  1. i just wanted to add my condolences to you, I am so very sorry . The pain of losing a much loved pet is truly awful at any age but i know from experience that losing a young one adds another dimension . One thing to remember is that your Poppy didnt know how old she was, just that she was very loved indeed and its the love that matters . I am currently working on a Pet Bereavement course with the Blue Cross , they are always there to listen if you ever need them Kate x
  2. I know, I know, I keep asking myself that too , would I want to know ? Answer is definately yes I would !!
  3. Thanks a lot all . I reckon what I have done is just about right . This man fancies himself as a bit of an entrepeneur (sp?) and has several obscure websites and forums . Now, bearing in mind that on the sleazy singles website, he describes himself as hunky chunky guy , I went onto one of his other websites, it has a contact us box where you put your details for him to get in touch . I put my e mail address as waster@sleazeland.co.uk and in the message box, I just wrote " hello hunky chunky guy " and hit send, and it did . This way , he will know that someone has sussed him and hopefully be a tad concerned but I wont have it on my conscience that I have ruined his girlfriends life as she`s actually a nice lass . Maybe I have let him off the hook too easily, he deserves so much more but my Nanan always used to say What goes around , comes around , hope so !
  4. I know I`m stupid , I already said that ! I am also a soft hearted daft old soul who doesnt like upsetting anybody , but ............. if jesus wants me too , thats good enough for me !
  5. Theres this man , a rather nasty man too , but I discovered that too late . he got me and others involved in a small business venture, we did loads of work for him for this new venture and then he did the dirty on us, sold the business . It wasnt that so much that made us angry , it was the way he treated us afterwards, laughing at the fact that we had been left high and dry and bad mouthing us for our stupid trust . Well , we had been stupid and had been suckered and were al really upset and annoyed with ourselves for being taken in . We couldnt take any action against him so just put it down to experience and decided to move on and ignore his taunts and hope he would tire of it , he did . Well, just when we had closed this can of worms , one of my friends , who had googled this person, sent me an e mail link to a very dubious singles website where lo and behold, there was our man , no doubting it was him ,describing himself in some detail and saying that he was ready to share some fun !!! We know for a fact that he is in a long term relationship and due to wed at Christmas . Hum , its very tempting to spread the word, so to speak , or would that be really nasty ?
  6. Right where I am now, 62 . Its young enough to still live life to the full but at the same time, know enough not to suffer fools and to get away with growing old disgracefully ! To have spent my youth in more affluent times when jobs were there to be had, to have been a teen in the 60`s , yes, 62 is grand !!
  7. :hihi: Sorry , do you like the cream first or the jam ? I`ll chuck some over Born in Sheffield, Yorkshire Mum , Cornish Dad . Lived in Sheffield till I was about 30 and now in Cornwall where I am growing old disgracefully x
  8. Oh no, I`ve been watching this and praying for a happy outcome , hope she is alright .
  9. So very sorry to read your sad news . Its only a week since my cat was PTS, they worm their way into our hearts dont they ? Very sorry kate x
  10. Nanans way , warm the pot, three Yorkshire teabags ( she used lose tea )and let it stand for a few minutes to brew . Drink out of white mugs ( she had to have china !) and enjoy the potfull with a plate of ginger biscuits , heaven x
  11. The fact that you booked into hospital but couldnt go through with it , tells that you are very confused and not ready to make this massive decision . As it is very early days , maybe take a little time, just a little time to think things through . OK so the timing is rubbish but then it is for many people ! Could you ask your Doctor to refer you to a councellor or clinic to help you , even if its just by listening to you ? I do feel for you and hope that you can come to the right decision together, good luck .
  12. As the others have said, if you get a rescue who is an elderly cat or one who has been used to being an indoor cat, thats ok . However, to keep a cat indoors when it has always had access to the great outdoors is not fair at all . I had my old cat PTS last week as she had gone very senile and we would have had to keep her inside and all she wanted to do was escape back out but once outside, she was afraid, confused and couldnt fend for herself .
  13. Hi , I can really relate to this . I sadly had my feral girl PTS six days ago, an old lady who went senile and could no longer fend for herself but still wanted to go wild, she was confused and couldnt eat properly . Ferals always retain that wild side and theres nothing you can do about it but let them go and welcome them when they decide to come back ! Ours would, in her younger days, wander for weeks and then turn up, just as hope was fading ! Just allow her to do whatever she wants to do and enjoy every bit of time with her Kate xx
  14. My 9 year old Lab always chose to sleep in the sitting room , we`re in a bungalow so she could come into the bedrooms if she wanted to . My JRT on the other hand, cried bitterley on night one when left in the sitting room and so we fetched her into our room, silence !! I`m afraid I`m with Bilbo on this , our little dog sleeps in our room, usually on the bed or beside it in her bed . Ours also go everywhere we go but if left for shopping trips, no crying or destruction .
