  1. to ridgewalk and ikepot44 ,sorry boys I can't be a*sed ,life is too short
  2. time you grew up and realised films are "pretend"
  3. I'm with you tony, maybe our tough working class upbringing ensured we grimaced and bore the overstrict discipline and with the comraderie of fellow pupils just got on with life.life is too short to keep carrying baggage from the past.
  4. I was at dls from 1956 to 1961 and bro wilf was head. a c... full weght
  5. good to hear from you tony, hope your hair is as black as it used to be,my blonde locks are now snow white.i visited Rotherham a few weeks ago to attend the funeral of pete carrol whom was a year older than us at dls but I met up with terry kennedy whom was our year and he told me that another couple of lads noel hird and john belfitt have now passed on.we are at a funny age so enjoy.btw the boxing match was declared a draw with the gloves so heavy we were both knackered.all my best wishes pat
  6. as has been shown in recent cases of celebs being found not guilty of various abuse charges it is blatently obvious that perception of abuse has changed.during my time at dls I had 7 bells knocked out of me by both teachers and pupils,i took it and became stronger for it.the trouble with later generations is that they are "run to mammy wimps" with persecution complexes and maybe the modern "lets see if we can get money by sueing" attitude is taking over.my time 1955-1961 was hard but ffs it did,nt leave me a wimp.further I never, never saw or heard of any sexual impropriety.today the homosexual members of society(whom are apparently3%of the population)seem to have taken control of the media, much to the detriment of truthfillness.
  7. shaun ,i will get that done for you,but it is about 30" long and i am absolutely useless with scanning and posting.i'm going to the uk for xmas and i,ll get one of my family to send it to you.btw, one guy i remember from your neck of the woods was a lad called harrington,he was 13yrs old and wore size 13 shoes
  8. hi shaun, there are many i remember but to another matter.about 20 yrs ago my son was educated at Mount St Marys Spinkhill where i met another parent whom attended DLS although he was 3/4 yrs younger than i and that was a lifetime in those days.anyway he had a whole school photograph taken in 1959/60,i'm sure you must be on there.every now and then i take it out and have a chuckle(or a curse) to myself.its usually then that i can put a name to the faces.DLS pupils seem to have gone to the 4 corners of the world,is that because we hated S Yks or our education taught us to get away fast, best wishes, pat
  9. hiya shaun,i was at DLS 55-61 and recognise some of the names you mention.in those days we seemed to stick with our mates from our hometown, mine was Rotherham.of the names you mention;Paddy Moran was from Doncaster and a member of the Waldron gang,i once had the gloves on with him(literially)in the gym ref by capt Wall because we were always at each other's throat ,the whole school looked on and cheered.Tony Barber i remember was DLS,s answer to Elvis.
  10. some memories of dls in the mid 50 s.trying to play soccer with a 7lb ball top of a hill at concorde park in a force 9 gale led by a crazy young irish brother called camellius (i am sure this is the same place that is featured in the film "the full monty". firing 303 and bren guns in the college acf at camps at beckingham and fort william under the command of cpt archer and u.officer dennis finnegan who played centre half at sheff utd as deputy to joe shaw.i also remember tom fenoughty also played for utd. at the end of our 2nd year 20 of us congregated on the evil smelling don bridge at castle market and threw our hated school caps into the river. the strange aroma of the chapel where many went to pray days before exams.the pe teacher cpt wall who made everyone hang upside down on the paraell bars to make sure the wernt wearing underpants.........being late for assembly. ahaaaag
  11. 1956-1961 the years of the b! wilf who gave me 6 of the best for booing a hated prefect at speech day (not guilty).loved merrick and alphonse who taught me all i know.remember the death of whaley ,the lunatic antics of foley without his medication.and the mad paddy mcsweeney organising 600 of us in lines in the yard.met many good friends but not of the sheffield mafia of waldron and mckenna who were sad bullies.it was a tough upbringing and as capstick said "the dunt know the born today"
