  1. Most of this is a wider problem. Putting a road there will just mean they will go elsewhere .. maybe the parks, or Fargate. We need to tackle the problem at the root cause, not shift them on.
  2. Yea, agreed on that one. Outside Peace Gardens is a terrible, terrible location for the Xmas markets, the moor would be far better.
  3. Having only been a resident of Sheffield for 12 months it's difficult to take this statement seriously, but talking to others it because clear that it's not too outlandish, which indeed makes it a massive shame. I blame MeadowHell/Smell
  4. Also, it's SOOOOO LOUD! The workers have ear plugs, but shoppers are just as close to the noisy machines!
  5. Agreed. Bloody annoying having to walk down it though, it's hard work navigating through 'zombie shoppers' at the best of times but with only a few meters to move in it becomes very irritating quickly!
  6. Forgot to address this bit in my last post, but off the top of my head ... * Friendly down-to-earth people * Small centre easily navigated on foot (I don't drive) * Close to areas of outstanding beauty * Hills! (Not many of these in Manchester!) * Beer and pubs - much more availability of local real ales, better prices, more charming drinking holes It's just lacking the shopping, nightlife and of course a decent football team, but then on the last point you could say Yorkshire as whole is lacking a decent side.
  7. You're rash = you are rash which in the context of the sentence would not make sense. (you are rash comment vs your ... rash comment). I'm confident that in this instance my grammar is correct (can someone please confirm this). Nice one nonetheless for trying to pick me up on it I agree, Sheffield is very different to Manchester and/or Leeds however that doesn't justify the lack of independent shops and the lack of mid-range mens clothes shops which I highlighted. Am I correct in thinking that, based on population, Sheffield is the UK's 4th biggest city? If so, there should be more (and better quality and independent) shopping in the centre. Maybe they could knock a few Greggs down. I walk 20 mins to work and pass 5 of them ... Castle SQ, Fargate, nr Peace Gardens and 2 on The Moor.
  8. My life doesn't revolve around shopping fortunately. Sheffield has other things going for it. I was going to say the people are really friendly but your rash, blunt and one-dimensional response doesn't really support that
  9. Meadowhall is at fault for the lack of shops in the city centre I personally think. Having lived in Manchester most of my adult life up until only 12 months ago, I have to say Sheff is awful for shopping. Discounting Meadowsmell, there just aren't enough mens clothes shops in the mid-price range. And the stores there are there for mid-range mens clothes are understocked compared to their Manchester/Leeds counterparts - for example, H&M is crap here, the mens section is about as big as my front room! Manchester kicks the **** out of Sheffield ... the refurbed Arndale, the traffordn centre, afflecks palace, triangle centre, lowry outlet etc etc etc. Sheffield has Meadowhall and Fargate ... poor show! I did all my xmas shopping in Manc
  10. If it came with the house, it came with the house... If you found an old pan would you contact the ex-resident? Same principle applies. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there!
  11. +1 (that is all ... 10 character minimum .. pah!)
  12. http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/News/Reported+Service+Alterations.htm A number of changes from previously posted ... e.g. busses going as far as high green now
  13. Ok, yea, good point, but ... a forum is more likely to be banned than a local travel website (I work in IT and the word 'forum' often ends up on the domainname blacklist). Also, by browsing the link, you can be sure you are reading the most up-to-date info. If this info is to be spammed (sorry, ahem posted) into this forum, it should be on it's own thread with regular re-posts, or updates. Just my 2p for what it's worth (not a lot probably!) Peace
  14. I'll 2nd that but they could have just posted the link ... i mean, we all have internet here surely by proxy
  15. Not difficult to grasp but not exactly democracy is it? We shouldn't have ANY PM that wasn't directly elected as leader in my opinion. If a PM steps down or dies etc, then my belief is that we should have a general election.