  15. What lovely news, I am so happy for you !! What a lovely lady to care so much, it restores faith in human nature !! Brilliant ! Kate x
  16. Sorry to hear about the problems with your Lab and I agree with Gemima that diet can play a massive part in behaviour . I have a nine year old Lab and have, as she got older, reduced the ammount of protein in her diet as she doesnt need it because although still active, it is now at a slightly slower pace ! High protein diets can be bad for younger dogs too and I couldnt agree more about the additives and colourings causing hyper attacks ! I do hope your dogs is ok Kate x
  17. I posted a couple of weeks ago that my little elderly cat seemed to be suffering from dementia as she wasnt eating well and seemed to be confused and afraid . Then, the worst thing happened and she took off , we searched for six days and had just about given up hope when a neighbour rang to say that she had spotted a small black cat in her garden which is very overgrown with lots of trees and bushes . We didnt dare to hope as we had already searched in her garden but it was our cat , starving and terrified us of and everything . I had one chance at grabbing her and brought her home to our spare bedroom to rest and eat . She was a ferral cat that we had rescued many years ago when we lived in France , her name was Reglisse which is French for liquorice and we adored her and had given her 14 happy years with us , bringing her back to England three years ago with our dogs . She was never an indoor cat and never a pussy cat , a bit of a free spirit who preferred to live in the greenhouse and come indoors for food and the occasional stroke ! Well , having got her home , we realised that she was poorly , she was incredibly thin, weak and even more confused than before , afraid of us and terrified of our dogs which she never was before . We took her to the Vets and he told us that she was, in his opinion , suffering from the affects of a stroke but also from the feline form of Alzheimers . Our choices were to keep her indoors which was out of the question as all she wanted to do was escape and go back to the wild , or let her go back to the wild which was also out of the question as she was vunerable and easy prey for the foxes we have around and, as she could no longer catch food, she would starve to death . So sadly, we had her PTS yesterday , a decision our Vet felt was the right one for her . We are devastated , to have found her and then lose her is just awful but at least we have some closure now and know that our darling old girl is at rest . She was, the Vet thought, about 18 years old and had lived a mainly happy life but it doesnt stop us from missing our little friend . Kate xx
  18. My cat was at least 14 ,maybe much older as she came from a rescue , we had her for 13 years and she was fully grown at that time . Theres lots of foxes around here so maybe thats whats happened to her xx
  19. Still no sign of our dear old cat . I`ve even been out with our Labrador, hoping she might pick up the scent of her pal , its like she has vanished . Its now been four days since she left and unless she has caught something, its a week since she ate and also the fact that she is confused makes us now sure that she left to go and die . Its so very sad , we are distraught and wont ever give up hope that she might just walk through the cat flap and yet its unlikely now . Darling old girl , I just wish I knew where you are laying , Kate xx
  20. The worst possible thing has happened , our little cat has disappeared and we cant find her anywhere . Where we live its very rural and all the gardens have lots of bushes and trees , we have searched and neighbours have searched their gardens and sheds etc. but she has now been gone since yesterday morning . She has gone off before but this time she isnt well and hasnt had very much to eat in five days so will be weak and she is confused too . As soon as neighbours are up and about , I`ll have another search but am now thinking that she has gone off to die, as i know cats do this . We`re distraught , I just want to know where she is Kate xx
  21. What a relief for you that things arent as bleak as you had thought, really good news . My old Jack Russell Terrier lived with a heart murmour and carried on running unti he died, aged 19 ! lots of luck to you and Harley, he is beautiful kate x
  22. Having had six children , I would say that the right pet for an 11 year old is one that you will be happy to look after yourself ! kate
  23. I had to have one of my dogs PTS 18 months ago and what I did was to keep a diary for about two weeks . I wrote down what sort of day he`d had , how upset he`d been , if he had eaten and walked etc . Then , I read it and saw that his bad days far outweighed any good days , which were very few and then i knew that it was his time . I wish you the strength to make the right decision for your pal , its so very hard Kate
  24. Thanks , I have spoken to our Vet and given the symptoms , he thinks its dementia because looking back , although up to two days ago , she was eating ok , she was not as interested and behaving very biazzarly but he agrees with what you said, it could also have been a stroke . We are taking her tomorrow and preparing ourselves to say goodbye to our dear old puss as its not fair to keep her like this , she is distressed .
