  1. If you really want to make a difference to your life I recommend that you investigate Metabolic Typing. Individualised eating programmes and guided lifestyle modifications that can to change your health, well being and outlook on life. More details can be found on the UK website at:- http://www.metabolictyping.co.uk/ I've been working with Gary Ward (a Metaboilic Typing advisor) since the start of the year and I would highly recommend his work. One of the good guys! See his website at:- http://garyward.typepad.com/gary_ward_training_health/ Send me a pm if you want further info.
  2. Gale, camridge etc, were not always owned by Richer. Once upom a time these were independant companies who produced individual product but then.......they went bust ,and were bought up (only the name that is - not the whole company) by Richer Sounds who sub contract new product using the old name. Gale in particular never made any budget spekers or floor standers - they were most well known for a very funky stand mounted design that had large chrome plated end caps.
  3. Gabbleratcht - the most common reason that high frequency drivers blow is because the amp is clipping. When a high frequency signal causes the amplifier to provide power outside of it's normall listening range the power provided is very ' spiky' for want of a better term. Bass drivers are mechanically robust but trebble drivers (very scaled down bass drivers) are very fragile and it is easy to burn out the voice coil. Most people do not realise that many amplifiers achieve maximum real volume when the volume controll is only at 9 or 10 O'clock - although the amp will go louder this is at the expense of very much increased distortion. Some amplifiers (usually more expensive ones) use volume controlls with a different 'law' and maximum volume is achieved at 12 to 2 o'clock, this has nothing to do with more or less power but is just down to the type of volume controll used. The maximun volume ones speakers can achieve has little to do with the ultimate power of the amplifier used and much more to do with the efficiency of the speakers. Heavily horn loaded speakers can go deafeningly loud with only a few watts for example. My own amps are rated at 75wpc and the sub has it's own 200w amp built in; I can assure you that lack of maximum volume is not an issue I have. As stated, someone elses system always sounds better ythan yours...but I haven't heard one in many years :-) Neeeeeeeeeeek (hope that's enough e's), never seen your cd player before - the only time I've had a similiar problem to you is when playing copied CD's. This is down to the origonal CD not the Copy. Each CD has a TOC (table of contents) which is encoded at the centre (start) of all CD's - this contains the track listing and track position information - you can hear the CD player read this at the start when it comes up with all the track information - sometimes this is not completely correct and causes the end of tracks to be cut very slightly. Also, I think that some CD burning software automatically mutes when signal dips below a certain point and this too can cut a copied track a bit short.
  4. (my wife pointed this thread out to me and I'm using her log-in name :-0)I worked in Hi-Fi for many years (Linn/Naim dealer). As a result I own quite a big system: Very heavily modified LP12 - different suspension, base, motor mounting, subchasis - in fact the only origonal bits are the motor, main bearing and platter. Naim Aro tone arm Modified Linn Troika Cartridge Avondal phono stage powered by modified Naim Snaps power supply Naim Nac72 Pre amp Naim Hi-cap Power Supply 2 X Naim NAP135 mono power amps Linn K400 spkr cable Epos ES14 Speakers quite heavil modified - Different internal damping, re-wired internally, upgraded X-over Rel Stadium sub-woofer, slightly modified Some very OTT Origin Live tripod speaker stands (I think these were a prototype design) Seperate mains spur - hydra mains cable - it's very own room to live in :-) Robbobassman, coments are quite true. An element of price fixing definately takes place amongst Linn and Naim although all Hi-Fi companies I have dealt with try to discourage (depending on their retail clout) discounting. These days much of the equipment that Richer Sounds sell is in fact made by companies that they own - Whardedale, Audiolab, Cambridge etc. Budget components (£200ish per components) have always been remarcably good value for money in my opinion and still are. Your best bet is to set a budget and go to a dealer that can demonstrate the equipment to you - there is a couple of good dealers in Sheffield as far as I am aware.
  5. Sally Wright - Taylor & Emmet Eccleshall Road. We use her for all out transactions. Not the cheapest, but have found her to be excellent!
  6. Hi, Could I recommend a painter that is currently working on a house for us. He does exterior and interior painting at a good price. He does a good job and is an honest guy. His name is Andy Tinker and you can contact him on 07931 415748.
  7. Hi, No we don't have splash over with our Daryl - it has a good high rim and don't cause any problems. I would highly recommend them.
  8. We have a Valiant high pressure heating system and I would highly recommend it.
  9. Having an IKEA in Sheffield would definately be a positive move!
  10. Urban Splash did a great job in Salford to the terraces that were worth nothing, and after their work are now a 'chi chi' place to live. It can only be a good thing!
  11. Hi, We have 2 Daryl wall in showers fitted in our house and they are excellent. Not cheap, but well worth the money! We looked at the cheaper options like B & Qs' but we'd heard issues about water overflowing into the rest of the bathroom due to the flexibilty in the unit. My Mum and Dad have a Matki walk in shower that they are also happy with.
  12. Hi, Unfortunately a lot of the food in the restaurants on Ecclesall Road is ok - but no more than that. The Pasta Bar and Mediterranean on Sharrowvalle Road are both good. Or, a bit further field Thyme Cafe in Broomhill has excellent food.
  13. No ones mentioned the Canton Orchard, Fulwood. Excellent food and setting - a little pricey, but it's worth it!
  14. Hi, I think you will find that the solicitor has obtained an indemnity insurance policy for the buyer against any potential legal action in the future by the council. This is common practice when purchasing houses that do not have all the required building regulations!
