  1. Hi Sam, How are you keeping? I still keep in touch with Charlie; Christmas cards and occasional pints before a match. I live in Scotland now so I only get to a match once a month or so. It’s interesting seeing some of the names mentioned on here, most seem to be from the year above ours at Ecco so I knew them but not well.
  2. Bloke in front of me farts like one anyway!
  3. Fan or Fool? I have just renewed my season ticket and so committed myself to another season of 400 mile round trips from Scotland to support the lads - whatever division we're in. I now need to sell a few books to pay for it! http://www.birkett.yolasite.com / http://www.gullstory.weebly.com for great stories.
  4. The Ritz - Saturday morning - Zoro! and then round to Buchanon shops to buy a 1d cane to kill my mates with and leave them with a Z as my calling card. http://www.birkett.yolasite.com "First Job" - crime in 70's Sheffield?
  5. I don't post much on here but I love to read other's posts - keeps me in touch with the chat and banter. I'm a Wednesday season ticket holder living in the Scottish Borders so I only get back on weekend matchdays... and then the beer in the Castle gets in the way of too much talk! Keep up the good work. http://www.birkett.yolasite.com first Job - a tale of 70's Sheffield
  6. Dad worked there from the early 60's until his retirement in 1985 - Arthur Birkett - He's 89 now and still going strong. I think he enjoyed his time there; he often talks about it anyway. http://www.birkett.yolasite.com for 'First Job' a tale of crime in 70's Sheffield
  7. I loved school dinners, cleared my plate every time... except for the dreaded Spam fritters. They oozed grease and made me gip every time. Favourite dinner - the one in front of me. http://www.birkett.yolasite.com - for a tale of crime and idiocy in Sheffield - 'First Job'
  8. Brian Laws leaves SWFC - shame, a lovely bloke but the players were letting him down on the pitch. Good luck Brian. http://www.birkett.yolasite.com for 'First Job' a tale of robbery in 70s Sheffield - free!
  9. I had a pair when they had a bit of a comeback in the 70s - very comfortable but a bit dicy in wet weather on pavements. When I started teaching in Huddersfield I had the daughter of the Walkley Clogs firm in my class - Imogen - They're still in business at Mytholmroyd in Hebden Bridge if you fancy a pair http://www.clogs.co.uk http://www.birkett.yolasite.com for 'First Job' a tale of crime in 70's Sheffield
  10. A bloke from Yorkshire goes into a Jewellers. He says, "Can tha mek a gold statue o mi dog?" Jeweller replies, "Aye, reckon I can. Does tha want it eighteen carat?" The bloke replies, "Na ya daft pillock I want it chewin a bone !!!" A tale of hapless youth in 70s Sheffield - worth a laugh - http://www.birkett.yolasite.com
  11. Me Mum used to work at the Fine Fare and I used to go with her sometimes in the school hols to 'help' but I used to take the ******* from the Robertson marmalade jars. http://www.birkett.yolasite.com for a tale of hapless youth in 70s Sheffield - First Job
  12. My story, 'First Job', was reviewed as "Very difficult to understand but very funny" by several people so I had to tone down the Sheffield accents a bit to widen its readership outside of the Peoples Republic. Its at http://www.birkett.yolasite.com if anyone wants to have a read for free.
  13. In the early 70's we used to be regulars in the Tankard in Ecclesfield where Trevor (?) was the grumpy landlord. Four or five of us went there from being 16 onwards and when the last of us finally reached 18 we had a bit of a celebration and told Trevor our ages. His reply - "I've known how old you were all along but you caused no bother and the old uns needed someone to take money off at doms." Wise bloke was Trev. 14. We used to go to the Ritz cinema on Saturday mornings to watch regulars like 'Zorro' and afterwards go to Buchanon Rd. shops to buy a ha'penny cane each and sword fight all the way back to Milnrow Rd. Much later we headed a convoy of cars down from Huddersfield to watch 'The Life of Brian' at the Essoldo because it was banned up there. 15. There is a string of craters in Geno Woods that run in line with Penistone rd that we used to play in (around mid 60s). An old local told us they were made by bombs dropped to lighten German aircraft on their way back from the Sheffield raids.
