  1. Tell that to the trees being cut down in smash and grab attacks. Its nice to know our council tax money is going to pay for private investigators to help the council limit the resistance to cutting down trees! ---------- Post added 07-07-2017 at 09:30 ---------- That is why you should not give them money. I used to buy the local big issue salesman lunch from the local sandwich shop.
  2. No they do not and the news today debunks this: EU and Japan reach free trade deal http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40520218 This may also help: http://trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/docs/2012/june/tradoc_149622.pdf although its a bit out of date given the above announcement with Japan.
  3. Wow, some mod void of humor removed the base64 comments. Anyway, I suspect Oil is just a means to an end for the Saudi's. Oil = $ = weapons = influence = spread of Wahhabism.
  4. Not at all. I have invented the situation where "If I" sexually assault a woman, but I have been on the receiving end of such an assault. You disregard me and make a huge assumption. Would you do the same if I were a woman? If you think this is a made up phenomenon, you are wrong and part of the problem. Men who were sexually assaulted by women share their stories - and how their friends reacted http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/health/men-who-were-sexually-assaulted-10271205
  5. So by deduction all woman are well behaved are they? If I grabbed a woman's breasts or crotch in a nightclub, it's sexual assault. If a woman grabs my crotch in the same situation, its banter or I should "Man-up" or take it as a compliment. Maybe it's more of a case of the behaviour of men is being scrutinised while whens is being ignored.
  6. I suspect the ploughmen of the early steam era thought the same.
  7. I suspect the only opposition to any safety measures are by a small minority of cyclists who feel any form of change is an intrusion. It was the same when motorbike helmets were introduced. Some opposed them but now they are the norm and who can say how many lives have been saved. Could a hi-vis jacket or mandatory lights have the same effect for cyclists? Personally if they saved one life, it's worth it.
  8. Im honestly not trying to. Im only trying to look at the bigger picture. To me its irrespective of the actions of the cyclist if he was on the pavement or not. What I'm concerned with is if he was wearing a hi-vis jacket or vest, would i have been more likely to have seen him. I suspect I would have even if he was in the wrong place and to me this is important. I would wish to avert any form of accident no matter who's fault it was. In reference to pedestrians and motorcyclists. Pedestrians are not required to walk on the road so they are not road users in the same sense as a cyclist. Motorcyclists are legally required to wear safety equipment designed to prevent injury of they are involved in an accident. The bikes also have a number of safety measures that are legally required and checked when they undergo an MOT. Cyclists use the roads but are not required to wear safety equipment and their bikes do not undergo checks for safety either. The comparison is neither fair and only points to the disparity between cyclists and other road users. My only concern is for the safety of cyclists who I fear are the most vulnerable of road users, especially in a city such as ours.
  9. There is no victim here as nothing happened. I had said from the start that I appeared to be in the wrong, but without a witness, it is difficult to say for certain where the cyclist came from. Seeing other cyclists riding on the pavement made me question whether this could have been the reason why I did not see the cyclist. Without being able to go back in time, it's a moot point without means to come to any certain conclusion. For this reason I'm interested in the wider implications of some cyclists taking their own safety for granted. In this case by not wearing a helmet and by wearing dark cloths on a dark morning. Any means that could save cyclists from injury is a good thing right? or is it more important to throw caution to the wind and risk injury as you said, mistakes happen.
  10. You are making a massive assumption here. I pulled out of a junction at low speed. I didn't almost kill the cyclist. I have also pointed out that the cyclist could have been in the wrong also, but you disregard this. Like I said before, cyclists like you who see no fault in any cyclist's actions are not worth listening to.
  11. Tell us something we dont know. It seems odd how successive governments have failed to stand up to the Saudi's. I remember only recently Saudi Arabia's contribution to help the refugees fleeing syria was not tents or blankets or food. It was funding for mosques (of their branch of Islam) in the host country. PS. WILFRED OWEN, nice
  12. Luckily no one was harmed and I doubt even you on your high horse cannot claim to have never made a mistake. ---------- Post added 05-07-2017 at 08:56 ---------- It was a combination of factors. It was dull due to the overcast nature of the weather, the background housing was also dark and this cyclist was also wearing dark clothing. I did not see the cyclist until he was past me. Now, I cant say for sure if he was on the road or had jumped off the pavement, that is also a possibility, so there is no certainty that I was in the wrong either. I have driven for many years and seen many stupid things done by cyclists. I watched at least 2 cyclists ride through through red lights on my journey home last night alone. Some car drivers do also break the rules of the road, but we are forced to adhere to many standards and checks that cyclists are not. If wearing a hi-vis jacket saves one life, is that not a good thing? To most I suspect its acceptable, to the minority, militant, cyclists who think that everyone else is at fault except them, this argument will never gain any traction and this is why their point of view isn't worth paying attention to.
  13. I know there are those who will oppose any change to how cyclists ride on the roads, but after todays near accident, which was my fault. I'm certain if the cyclist was wearing a high visibility jacket I would have seen him. I pulled out of a junction and did not see the guy until after he had passed in front of me. The low light and his dark clothing made him difficult to see It was my fault, but I suspect, if he was wearing something more visible I would have seen him. His dark grey top on a slightly light grey bike with out a helmet, made him very difficult to see in the low light at approx 7am today. Many cyclists do wear either bright clothing or high visibility jackets or vests, but should this be mandatory? I think so, going by personal experience.
  14. I suspect I had this happen to me in a similar circumstance. I was asked which hospital I wanted a minor Op carried out. I made my choice and away I went with my paperwork to wait for the appointment. 6 weeks later I receive a letter from my GP stating the hospital I chose has cancelled my request and has given no reason. If I wanted to go ahead with the Op I needed to rearrange an appointment with the GP to go through the process once again.
  15. To be fair, those protests of late have been only a handful of people.
  16. Yes it's almost as though they are deliberately trying to confuse the two marches so that people assume the Football Lads were part of the EDL march.
  17. I do find this extremely worrying that almost ALL mainstream media did not report this march.
  18. A lot of younger voters will also smell blood and encourage their compatriots to get out and vote if another election is coming. Expect to see an additional swing from Lib Dems to Labour at the next election as the troops rally to the stronger flags.
  19. All Doctors surgerys embargo appointments for pressing issues on the day. They will either make them available to patients when they call first thing, or via their online booking systems. Normally between 8-8:30am. Then if all appointments are taken, further more urgent time slots are also kept so that the Drs can call patients and either diagnose over the phone or call them into the surgery for further discussion. Being told to come back thursday would mean your pal didn't book early enough and they probably do not have an ailment that requires urgent attention. If they are unhappy with this they can always go to the drop in centre and wait for an appointment there.
  20. I have been to citizens advice myself and know they have on the spot appointments available. The OP is mistaken or has been told something they are portraying as their own experience.
  21. Oh my word, you could not be more wrong. Maybe you are trying to convince yourself of something but it won't wash with the rest of us. Labour are on the ascension while the Torys are teetering on the edge of decline once more. Its as if they do not learn from their mistakes.
  22. May's Torys = selfish ---------- Post added 27-06-2017 at 21:06 ---------- When everyone is poor, no one is poor
  23. Thats wrong, Citizens advice offer a walk in service in most of the 9 offices they have in Sheffield.
  24. Thats worked so well through-out history hasn't it when trying to counter an opposition political point of view. Call them stupid
  25. Why would you think the Socialist Worker would say anything less? The fact is, Corbyn received support from all classes.
