  1. You can certainly turn right from the Malin Bridge side at the Hillsborough tram gate. https://goo.gl/G2rU4t
  2. To the OP: Was the biker turning left? If so, even if you had decided to turn there would have been contingency. If not then I agree, to be filtering on the inside across a junction is dangerous. With regards to the cycle lane - if they have a dotted line they can be entered by other vehicles "if necessary" - the ones with solid lines should never be encroached. The lane in question has a broken line, so again, if turning left within the speed limit it could be deemed necessary for the motorcycle to use this space to get passed cars tailing back from the lights. Have a look here http://think.direct.gov.uk/motorcycles.html; "Motorcyclists might pass you on either side. Double-check for motorcyclists, whether you're turning left or right." All in all I cannot see fault in the motorcyclists manoeuvre (assuming they were turning left), though doing so at the speed limit does sound like it would have increased their own risk of exposure to an accident caused by another road user. Yes I am a biker. Yes I use that road. Yes I would have potentially made that manoeuvre if turning left (remember that the road at this point has only just stopped being a bus lane so you would have already have had to merge into traffic from your left, though most car drivers seem to not consider this at all), but without seeing the footage to assess the full picture (road position of you, the way you had been driving approaching the junction, weather conditions, traffic on the side road etc) I could not say.
  3. Don't throw your sloe gin berries away come Christmas - chuck them in a bottle of red wine and then add brandy to make sloe port - it is even nicer than sloe gin!!
  4. Hi, Wharf Aquatics are an amazing shop for fish but had CRS (Red bees) when I was there last - not sure about the others. They are well worth a visit if you have transport. I started out with my first CRS from a bloke selling on eBay from Doncaster which I collected, but I also have had some higher grade ones successfully delivered through the post. Sam
  5. ...but you best bet is probably this one ; Behind the City Hall
  6. I came past this morning and they were pulling the final part of the lower school down. About time - it has looked a sorry state for too long - but definitely the end of an era (I was there 1980-1985)
  7. This worked for us and has worked for a few others I have recommended it to since; Bait Station
  8. What I am stating that it shows a very different motivation from those issuing tickets for financial gain to those issuing warning notices to help prevent people receiving the impending tickets. Does it not strike you as odd that a bike can be parked in the same spot for 10 working days and receive no warning in an alleged amnesty notification period, yet gets a fine twice within an hour or so of parking up in the two days after the amnesty has expired? I do not find that a lame claim, not least when backed up by the exact same experience documented by BikerBoom.
  9. Hmmm. I too only found out about a two week period of alleged warning notices after I challenged a PCN. It is funny how they managed to give me two tickets in the first hour of the two days after the 'amnesty' (no I am not slow on the uptake, the first ticket was not on my bike when I returned to it and I only found out about it via a Notice To Owner letter a month or so later), yet did not manage to give me any notice in the two weeks proceeding this even though my bike was parked in the exact same spot (and as it had been regularly for a year before that). They cannot say that this is not financially motivated! Sam
  10. I use an app called 'Fix My Street'. I reported a large pot hole at the entrance to our estate last week. You take a photo with the app and it get a GPS fix and upload, they then send you an email link to complete the report on their website. It took me all of 2 minutes to do. I reported it around 9am Thursday morning and got an email back at 10.50am on Saturday to say that the issue had been fixed! Sure enough, I went out on Saturday lunchtime and the hole was filled!! Sam
  11. I didn't park on a 'Sheffield-stand' bicycle rack - these are of stainless steel construction and have a bar parallel to the ground. And, as stated in my post, it is only with hindsight that I know of that motorcycle provision.
  12. No, it is not clear. The link above is to a council provided motorcycle rack on the pavement in a public place.
  13. I think the difficulty is because of the lack of signs. Had the provided racks stated that they were bicycle racks then what you are saying would be a lot more clear/ fairer. If you look at the rack that you are saying is the only legal provision, behind the City Hall, there are two of the racks that appear opposite the Peace Gardens, a space, then there is a larger single structure, a space, then there is a small sign with a motorcycle parking symbol on it and immediately behind it a sign saying 'no parking at any time'. I, and many others it would seem, took the provision of facilities to mean the permission to park. I was not aware of the City Hall provision to know that motorcycle only provisions would be signed as such and cycle provisions would not have any signs. By parking my motorcycle behind the City Hall I am in contravention of a parking restriction but, I assume, exemption has been made by the provision of additional facilities - it was under this assumption that I parked in, what are only now being termed, bicycle racks previously. The other day I saw a motorcycle parked in the first double rack behind the City Hall that is the same as the Peace Garden racks (ie not the big one, so assumedly a bicycle rack?) would that have been ticketed? I have appealed to the ticket I was issued, pretty much on the above grounds, but have not heard anything back, or even had acknowledgement of my appeal - does anyone know how long it takes to get a response?
  14. Hi Planner1, I used the City Hall motorcycle rack today. The slope is much less than I thought so not an issue after all. The 'rack' is really good - the second bar allows the chain to be positioned off the ground which is recommended to prevent bolt cropping, though I think the highest bar is unnecessary and could be re-designed out to make these structures less obtrusive as a whole. I certainly think a smaller version (height wise) should be put outside the Panasonic shop opposite the Peace Gardens as the sheer demand the pavement parking has had there shows there is a need. The Crucible , if now deemed illegal for motorbikes under the new clampdown should also have one. Possibly the bottom of Fargate? If I had known of the City Hall one and the illegality of Leopold Square parking I would have happily used this for the last year so some publicity too! Sam
