field, or go over the top through what was left of the cottage/hall,spent many hours at crabtree pond if i could get through the snicket gate next to the house. I live in Spain now and was just remembering the early 60's -

Information About Roman Era Sheffield Wanted
martS5 replied to jayjay's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
my headmaster at Firshill Junior School,a Mr Cox,often told us of the roman road which ran over the top of Orphanage Road over to Roe Woods, latterly i was informed that a roman building of some kind was discovered on the building of the Atlas and Norfolk sports ground (now S.U.F.C academy) maybe this all linked up with the Roman Ridge?
