  1. Sadly, my Lily had another seizure on Saturday , just when we had started to hope for the best . I can empathise with you, its almost a guessing game with them and sometimes, the reasons for seizures are never found . Lily has blood tests this week to eliminate certain diseases but our Vet remains certain that it is brain damage following her head inury in which case, there is little that can be done for her . The upside is that between seizures, she seems happy and alert so its watch and wait, its hard especially as we only lost her brother two years ago and our cat seven weeks ago , I cant bear the thought of losing Lily . 2. Grandad used to say that someone tall and thin looked like A Yard of Pump Water !
  3. Hi Jackie, I hope the phenobarb works well for your Mums dog . My Lily has had a very small seizure this afternoon, just when we thought she just maybe might not have any more . This one was very short lasting at the side of her big one, it lasted about a minute maximum , she just stopped walking, laid down and stared into space with some shaking of her body and then back she came, got up , shook herself and started playing with her toys .
  4. Can only agree with the majority, it is very hard to get DLA . My husband is disabled , he had one major op to insert metalwork into his crumbling spine and recently had another op to remove the metalwork which was moving and causing associated pain and loss of mobility . He cannot walk more than about 20 yards, cannot stand for more than one minute and cant bend at all and is in constant pain . I have to help him to dress, shower and cant let him walk unaided and yet we are having to fight for help despite both being 62 and paying our dues all our lives .
  5. Maybe it is a JRT thing then ? I could cope just fine if the seizures were more mild but this one was massive, her legs went rigid and she lost consciousness for a minute or so , you`re right, its very distressing Kate x
  6. Thanks for replies, its now about seven hours since her siezure and she is just sleepy and when she wakes , she is really clingy too, which tells me she is scared . Our Vet mentioned phenobarb but said he didnt want to put her onto them unless she has another big one very soon so for now, well watch her and try not to spoil her, oh yes ? Kate x
  7. What a horrible day , my little JRT girl had a massive seizure today and the Vet is pretty certain its epilepsy . Our Vet is only minutes away and we got her to him when she was in the final throws of the fit so he saw it . We are on watch and wait to see if she has another one soon and then it will be a scan to make sure it isnt a tumour and if not, its medication for life .It was a truly awful thing to witness, we were terrified and thought she was having a stroke, scared us to death . Does anyone else have a dog with epilepsy ?
  8. Hi , please dont beat yourself up over this, it was an accident and to be honest, it happens to the best . My friend was very recently in a similar situation and went for the abort/spay for her girl who is now over it and well on the mend, good luck to you Kate
  9. So sorry to read your sad news, they certainly do become pets . Hope you can find a way to keep the fox out, sorry x
  10. Hi , four weeks ago, we had our darling puss PTS , she was an elderly cat who had dementia and we miss her terribly . We have two dogs, a Lab aged 9 and a 5 year old JRT , both grew up with the cat and whilst the JRT wasnt too keen on her( but never did her any harm), the Lab adored her and like us, misses having a cat around . We will definately get one from a rescue but wonder what would be best to settle into a household with two dogs , an adult cat or a kitten , any thoughts please ?
  11. Thanks for the warning, thats terrible ! We are coming up to Derbyshire/Notts/Yorks next week to visit family . One of the places we take our dogs is Sherwood, its now off limits, thank you very much for this info .
  12. What about Crete as an alternative ? We stayed in a small resort called Plakias on the south coast . It was quiet but not dead , lovely restaurants , wonderful beach and walks and if you hire a car, the scenery is fantastic with historic buildings abounding in other larger resorts on the islands , the locals are friendly too !
  13. I lost confidence in Nick Clegg when he said that he thought the UK Government Pension was " about £30 per week "
  14. I wont be watching again until she`s gone, she`s got nothing to contribute at all and as for her story line , its grim .
  15. Thats lovely ! The little cat I had to have PTS four weeks ago was rescued and we had her for the GSD Ben who we had at the time . Ben adored cats and had been heartbroken when our old one died and so we went out to get another cat, for the dog !! They too had a close and happy companionship until Bens death so yes, they can be really close and good pals !
  16. So very sorry to hear your sad news , please dont beat yourself up over your deep feelings of grief, let it happen, its very natural for all of us who love our darling pets so much . I`m glad that others have given you a number to ring, this must be so distressing for you , my thoughts are with you Kate x
  17. Hey, lifes too short to even give a passing thought to age and how others see us ! I`m 62 years young and if I want to kick leaves I shall do , if I want to jump in a puddle , so be it , play Guitar Hero on my grandchildrens Wii , I do it and I dont give a toss what anybody thinks !!
  18. Thank you, I`ll pass the comments on to her , I tend to agree that an abort spay would be the best path to take as she was going to spay anyway , thanks
  19. Just spoken to my friend again and aparantly, she left her girl in the garden and went to answer the phone and when she came back out, next doors dog had jumped the fence and they were already tied . I do feel sorry for her because she had intended to spay after this season and it was just one of those accidents that happen , she says now that she was stupid to not think that a dog would jump over a four foot high fence !! Sorry ,I didnt mean to have a go berlingo, unwanted pups is a subject I feel everso strongly about and working for The Blue Cross, as I do , its a constant and very sad problem .
  20. Hey , dont shoot the messenger, its not my dog !! As I said, my dogs are both spayed to prevent unwanted pups . I was purely posing the question for someone who doesnt have internet , I have no idea how the accidental mating took place, just wanted opinions on the injection and how effective it it so that I can pass comments on .
  21. This isnt for me, my two are spayed thank goodness but a friends bitch had an accidental mating on Friday on the 18th day of her season, the dogs were tied for 20 mins . She has had conflicting opinions re the injection and doesnt know who to take advice from, two Vets have said different things . The trouble is that her bitch had a litter at her last season and so my friend is worried about the effects of two close litters . She is in turmoil, she knows its her fault but wants to do the right thing , has anyone here had the injection for their bitch and were they alright afterwards please ?
  22. Hi there, its the second plant in these photos, the green creeper !! http://images.google.co.uk/images?sourceid=navclient&hl=en-GB&rlz=1T4SNYK_en-GBGB312GB312&q=rockery+designs&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=dPi1SuqvBMqj4gah8uh8&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1
  23. I`m building a rockery at the back of my pond . I was lucky to be given lots of granite to use and I`ve seen some plants in a picture but dont know the name, its a very low growing quite vivid green creeper that seems to cling to the stone and gives fantastic ground cover , any idea please ?
  24. Fantastic crop of onions this year . Broad beans did well as did courgettes and sweetcorn. Tommies got blight so not very good and the runner beans have been poor but I think thats my fault for planting out too early . Butterflies got at the cabbage but the hearts are still edible !
  25. You can also plant spring greens now , I`ve just put onions in too as my garden was also looking bare ! Runners have been very poor this year .
